Mamelodi Sundowns make u-turn on releasing Khama Billiat for medical assessment

Khama Billiat will not feature for the Warriors’ opening match against Liberia on June 11 after indications that Mamelodi Sundowns had made a u-turn on releasing him fearing that it will worsen his injury.

Sources at Sundowns that spoke to The Herald late last night said that the club had declined to release Billiat and allow the 26-year-old forward a chance to travel to Harare and be assessed by the Warriors medical crew. The sources said that the club needs Billiat for their remaining CAF Champions League assignments.

However, Warriors interim manager Wellington Mandate said he was optimistic Billiat would be in Harare today for assessment by the Warriors medical team. Knowledge Musona arrived on Saturday night. He also confirmed that Burnley defender Tendai Darikwa and other Engkland based players will not play against Liberia although Norman Mapeza and his technical team will consider them for future assignments.
