Hwange Power Station operating at 33%, three other power stations shut down due to coal shortages

The Zimbabwe Power Company has blamed coal shortages for the drop in electricity productions. Hwange Thermal Power Station is operating at one-third of its capacity while three other power stations, Munyati, Bulawayo and Harare, have been shut down.

ZESA Holdings spokesperson, Fullard Gwasira told The Source.

We have not been receiving enough coal to ensure steady supply of electricity. Our suppliers are incapacitated due to lack of foreign currency payments

Zimbabwe’s biggest coal miner Makomo Resources, which is now ZPC’s biggest coal supplier due to problems at Hwange Colliery Company is claiming that its production has also dropped after ZPC failed to service a $25 million debt.
