Footballer Oscar Machapa flees DRC conflict

Zimbabwe international footballer Oscar Machapa has returned home following the eruption of conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The fighting between the DRC’s armed forces and rebels calling themselves Kamuina Nsapu has already displaced at least 20 000 people.

Machapa plays for DRC side AS Vita and has said that he will stay in Zimbabwe while monitoring the developments in the DRC.  SWpeaking to SportsZone, Machapa said:

I am back home because it’s not safe in the DR Congo right now,
I am not available for that one, I am back home whilst monitoring the situation back in DRC
