Kasukuwere accused of not following Zanu-PF procedure after disqualifying Mnangagwa's relative

Zanu-PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has been accused of not following the party’s communication channels and procedure after he disqualified Pearson Mbalekwa as the party’s candidate for the Chiwundura by-elections scheduled for 15 July.

Zanu-PF deputy national commissar Omega Hungwe who oversaw the primary elections where Mbalekwa emerged victorious, said that Kasukuwere never communicated with her but chose to text a message to a junior officer in the Commissariat Department who then relayed the message to her. Hungwe said that Mbalekwa’s application was approved by the Provincial Elections Directorate which submitted his name to the National Elections Directorate which did not contest his candidature.

The party’s spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said:

There are laid down rules that should be followed when disqualifying a candidate. You cannot make an independent decision. You go by the rules.
