Former parks boss in court over missing rhino horns worth $3 million

Former Director-General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Mr. Edson Chidziya has appeared in court over 56 rhino horns worth $3 million which vanished from the stores of the wildlife authority in Harare. Chizeya appeared in court yesterday facing charges of criminal abuse of office and is being represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku. Three other Zimparks employees also appeared in court facing charges of theft of trust property. All four accused were granted $200 bail by Harare Magistrate Barbara Chimbodza.

The complainant, Zimbabwe Parks, and Wildlife Management Authority, allege that Chidziya exhibited a high level of negligence in the execution of his duties relevant to the matter at hand in that and that he failed to put in place security and control measures to prevent pilferage of rhino horns.
