Harare City Council terminates WellCash Debt Collectors contract following pressure from lobby groups

Harare City Council has terminated its contract with WellCash Debt Collectors after the Community Water Alliance gave the debt collector a three day ultimatum to vacate council district offices.

According to full council meeting minutes seen by Daily News, council on Thursday resolved to terminate the contract with WellCash. The contract was valid from November 15, 2016 to November 15, 2017. Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni confirmed the termination and said that it was necessitated by the prevailing economic conditions which have resulted in residents defaulting on payments. He said that they are now looking into other strategies of recovering debts.
