The government is planning to set up a Motor Vehicle Accident Fund. The proposed fund will be used to pay for ambulance and hospital services for the victims of road accidents. This will ensure that all victims are treated even if they do not have medical aid insurance.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Mr Munesushe Munodawafa said the government is proposing to get the funding through charging more on fuel. This will ensure that every motorist contributes towards the fund.
However, the government will consult stakeholders in the transport sector before enacting the legislation to setup up the fund.
