Commander of Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Constantino Chiwenga has revealed that he wanted to be a Roman Catholic Priest but dropped to join the liberation struggle. He said this while addressing mourners during the funeral wake of Presidential spokesperson, George Charamba’s wife, Idaishe Olivia who passed on at West-End hospital over the weekend.
Said Chiwenga:
I wanted to be a Roman Catholic priest together with (Regis) Chikowore (Principal Director in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services). Chikowore finished his course but I did not. I am a devoted Christian. So, l called Chikowore when l realised, Mrs Charamba was slowly losing her battle. I reminded her parents that dust (will return) to dust. We prayed, Charamba was there and I gave them my rosary and l hope the Lord has put her in a peaceful resting place. One way or the other, we will all meet our fate. No matter your standing in society, we should sacrifice at least a day per week to worship the Lord. Some of us left full-time ministry because of the liberation war.
