Angry youths from Matabeleland told the Parliamentary portfolio committee on Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, that they were deliberately sidelined from accessing loans under the Youth Fund. Most of the youths who attended the meeting professed ignorance of the government Kurera/Ukondla Fund. The $10 million empowerment fund was launched by the government in 2010 when Saviour Kasukuwere was the Indigenisation minister. The Portfolio committee headed by Justice Mayor Wadyejena is looking into how the fund was distributed.
Said one youth,
We were not even aware of the fund, they allocated the loans to themselves. Many of us here will testify to that. We only heard that some people had benefitted from the youth fund and everything was done only for those who are closer to some politicians
