Mzembi now sole SADC and African Union candidate for UNTWO job after Seychelles withdraws candidate

Zimbabwe’s Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Dr Walter Mzembi is now the sole SADC and African Union (AU) candidate for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Secretary General post after Seychelles has withdrew its candidate Alien St Ange.

The withdrawal comes after a meeting on Monday where the Seychelles cabinet considered a formal request by SADC and the AU for them to withdraw their candidate ahead of the elections scheduled for Madrid, Spain, on Friday 12 May. Mzembi will battle for the post with the other five remaining candidates.
