Suicide cases on the rise in Zimbabwe, economic challenges and infidelity blamed
The Zimbabwe Republic Police have blamed economic challenges and marital problems for the increase in suicide cases in Zimbabwe. The police have also revealed that more men are killing themselves compared to women. Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba revealed that at least 489 men committed suicide in 2016 compared to 348 in 2015. On the other hand, 147 women committed suicide in 2016 compared to 126 in 2015.
According to Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, the suicide cases in men were linked to stress due to economic challenges while for women suicide was linked to stress from marital problems. Said Charamba:
