Unlincenced policeman kills three family members after losing control of his car

Russell Chaipa, a ZRP officer, and unlicenced driver lost control of his car and ploughed into Chipinge family who were coming from church. Three of the family members died while one was criticallly injured in the accident and is admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare. One died on the spot while, while two others died upon admission at Chipinge District Hospital.

People at the scene accused Chaipa of causing the accident due to reckless driving and wanted to mete out mob justice. Chaipa had to take refuge in a Honda Fit vehicle and was later rescued by his colleagues.

The three family members were buried at Mashiri Village in Chief Mutema’s area on Tuesday. Chaipa was charged with driving without a licence and culpable homicide and was remanded to the 15th of May for trial.
