Police officer sleeps outside kombi driver’s house waiting for bribe

Constable Samuel Samu (39) who is based at Mbare Police Station, impounded a commuter omnibus (kombi) before driving it to Irene Farm in Marondera where he spent the night outside Admire Nota’s (26) house waiting to receive $150 as bribe.

Police sources in Marondera confirmed to NewZimbabwe.com that Samu was arrested for soliciting a bribe from Nota who was involved in an accident at Mbudzi Roundabout along the Harare-Masvingo Highway when the knocked down a pedestrian. Samu and three other police officers arrived at the scene of the accident and demanded to see Nota’s licence.

Nota said he had left the licence at Irene Farm in Marondera which prompted the Samu to suggest that they should proceed to the farm to determine whether Nota had a valid licence. On their way to the farm Samu allegedly told Nota that he could cover up the accident if he paid $150 and Nota agreed. Nota managed to raise $50 and informed Samu to come and collect the rest the following day but Samu decided to sleep at the farm instead. He was arrested after Nota reported him to the police.
