Bulawayo City Council allocates $600 000 for luxury vehicles as workers go unpaid

Bulawayo’s Progressive Residents’ Association is planning to demonstrate against the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) for its financial priorites. This comes after the BCC allocated $599 000 for luxury vehicles for its executives. The city also spent $120 000 on a MeMercedes-Benz LE 250 class for mayor, Martin Moyo. What , is worrying for residents is that service delivery is poor and the council also owes workers $8,4 million in outstanding salaries and allowances.

Bulawayo’s Progressive Residents’ Association co-ordinator, Rodrick Fayayo said:

We don’t understand the rationale behind this latest move. We don’t know why they are splashing hundreds of thousands of dollars on vehicles when we have a service delivery gap in Bulawayo.

Particularly shocking is that council executives had their vehicle loan balances reduced or cut off altogether after the officials used their outstanding leave days to pay off the balances,
