On Tuesday, police reportedly questioned Zanu PF Harare provincial political commissar, Shadreck Mashayamombe, over his alleged role in the intra-party clashes that occurred last week.
The violence was between rival Zanu PF youth groups with one supporting Mashayamombe and the other supporting the party’s provincial administration secretary, George Mashavave. However, Mashayamombe denied the reports, saying that he was not questioned or arrested. Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi also said he was not aware that Mashayamombe was questioned.
Zanu-PF sources who spoke to NewsDay said Mashayamombe was questioned while attending Independence celebrations at the National Sports Stadium. They further state that he was told to report at Harare Central Police Station’s Law and Order Section before the end of this week.
