Professor Jonathan Moyo calls out Herald's lies about $500 million Command Agriculture
Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development has hit back at the Herald after the newspaper claimed to have trashed his claims. In an article titled “Govt clears the air on Command expenses •Only $190m, not $500m used: Made •Prof Moyo’s claims trashed” the newspaper claimed that only $190 million had been used for command agriculture and accused Moyo of making up the $500 million figure.
However, Moyo revealed that he is not the one who came up with the $500 million figure. Instead, he showed that it had originated from Zimpapers with the Herald and the Sunday Mail and quoted articles from the two that used the figure of $500 million.

The registration of farmers willing to participate in the $500 million command agriculture scheme has begun, with Government yesterday inviting those interested to register with Agritex officers in their respective areas.
In an article on the 17th of December 2016, the Herald wrote
Cde Mnangagwa is overseeing implementation of the US$500 million scheme that seeks to produce two million tonnes of maize on about 400 000 hectares of land this summer cropping season.
In an article on the 10th of March 2017, the Herald wrote
Government together with the private sector has harnessed about $500 million to finance Command Agriculture, which targets to produce about two million tonnes of maize from 400 000 hectares this season.
