Rejoice Dube (31) of Madubesi suburb in Plumtree, punched Constable Tsungai Mabingo (28) who is based at Plumtree Police Station when he tried to arrest her for malicious damage to property after she smashed Mr Java Marovedze’s windscreen during a misunderstanding with her husband.
Dube pleaded guilty to the property damage charge when she appeared before Plumtree Magistrate Mr Joshua Manwere and was remanded in custody to today for continuation of trial. Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said that on March 3 at around 11PM Dube smashed Marovedze’s windscreen during a fight with her husband who had called Marovedze to come and pick him up from his house. Marovedze reported the matter to the police and on 3AM the following day, Constable Mabingo and Jerifanos Museva arrested Dube.
Sibanda alleged that Dube punched Mabingo once on the chest and on the eye in a bid to avoid arrest. Mabingo suffered a swollen eye as a result of the assault. In her defense Dube said she did not smash the windscreen on purpose but fell on it when she was fighting with her husband. She said that she did not recall punching a police officer as she was possessed by a spirit at the time.
