Four supply dams for Bulawayo now 100 percent, average capacity now 90 percent

As of today (the 21st of February 2017), four dams which supply the city of Bulawayo are now 100 percent full and spilling.

The four which are 100 percent full are

  • Upper Ncema
  • Lower Ncema
  • Mtshabezi
  • Insiza Mayfair

It’s hard to imagine that on 24 November 2016 the Bulawayo City Council and journalists organised an intercession prayer at Umzingwane Dam to ask God to bring an end to the crippling water shortages. On that very same day, Upper Ncema was in a decommissioned state with a level of only 1.59 percent. Now, Upper Ncema is spilling, a sight which was last seen in 1994.  Part of the inflows can be credited to the tropical storm “ex-Dineo.”

Last year the City of Bulawayo had to resort to heavy rationing to make the water last, something residents are hopeful can be avoided this year.
