Bulawayo City Council's rebate scheme allows senior citizens to pay 50% of their bills

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is offering a rebate scheme which allows senior citizens to pay 50% of their bills. The scheme allows people aged 70 years and above who cannot ordinarily pay their rates.

Responding to The Chronicle’s emailed questions, BCC senior public relations executive, Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said:

On May 6, 2009, council passed a resolution that senior citizens aged 70 and above would be eligible for a 50% rate rebate. To date 4 923 senior citizens have benefited from the rate rebate scheme.

She said the rebate scheme was benefiting people from suburbs such as Mzilikazi, Njube, Iminyela, Mabutweni, Old Pumula, Queens Park, Sauerstown, Richmond and North End. She also said that they paid fees for 224 disadvantaged children in 2016.
