Corruption, lack of political will and mismanagement will perpetuate Health decay in Zimbabwe: Zinasu statement on #21DaysofActivism

As we join the citizens in the 2nd day under the #21DaysOfActivism “we the students* pursuant to our generational responsibility to be the voice of the voiceless we today call the government to deal with the health crisis in Zimbabwe.

While the ruling party prepares for yet another Robert Mugabe jamboree in the southern part of Matabeleland it is critically critical that we raise our voice to the government of our day.

The country’s heath sector has collapsed.  On top of lack of medication, equipment there’s no water in hospitals.

Shocking revelations were presented before us by the fourth state that, the two largest hospitals Harare Central and Parirenyatwa, have many of their key medical facilities operating largely without running water for most of the time.

Harare Central Hospital, which receives referrals from across the country, remains open despite the water shortage, in violation of several international public health standards, international conventions that Zimbabwe has ratified.

We, therefore, call the government to respect the constitution and fulfil its obligation to guarantee the right to health as this denial has also lead to a threat to the citizens fundamental right to life.

It is a fact that students have served this country since its birth and more effectively after the opening of the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences (CHS) but this is proving to be a mammoth task as age sector is hit by neglect, mismanagement and corruption.

The alarming level of government neglect boggles the mind, with a whole minister of health appealing to prophets to fund a clear government responsibility proving beyond any doubt that this country is in a mess.

Resources to purchase chemicals are being looted by carefree and otherwise indifferent government officials who have proved to be clueless about running a country.

The tripartite political problem is bringing the health sector to its knees!

It is this milieu in the health sector that the Zimbabwe National Students Union join hands with citizens in calling this regime to order.
