Sergeant Amos Mandiwanzira, (42) who is stationed at a Gutu police camp assaulted a junior officer while escaping after being caught in bed with Constable Brian Chikono’s wife Madeline Makonese.
He however pleaded not guilty to assault when he appeared before Gutu magistrate Bishard Chineka who remanded out of custody to February 3 for continuation of trial. Chikono was advised that the sergeant was having an affair with his wife and decided to return home unexpected and took along a colleague, Constable Liberty Kashiri, as a witness.
The court heard that Chikono arrived at his homestead at around 9pm and broke in, leaving Kashiri guarding the main entrance. Upon entering the house, Chikono found his wife and Mandiwanzira making love on the couple’s matrimonial bed. Seeing that he had been caught, Mandiwanzira tried to escape but could not as Kashiri who was gaurding the main entrance. Mandiwanzira then assaulted Kashiri with clinched fists and struck him several times with a wooden log all over his body before escaping. Kashiri filed a report at Mpandawana Police Station leading to the arrest of Mandiwanzira.
