Lightning strikes during school assembly, 2 die and over 30 injured
Two pupils died and over 30 others were injured when lightning struck at Chitsara Secondary School during assembly. The school is in Marondera. Lightning struck at around 4 pm and two pupils one in form 2 and the other in form 4 were pronounced dead on arrival at Wenimbe Clinic. Some pupils who sustained serious burns were taken to Marondera Provincial hospital.
The injured were visited by Minister of Defence Dr. Sydney Sekeramayi, Marondera East legislator Cde Jeremiah Chiwetu, Marondera Central legislator Cde Lawrence Katsiru and Marondera Rural District Chairperson Cde Patrick Chidakwa.
