"Prisons operating at zero budget from the treasury"

Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Service (ZPCS) has revealed that it is operating with inadequate budgetary funding from treasury.  This has left the institution incapacitated to fulfill its obligations to prisoners as required by the law.

Addressing parliamentarians last week, Elizabeth Banda, deputy officer commanding Harare Metropolitan province said:

We are operating at zero budget from the treasury.

What we have been doing to alleviate the problem is encouraging them to do projects that can help to feed the children.
