Kariba residents live in fear as lions kill dogs

Kariba residents are living in fear of being attacked by lions after the beasts have killed seven dogs so far.

Yemurai Matashu who witnessed the latest incident where a dog was killed at the Nyamhunga turn-off from the Kariba-Makuti Road, said he first saw the dog barking facing towards an adjacent bush before a lion dragged the dog and disappeared into the dark. The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority rangers were called and they fired several shots to scare the cats but soon after they left, some people came reporting that they had spotted two lions surrounding what looked like a dog along the Kariba-Makuti Road.

Apostolic sect members who congregate in open spaces in the bush have had to revise their programmes. The Herald could not get a comment from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
