Government backtracks on fast-tracking Bond notes bill

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa  has made a u-turn on his plans to fast-track the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Amendment Bill which will legalise the issuing of bond notes.  Chinamasa had requested the House of Assembly to fast track the Bill on Wednesday, but he seems to have reconsidered  and the bill will now go through the normal parliamentary and public consultation processes.

Kuwadzana MP Nelson Chamisa commended the latest move by Chinamasa saying:

I am heartened by the stance taken by the minister as it is in line with the dictates of our constitution section 141. There are things that we can’t suspend. It’s a must.

We cannot suspend the constitution.

I am glad the minister has deemed it fit that the people of Zimbabwe are consulted in this important process. It’s a very important bill.

He has surprised by me by this gesture. This has nothing to do with the party but our duty in law making.
