Half of 2015 Pregnancies were unplanned despite high uptake of contraception: ZNFPC
The Zimbabwe Nation Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) has revealed that statistics indicate that 40% of the pregnancies which occurred in 2015 were unplanned. This is counter-intuitive considering the high uptake of contraceptives in Zimbabwe as well as the literacy rates and the available resources.
ZNFPC Manicaland Provincial Manager, Dyson Masvingise told journalists on Tuesday that:
We have a very high unmet need for sexual reproductive health for married women which is standing at 13%, by this we mean women sexually active and can give birth but are not currently using any form of contraception.
FeedbackFor the past five years it has been hovering between 15%-17% among married women and among unmarried youths. In fact 40% of pregnancies conceived last year were unintended, that is almost half.
