Let's build Zimbabwe instead of branding it for selling, says Fadzayi Mahere

Activist lawyer, Fadzayi Mahere has criticised the argument put forward by some Zimbabweans that the country’s brand is hard to sell to investors. In a post on Facebook, Mahere said making Zimbabwe’s brand sellable is a wrong goal to pursue. She suggested that Zimbabweans should, instead ‘selling Zimbabwe’, rather focus on building it for its people and future generations:

Before we seek to market this country to others (who will mostly want to exploit it for self-gain), we must first make it palatable to ourselves – the roads, the environment, the economy, the water, the healthcare system, the business environment, the technology, the education, the energy, the stability, the food security, the property rights, protection of the law – the entire spectrum. It’s a matter of regret that we are more concerned with the fact that we cannot answer the questions posed by investors than the fact that we neglect to pose the same questions to ourselves – and to devise lasting solutions.
