Council fails to collect rubbish for two weeks, blames fuel shortage

Harare City Council (HCC) has been failing to collect refuse for up to two weeks in some areas, and have blamed this  failure on a fuel shortage.  HCC is blaming its fuel suppliers who reportedly insisting  on hard cash up front and are refusing to accept electronic money.

Council Spokesperson Mike Chideme said:

Firstly, let me apologise on behalf of council for the erratic garbage collection. Secondly, I point to the causes – namely the perennial issue of a very old fleet that is constantly breaking down, and a shortage of fuel as our suppliers demand payment up front and in cash.
