The Sunday Mail reported that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that the Zimbabwean Government is set to consult its citizens on whether the country should retain the death penalty or completely abolish it in fulfillment of recommendations from other United Nations Member-States. Zimbabwe has 90 inmates on death row.
Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo took to social networking site, Twitter and criticised Mnangagwa’s efforts saying,
It's phoney to call for the abolishment of an unenforced death penalty when you're brazenly assaulting liberty. No life without liberty!
