In an unfortunate incident a 59 year old Silobela woman died fighting a veld fire in an effort to protect her homestead which was in the path of the fire.
Midlands Police Spokesman Joel Goko said to The Chronicle:
I can confirm that we are investigating a sudden death case whereby Grace Matembedza of Desvirgis Farm, Silobela died on Saturday when she was trying to put out a veld fire which was spreading towards her homestead
