Local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere has reportedly ordered councillors and the town clerk in Marondera to withdraw a $1 million contract awarded to former top Zanu PF official Ray Kaukonde. A company linked to Kaukonde, who was fired from the ruling party, was recently awarded a tender by the council to develop 300 residential stands in Lendy Park.
According to a Councillor interviewed by NewZimbabwe.com,
Last week, the councillors and the town clerk were summoned to Harare by Kasukuwere who, among other things, ordered us to reverse our decision of awarding the tender to Kaukonde. And on Thursday we were shocked to receive communication that a company called Tarcon Africa would now takeover and develop the land. The decision was made without consulting councilors.
