US removes Zimbabwean companies, former and dead Zanu PF members off sanctions list

The United States has removed some Zimbabwean companies off the Special Designated Nationals list. The information is on the website of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Department of Treasury of the United States. Companies that have been removed from the list include Zimbabwe’s top fertilizer manufacturing firm ZFC and its parent company Chemplex Group, ZB Financial Holdings limited and Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe.

Some individuals have also been removed from the list and the list consists mostly of former and dead Zanu PF members. The list includes the late Sabina Mugabe, retired Zanu PF politburo member Cephas Msipa, the late Charles Utete, Ever Chombo who was once married to Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo and the only current Zanu PF member Aeneas Chigwedere among others.

Speaking to The Herald Government yesterday said it was yet to be formally informed about the latest development by the US administration. Foreign Affairs Secretary Ambassador Joey Bimha said,

We will be ready to respond as soon as we are told formally. We cannot comment on something circulating in social media which may turn out not be correct.
