The new Cybercrime and Cybersecurity Bill which is set to be tabled before Parliament soon has raised concerns in some sections who are saying that it proposes harsh sentences for vaguely defined offences. The bill also seeks to arrest, extradite and prosecute Zimbabweans who are based in foreign lands, for causing harm back in Zimbabwe, by “abusing” social media or any other computer based system. The bill is being championed by Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Supa Mandiwanzira.
