South African authorities said that a woman identified as a Zimbabwean who was shot dead after leaving the court and heading to the taxi rank was not a witness but an accused person who was facing a murder charge.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/woman-shot-outside-cape-town-court-was-zimbabwean-witness-to-murder/">ZimLive</a>, a local publication had reported that the woman, named Christine Yolanda Gumira who was 30 years old and a mother-of-one, was a witness in the trial of a man who had killed her friend.
But on Monday, 05 June, Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Nicolette Bell, told reporters that Gumira was not a witness but an accused person in a murder case.
Reports indicate that Gumira was charged with murder and was on the verge of turning State witness when she was gunned down. <a href="https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/breaking-wynberg-christine-gumera-murder-accused-three-in-court-witness-5-june/">The South African</a> quoted Bell as saying:

At the time of her death, she was not a witness but an accused person who appeared in a murder matter.
The NPA regards the safety of all witnesses, its staff, court personnel, and all persons who appear in a court of paramount importance.
To this end, a voluntary witness protection service is available to witnesses.

Gumira was shot dead on Thursday, 25 May after leaving the court and heading to the taxi rank.
The incident was captured on CCTV, footage that went viral on social media last week.
It is alleged that two of the accused allegedly sat in on Gumira’s case on the day of the shooting.
The suspects allegedly called the third accused and told him what Gumira looked like.
The shooter fired two shots. One fatally injured Gumira and another hit a car passing by.

Zimbabwean Woman Shot Outside Cape Town Court Also Faced A Murder Charge

A 53-year-old Guruve man was struck and killed by a stray brick that was thrown during a fight between two brothers that he was watching.
Police said Tongai Magocha was watching a fistfight between Edward Chiyanike and his elder brother Encos Chiyanike at Tenanog Farm Shops on Monday when tragedy struck. Police said:

Police in Guruve have arrested Edward Chiyanike (33) in connection with a case of murder in which the victim, Tongai Magocha (53) died on 23/05/23 after being struck with a brick on the head on 22/05/23 at Tenanog Farm Shops.
The suspect was fighting with his elder brother, Encos Chiyanike (40) when an onlooker, Nyasha Mapfumo (25) refrained the duo from fighting.
This did not go well with the suspect who picked the brick and threw it towards Nyasha Mapfumo, who dodged the brick resulting in it hitting the victim.

Last month, an 18-year-old woman who was fighting with her two boyfriends <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/04/21/teenager-accidentally-kills-bystander-during-fight-with-two-boyfriends/">was arrested for murder after she missed one of her lovers and accidentally struck a bystander</a>.
Police said Leanda Mupfumira picked up a half brick intending to throw it at one of her two boyfriends she was fighting with.
The brick hit a bystander, Tawanda Nigel Ziumbe (23), resulting in him falling into a drain and becoming unconscious.
Ziumbe was rushed to the hospital while unconscious, where he died.

Stray Brick Kills Man (53) Watching Fistfight Between Two Brothers

Police in Manicaland Province have urged members of the public to settle their disputes amicably by engaging in peaceful dialogue.
The call came after a 28-year-old man who suspected that his 52-year-old wife was having an affair with a villager allegedly stoned the rival suitor to death.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, confirmed the incident which happened in Makamba Village under Chief Chikore’s area.
He said Phillip Mufapaire of Mayo, Makoni, first punched Tichaona Karongwe before attacking him with a brick.
Karongwe sustained serious injuries and well-wishers rushed him to Nhowe Mission Hospital in the neighbouring Mashonaland East Province where he was pronounced dead. Said Insp Muzondo:

On May 6, Mufapaire from Makamba Village had an altercation with Karongwe, whom he accused of dating his wife, Agnes Fondishi.
They started fighting and the incensed Mufapaire overpowered Karongwe. Fondishi heard some screams and went out to investigate.
She saw Mufapaire attacking Karongwe who was lying down. Fondishi alerted neighbours and they rushed to the scene.
The public effected a citizen’s arrest on Mufapaire, while others rushed Karongwe to Nhowe Mission Hospital.
He, however, died before reaching Nhowe Mission Hospital.
A report was made to the police. Upon interrogation, Mufapaire revealed his suspicions of an affair between Karongwe and his wife.

Man (28) Kills Villager Over Love Affair With His Wife (52)

A 58-year-old man from Goromonzi fatally struck his daughter-in-law with an axe on the head before committing suicide by consuming a poisonous substance.
ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Farai Rupondo of Njerere Village, Juru committed the heinous crime before taking his own life on Saturday, 13 May. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of murder in which Farai Rupondo (58) killed his daughter-in-law Maybe Boboneya (20) before committing suicide by consuming poison on 13th May 2023 at Njerere Village, Juru.
Farai Rupondo, who was armed with bottles, petrol and an axe, lit a thatched bedroom hut in which his son Shepherd Njerere (34), Maybe Boboneya and an infant (2) were sleeping in.
Shepherd Njerere was struck with a bottle on the face after managing to escape from the bedroom through the window.
The infant was struck with an axe several times on the neck, while Maybe Boboneya was struck with an axe on the head and left leg.
Maybe Boboneya died on the spot while the infant was taken to Shamva Hospital for treatment.
The motive behind this gruesome murder case is not yet known.

Murder cases in Zimbabwe have been on the rise in recent years with the senselessness of some of the crimes raising questions about the mental state of the perpetrators.
Below are some general signs that may indicate a person is experiencing mental health problems:

Juru Man (58) Murders Daughter-in-law

An 18-year-old woman who was fighting with her two boyfriends was arrested for murder after she missed one of her lovers and accidentally struck a bystander.
The bystander fell into a drain and was rushed to the hospital while unconscious, where he died.
Police confirmed the incident which occurred at a service station in Kuwadzana 2 on Thursday. Police said:

In Zimbabwe, unintentional or accidental killing may be classified as culpable homicide.
Culpable homicide refers to the killing of another person due to negligence, recklessness, or carelessness.
Those convicted of the crime could face imprisonment or other penalties, depending on the severity of the offence and other factors involved in the case.

Teenager Accidentally Kills Bystander During Fight With Two Boyfriends

Police in Murehwa are looking for a man who fatally assaulted his employer before fleeing.
The suspect, Antony Chipanda, later claimed that his 81-year-old employer had tried to sodomise him.
Police confirmed the gruesome killing on their official Twitter. Police said:

Police in Murehwa are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Antony Chipanda who is being sought in connection with a case of murder in which he allegedly attacked to death his employer, Murambiwa Makuwe (81), with a hoe and log.
The suspect allegedly confessed to the victim’s daughter that he killed her father because he allegedly tried to sodomise him.
Anyone with information to report at any nearest police station.

In another murder case, Police in Mutorashanga arrested Lameck Tarashira (27) for allegedly killing his wife in cold blood.
Tarashira fatally assaulted his wife, Fungai Shereni (35), with a log on Independence Day at Maplanka Farm, after accusing her of cheating with her ex-husband.

Murehwa Man Kills Employer (81), Accuses Him Of Attempted Sodomy

A Harare man was shot three times in the head by assailants while sitting in his car with his girlfriend who was then held hostage and raped.
The couple was sitting in a car along Lomagundi Road when they were attacked.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/heartless-thugs-man-shot-three-times-in-the-head-girlfriend-held-hostage-raped/">H-Metro</a> reported that one of the suspects, identified as Tapiwa Mbirimi also has pending armed robbery and attempted murder charges.
Mbirimi appeared before magistrate, Stanford Mambanje, on Wednesday facing fresh murder, robbery, and rape charges.
He was remanded in custody to 15 May, pending the finalisation of investigations.
Prosecuting, Lancelot Mutsokoti said that on 19 November 2022, Mbirimi, together with his accomplice only known as Archford, confronted the now deceased Tendai Kandendu.
Kandendu was in the company of his girlfriend and they were sitting in their parked vehicle along Lomagundi Road in Harare.
Mbirimi was allegedly armed with a pistol while his accomplice had a knife.
The duo attacked the couple, demanding money but Kandendu fought back and reached for his gun, which was in the car.
Mbirimi and Archford wrestled Kandendu and took his gun and shot him three times in the head, killing him instantly.
The duo allegedly took Kandendu’s girlfriend hostage and stole the couple’s phones and US$300.
Mbirimi dragged the girl to a nearby bush and raped her before telling him to seek assistance from a nearby house.
He then melted into the darkness.

Man Shot 3 Times In The Head, Girlfriend Raped

A 34-year-old man from Nkulumane suburb in Bulawayo allegedly killed his landlord for evicting him from his house.
The landlord, Mgcini Sibanda (44), was found dead on a toilet seat on 19 March after he was assaulted by his tenant the previous day.
ZRP spokesperson in Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube said Mnkandla fled after committing the alleged offence. He said:

On 18 march 2023 at around 11 PM, the now deceased Mgcini Sibanda a male adult aged 44 years had a misunderstanding with the accused person over an issue of why he was still staying in his house while he had given him notice in January 2023.
The accused person assaulted Mgcini Sibanda with an unknown object and he sustained injuries but did not report the matter to the police nor did he seek medical help.
The accused person ran away soon after committing the offence. The deceased was found the following day by a neighbour dead whilst sitting on the toilet seat. A police report was then made.
He had two cuts on the forehead consistent to have been caused by a sharp object, bruises on both knees and blood stains on the left arm.

He urged members of the public to resolve their disputes amicably instead of taking the law into their own hands.

Tenant Kills Landlord Over Eviction Notice

A 40-year-old man from Sakubva in Mutare died after he fell off from the fourth floor of Matida Flats while wrestling with his lover’s estranged husband.
Tawanda Chirenje (25) allegedly caught the now-deceased Gift Saungweme in a compromising position with his wife, Phillipa Dariyani (25).
Saungweme and Dariyani were at a friend’s apartment.
ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, said police have launched a manhunt for Chirenje. He said:

Chirenje had caught Dariyani drinking beer with Saungweme in a friend’s apartment. He assaulted her with the flat side of a machete, booted feet, and fists and proceeded to assault Saungweme.
They wrestled towards an open window and as they wrestled, Saungweme fell off the window from the fourth floor. He sustained head injuries and died on Monday morning.
We are treating the matter as a murder incident as the circumstances are all pointing that way.
As the police, we urge people not to take the law into their own hands and not to use violence when such matters arise.

Dariyami’s friend, Shallon Maisera, in whose apartment the two lovebirds were caught red-handed, told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/cheat-falls-from-4th-floor-window/">The Manica Post</a> that she had been drinking with Dariyami and Saungweme at the bar that night. She said:
<blockquote>
I offered them my apartment because her children were sleeping in her apartment, which is on the third floor.
The three of us had been drinking in my apartment when Saungweme sent me to buy more beer and it was already past midnight.
When I came back, I was shocked to find Chirenje inside my apartment with the lovebirds.
Dariyani was crying and begging Chirenje to forgive her. I knocked and Chirenje opened the door for me.
He told me that he had caught the two in bed and that he wanted to kill them. I tried to stop him but he pushed and locked me outside.
Shortly afterward, he came out and told me that Saungweme had jumped off the window. He then walked away after that.

Maisera said Dariyami was assaulted all over her body with the machete.
She said when they rushed downstairs, Saungweme who was still alive but badly injured asked for some water. Said Maisera:

I asked him if he had been pushed off the window or if he had jumped but he kept saying ‘pakaipa’ so we rushed him to the hospital where he died later on.

Man Falls From 4th Floor Fighting Off Lover's Husband

Police have expressed concern over killings emanating from petty issues at beer outlets, among family members and at workstations.
In a statement this Tuesday, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged members of the public to find peaceful ways of resolving differences or disputes without resorting to violence. Reads the statement:

<h2>CONCERN OVER MURDER CASES ACROSS THE COUNTRY</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with the continued loss of lives due to petty disputes, especially at beer outlets and other places where the public has access. This includes the family level and workstations.
On 23rd February 2023, Police in Zvishavane arrested Obert Vengesa Nyoni in connection with a case of murder in which Benny Mukuta died on 21st February 2023 after being assaulted with fists and booted feet following an argument during a beer-drinking spree at a bottle store at Vengesa Business Centre, Masunda.
The suspect and his friends had taken the victim’s beer without his consent. The other suspect Simbarashe Nyevhe was arrested on 24th February 2023.
Similarly, Police in Kadoma arrested a mine owner, Simbayi Zhakata (67) in connection with a case of murder where Steven Matondo (21) was shot dead with a Mossberg rifle on 24th February 2023 at Zurich 112 Mine, Arda Doreens Farm, Battlefields.
The victim and his friends had allegedly made noise by banging on the doors of several houses at the compound and this did not go well with the suspect.
In another case, police in Mazowe are investigating a murder case where Webster Ndlovu died after being stabbed indiscriminately all over the body by the suspect, only identified as Tatenda alias Random, following an argument over an undisclosed issue on 24th February 2023 at White City Mine, Chigumira Farm.
On 24th February 2023, Police in Harare arrested Peter Sani (39) in connection with a case of murder in which Ernest Kavhiya (47) succumbed to injuries sustained during a fist fight after an argument during a beer drinking binge on 28th January 2023 at a bar at Glenview 1 Shopping Centre.
In another case, on 25th February 2023, Police in Harare arrested Obey Francis Tiyago (33) in connection with a case of murder in which Munyaradzi Kambudzi (22) died on 25th February 2023 whilst admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after being struck with a snooker stick on 21st February 2023 during a beer drinking spree at a night club in Hatcliffe.
ZRP Dzivarasekwa recorded a murder case where Moses Kalungu (49) died upon admission at a local hospital after allegedly being assaulted by the suspect only identified as Chamu.
The victim was found with head injuries while lying along Gora Street, Dzivarasekwa 3.
Meanwhile, Police in Mt Darwin arrested Edson Chandoza (39) in connection with cases of murder and attempted murder which occurred on 26th February 2023 at Tsayi Village, Dotito.
The suspect and his brother Aleck Chandoza (40), who is at large, allegedly attacked their mother, Midrone Manuwere (84) and sister, Tawanda Chandoza (36) with a wooden log after accusing their mother of witchcraft.
Midrone Manuwere (84) succumbed to the injuries sustained during the attack.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that the public must exercise self-restraint when faced with disputes or disagreements with friends, relatives, or any member of society.
Communities are implored to find peaceful ways of resolving differences or disputes without resorting to violence.

Police Express Concern Over Murder Cases Across The Country

A Zaka man facing a murder charge has been granted ZWL$20 000 bail by High Court judge, Justice Garainesu Mawadze, after he spent almost four months in remand prison, reported <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/murder-suspect-gets-zwl20-000-bail%ef%bf%bc/">The Mirror</a>.
However, Panashe Chiwira (21) of Jerera’s role in the alleged murder was not stated in State papers.
State papers only include Chiwira as the fifth accused person in the murder of Alphios Mukorera at Jerera Growth Point on 10 October 2022.
Prosecutor Edwin Mbavarira did not oppose the bail.
The other accused are Susan Chekungwara (26) a sex worker, Talent Mugariri (24), Brighton Machaya (23) and Austin Gwatiwana (18).
It is alleged that Chekungwara would lure rich clients and inform Mugariri, Machaya, and Gwatiwana who would then attack her clients and rob them of valuables.
Mugariri, Machaya and Gwatiwana have previous convictions for stealing a vehicle under CR86/02/22 and CR151/04/19.
Allegations are that on 10 October 2022, Chekungwara left Nherera Night Club with Mukorera around 3 AM after informing her accomplices that he had cash on him.
Mugari, Machaya and Gwatiwana followed Chekungwara and Mukorera and they arrived at her place as Mukorera was soliciting sex.
It is further alleged that the three then accused Mukorera of having a relationship with Machaya’s wife.
The three began assaulting him with a log until he died. They allegedly stole US$283, a pair of brown shoes and an Itel phone from the deceased.
The suspects then took Mukorera’s body and dumped it in an open space at the growth point.
A passerby saw Mukorera’s lifeless body and informed the Police who conducted investigations leading to Chekungwara’s arrest.
She then implicated the other accused persons including Chiwira.

Murder Suspect Released On ZWL$20 000 Bail

A Harare man who was arrested in connection with the murder of an Eastlea man on 19 November last year had his charges withdrawn before plea after police arrested former police detective <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison Muvevi</a> on suspicion he was the one who killed the man.
Nyasha Eusen had his case withdrawn before plea by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi after spending two months in remand prison.
The State on Monday, 23 January told the court that they are withdrawing the matter before plea for lack of evidence.
Allegations were that on 19 November 2022, at around 0900 hours Eusen was in the company of the deceased at Clan Court, Eastlea, Harare when they met Muvevi.
While there, Muvevi withdrew his pistol and shot the deceased Nyarai Round once on the head for no apparent reason.
Eusen tried to run away but was caught and Muvevi bundled into his Toyota Allion.
It is alleged that Muvevi, in the company of two other unknown men, drove his vehicle to Huruyadzo shopping centre in Chitungwiza.
Eusen reportedly then managed to later escape.

Man Wrongfully Charged For Murder In Eastlea Freed After Muvevi's Arrest

A 24-year-old woman from Buhera, Manicaland Province, has been arrested for murder after she crushed her two-month-old baby’s head against a rock and killed him during a prayer session.
The woman, Mary Rukobo, from Mashangana Village in the Muzokomba area in Buhera said she heard a voice instructing her to kill her two children, including the now-deceased, while she was engaged in prayer.
Police said the matter came to light after Rukobo confessed the murder to some villagers. Police said in a statement:

Police in Muzokomba have arrested Mary Rukobo (24) in connection with a case of murder that occurred on 19/01/23 at Mashangana Village, Buhera.
The suspect allegedly confessed to some villagers that she crashed the heads of her two kids against a rock several times during a prayer session after hearing a voice to kill all the kids.
One of the kids, Calvin Maputsa (2 months) sustained head injuries and died on the spot, while another kid (2) sustained a swollen head and was admitted at a Murambinda Mission Hospital.

Woman Claims A Voice During Prayer Session Instructed Her To Kill Own Children

Hundreds of people filled the streets in Mucheke suburb, Masvingo on Thursday morning when Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers brought Tafadzwa Kanengoni alias “Soda Water” who was arrested in connection with the murder of a popular tuckshop owner at Sisk business centre recently.
The people wanted to lay their hands on the tattooed Kanengoni as he arrived under heavy Police escort at the scene of the crime along Kaguvi Street, Mucheke B Masvingo for indications.
Michael Munhungowarwa (41) was shot and killed on Saturday evening as he and his wife were closing their tuckshop.
The robbers went away with an undisclosed amount of money after killing the businessman.
Reports suggest Kanengoni was arrested at a girlfriend’s place in Zvishavane.
ZRP spokesperson in Masvingo Province Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the story.

Masvingo "Jailbird" Arrested Over The Murder Of Tuckshop Owner

A Zimbabwean national serving jail time at a prison in Maun, Botswana was killed by his Motswana cellmate after a fight ensued between the two in the dead of night on Sunday.
The Botswana Prison Service (BPS) has identified the now-deceased Zimbabwean national as Michael Phuti (31).
Phuti’s known address in Botswana is Magapatona Ward in Tutume Village, which is about 50km from the Zimbabwe border.
BPS spokesperson Senior Superintendent Oagile Kojane said the two inmates fought at around 11 PM. He added:

The incident resulted in one inmate being seriously injured and [he] was immediately rushed to the Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Osego Mosetlhane, 36, of Kgaphamadi Wadi in Gantsi.

Jailed Zimbabwean Man Killed In Botswana Prison Fight

Three cousins from Jotsholo in Lupane were arrested for allegedly taking turns to assault a police officer at a beer drink on Christmas Day leading to his death a day later.
The suspects, Lizwe Tshuma (18), Nowell Tshuma (20) and Forget Tshuma (20), all of Sikhali 1 village under Chief Mabhikwa, recently appeared in court for the murder of Mandleni Ncube (31) of the same village.
They were not asked to plead to murder when they appeared before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku.
The three suspects were remanded in custody to 12 January 2023 and were advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
The court heard that the murder took place at Jabhiwa business centre in Jotsholo on Christmas Day. Prosecutor Zandile Lauren Ndebele said:

On the 25th of December at around 11:30 PM the deceased was standing at the veranda of Saphiwa Kuhle store wearing a police uniform.
He was greeted by the informant Sicelo Moyo who was heading to where some people were drinking.
Moments later the informant heard a noise coming from the direction where the deceased was where he was having an argument with one Makhosi Mpala which prompted him to go outside the bar and check.

It was alleged that while the now-deceased policeman was arguing with Mpala, Lizwe approached from the back holding a knobkerrie.
Lizwe allegedly struck the cop once on the head and ran away.
The deceased fell down on his face and became unconscious.
The court heard that Nowell came with a log and hit him once on the back of the thighs and ran away.
Forget also came and struck the cop with an empty bottle of beer on the head and fled, the court heard.
Ndebele said the informant tried to render first aid by pouring water on an unconscious Ncube who was bleeding from the mouth and nose but to no avail.
Ncube was then rushed to Tshongogwe Hospital where he was transferred to St Luke’s Hospital but he died on admission.

Three Cousins Fatally Assault Policeman On Christmas Day

A 25-year-old bartender has been arrested for fatally stabbing a man with an Okapi knife on Unity Day in Kezi.
The suspect killed the now-deceased after accusing him of attacking him with a catapult and then stealing a bottle of whisky.
According to a statement issued by the Police, the incident occurred at Donkwe Donkwe Business Centre. Police said:

Police in Kezi have arrested a bar attendant, Wilson Mugandi aged 25 in connection with a case of murder that occurred on December 22, 2022 at a bar at Donkwe Donkwe Business Centre.

Kezi Barman Arrested For Murdering Imbiber

Police in Binga have launched a manhunt for two suspects who allegedly fatally struck a 36-year-old man with logs and a spear accusing him of having love affairs with their wives.
The murder occurred in Lusulu, Binga on Wednesday last week.
Police have identified the accused as Polite Ndlovu (24) and Justice Ndlovu (22).
Acting Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma said that the now-deceased, Stephen Mpofu (36), was attacked by the two while he was asleep in his bedroom hut with his wife.
He said the two were shouting outside threatening to kill Mpofu for allegedly having love affairs with their wives before they broke the door to the bedroom hut.
Mpofu tried to run away but one of the two suspects grabbed him. Said Asst Insp Mahohoma:

The suspects started assaulting him with logs and a spear. Mpofu’s wife phoned the village head who rushed to the scene and found the two still assaulting Mpofu who was lying in a pool of blood.
The village head tried to restrain the two from further assaulting him but they threatened him before they fled.
It was only after they left that the village head and Mpofu’s wife managed to get close to him and immediately took him to a nearby clinic but he died before they got to the clinic.

Binga Man Killed For Allegedly Dating Married Women

A 65-year-old man from Mutunda Village, Chief Siambuwa, Binga, was allegedly killed and his head skinned by five unidentified men on Wednesday last week.
Acting Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma confirmed receiving the report.
He said the reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained and the suspected murderers are still at large.
Asst Insp Mahohoma said on Wednesday, the now deceased Amion Bube was at the fields with his wife until about 5 PM when he decided to go home leaving her behind.
The wife then followed after a while and as she approached their homestead she saw five men she could not identify running away from their homestead which was on fire.
When she got inside the homestead she saw her husband’s body lying in a pool of blood close to their burning bedroom hut.

Also beside the body of the deceased was a blood-stained axe. Our officers also observed struggle marks and five huts that had been burnt.
We appeal to members of the public to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of the five who are still at large.
Members of the public should also desist from using violence to solve differences as it costs lives.

Binga Man (65) Murdered, Skinned And Homestead Burnt

A Bulawayo man on Wednesday killed his wife in cold blood and went on to sexually abuse her corpse in full view of the couple’s two minor children.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident that occurred on 7th December 2022 at a house in Cowdray Park in Bulawayo. 
He identified the suspect as Judge Evans Zinzombe (36). Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

The suspect allegedly sneaked into the room where his wife Pholomina Mabika (32), daughter (12), and son (7) before strangling her to death with his hands.
The suspect and his wife were reportedly having marital disputes which forced them to sleep in separate rooms.
After the callous murder, the suspect allegedly went on to sexually abuse the body in full view of his children.
The children spent the whole night with the body before a police report was made in the morning.

Police later said the body of the suspect was found hanging in a local church in Cowdray Park.

Man Kills Wife, Sexually Violates Her Corpse In Front Of Couple’s Children

A 50-year-old Zimbabwean priest who was illegally living in South Africa was sentenced to two life terms for murder and rape in the neighbouring country.
The Zimbabwean national, Lucas Chauke, was sentenced to two life terms for murder and rape by the North West High Court.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) provincial spokesperson Henry Mamothame said Chauke was also jailed for another 30 years on two other counts of murder and rape.
Between 2017 and 2018, Chauke, a known priest, attacked three women.
In the first incident in 2017, Chauke took a 53-year-old woman to a secluded place, ostensibly to help spiritually but then raped the woman repeatedly and tied her to a tree before fleeing from the scene.
According to Mamothame, the victim managed to untie herself and ran for help. Chauke received a life sentence for this attack.
In the second incident, on 10 May 2018, Chauke took a 55-year-old woman to the same secluded place and raped her. He then fled the scene.
The victim failed to untie herself and her decomposed body was later discovered still tied to the tree.
Chauke was sentenced to life for murder and a further 15 years for rape
On 3 August 2018, Chauke took a 55-year-old woman to the same spot and tried to rape her, but failed. He tied the woman to a tree and left her to die.
He was sentenced to 15 years for murder. Said Mamothame:

Zimbabwean Priest Sentenced To 2 Life Terms For Rape And Murder In South Africa

A man suspected to be mentally challenged allegedly killed his father before beheading him and chopping off his test*cles.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said ZRP Makosa arrested Tonderai Mariwo for allegedly axing his father to death and chopping off some of his body parts. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

ZRP Makosa arrested Tonderai Mariwo, a suspected mentally challenged man, for a case of murder where he allegedly struck his father once with an axe on the neck before cutting off the head, right thump, and testicles.
The suspect has since appeared before Mutoko Magistrate Court, where he was remanded in custody for trial on 16/12/22.

In an unrelated case, police say they are investigating the alleged rape of a 13-year-old grade seven pupil from Mutoko.
Police said the minor had visited her mother in Kambuzuma, Harare, during the holidays when she was sexually abused.
The matter came to light after the girl had returned to Mutoko and it was discovered that she was already six months pregnant. Police said:

Man Kills Father, Chops Off His Test*cles

The High Court has acquitted two members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) accused of shooting dead two Mwenezi brothers.
The soldiers, Tapiwanashe Basopo (37) and Collen Ncube (29), who are based at HQ1 Brigade in Bulawayo, were acquitted on Tuesday by Justice Garainesu Mawadze at the High Court in Masvingo.
The two soldiers were deployed to Mijingwe Ranch in Mwenezi when the shooting incident happened.
<h2>The allegations</h2>
It was alleged that Basopo, Ncube, and a third soldier, Chrispen Maphosa (30), who is at large were approached by Olman Nyunyana on 26 December 2019.
Nyunyana complained to the soldiers that his brother Ernest had been severely assaulted by three Matarise brothers on Christmas evening.
Basopo, Ncube and Maphosa offered to track and apprehend the accused brothers.
Maphosa and Basopo armed themselves with AK 47 rifles and dressed in army regalia and proceeded to Shayamabvudzi Business Centre where they arrived at around 9 PM.
They confronted Sifelani who ran home and informed his brothers, Ngonidzashe and Hosiah.
The brothers armed themselves with a knife, machetes, an iron bar, and a screwdriver and went and confronted the soldiers.
A misunderstanding arose and the brothers charged toward the soldiers. Sifelani and Hosiah were then shot dead in the melee.
Sifelani and Hosiah were shot in the chest and head respectively and died on the spot.
Ngonidzashe escaped and reported the matter to the police. ZRP officers teamed up with members of the military police and arrested the three soldiers.
Four live rounds, three spent cartridges, magazines, and two AK47 rifles were recovered.
The State, however, said in court that it did not have enough evidence against the two, and Justice Mawadze cleared them of the charges.
Police are looking for Maphosa after a warrant of arrest was issued by the High Court on 17 March 2022.
<h2>The Ruling</h2>
Justice Mawadze did not clear Maphosa of the charges after noting that he had not reported for work for several months. In his ruling, Justice Mawadze said:

The State has indicated that there is not enough evidence to get a verdict and my judgment is as follows. Maphosa remains on the warrant of arrest issued on March 17, 2022.
Basopo and Ncube are hereby cleared of the murder and any other related charges and are hereby acquitted.
The two AK47 rifles being held as exhibits will remain since the State intends to try Maphosa.

Justice Mawadze said Basopo and Ncube had attended court hearings consistently and urged them to behave appropriately as members of the uniformed forces.

Two Soldiers Who Shot And Killed Two Mwenezi Brothers Acquitted

The High Court has acquitted a Shamva man of a murder charge despite killing his minor daughter in cold blood last year after he went into a “trance” at his homestead in Madhishi Village.
High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi ruled that Zexteen Dzemwa was not in his right mind when he fatally struck his daughter with an axe.
According to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/high-court-acquits-father-who-axed-daughter-to-death/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, witnesses who testified also told the court they were still in shock because Dzemwa loved his children dearly to hurt them.
They also told the court that on the day Dzemwa murdered his child, he acted like someone who was possessed as it was difficult to apprehend and tie him to a tree.
Dzemwa reportedly only regained his senses after he was told he had killed his daughter and the police had arrived to arrest him.
In court, the accused defended himself saying he did not remember the details of the fateful day and believed there was an external force that caused him to commit the crime.
The court heard that Dzemwa was left attending to his two daughters whilst his wife went to pray at a mountain.
He reportedly proceeded to prepare breakfast for them and saw what looked like a snake on the fireplace.
Dzemwa allegedly started singing hymns denouncing evil spirits. He then sent his other daughter to collect a bible from her mum who was praying in the mountain close to their homestead.
As his daughter was returning to the homestead, Dzemwa’s wife saw her husband suddenly striking their other girl who had remained home with an axe.
She screamed for help and neighbours struggled to subdue him as he threatened to kill them as well.

High Court Acquits Father Who Axed Daughter To Death

A commercial sex worker was robbed and killed by two clients she had offered sex to in Bikita, Masvingo Province, on Thursday.
Police said that the victim, aged 24, had offered her services to the two men, who after satisfying their appetites, demanded the money they had paid her, assaulted severely her, and took the money.
The woman died the following day as a result of the injuries she suffered during the assault. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case where a woman (24) was attacked by two unknown male suspects whom she had offered sex at a charge of US$20 at Makaya Village, Bikita, on 17/11/22.
After the act, the suspects allegedly demanded the money they had paid for the services before severely assaulting the victim with sticks and robbing her of US$20.
The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained on 18/11/22.

In another murder case, police in Epworth arrested Innocent Zamura (34) for allegedly killing a 22-year-old man after he saw him walking with his ex-wife. Police said in a statement:

On 17/11/22, ZRP Epworth arrested Innocent Zaruma (34) for a murder case in which he attacked his ex-wife, Talent Simba (23), and Surance Sithole (22) after he had found the two walking together near Mabvazuva Secondary school in Epworth, Harare on 16/11/22.
The suspect stabbed Surance Sithole once in the stomach before dragging his ex-wife to an unknown place, leaving the victim with protruding intestines.
The victim was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two Men Rob And Kill Sex Worker In Bikita

A Chivhu woman who beheaded her four children in 2020 recently told the court that she wanted to kill herself and feared that they were going to be abused by a stepmother after she was gone.
Emelda Marizanhi is accused of feeding her four children with rat poison before cutting off their heads following a dispute with her husband.
Through her lawyers, Marizanhi told the court that she was mentally unstable when she committed the offence.
She argued that her condition is hereditary since there is a history of mental illness in her family.
Marizanhi’s mother, Marai Mupini and her maternal aunt, Eunice Mutukwa also defended her telling the court she was in fact a loving mother.
Relatives also claimed that there is a history of mental illness from her paternal side.
As the trial concluded on Wednesday, Marizanhi said she did not regret the crimes.
In her defence, she told the court that she killed her children to save her children from the abuse they were going to get from their father’s new wife after her death. She said:

I also wanted to die. That day I first took rat poison… the pills and called my children to take them as well before I instructed them to go to bed.
I was not breathing well and I realised there were survival chances; so to avoid that, I had to finish them (my children) off.
So, I decided to cut their throats with a knife.
I did this because I did not want my children to suffer and grow up miserable in my absence as I did when I was growing up.

Marizanhi also told the court her own parents separated when she was still very young and had a tough upbringing.
She said when she met her husband Lameck Brande, the two were happy in their earlier days of marriage and acquired immovable and movable properties including a flourishing business. She added:

We started from scratch. We had nothing when we got married but we were happy.
The problems started when we started amassing wealth. My husband became abusive and was involved in extramarital affairs with several women.
</blockquote>
She then decided to kill herself the time she was expecting her fifth child.
Marizanhi however did not die from an attempted suicide after she was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A State witness, Dr Patrick dismissed claims that Marazanhi was unstable when she killed her children as supported by his medical affidavit.

Chivhu Woman Says She Killed Her Four Daughters To Protect Them

A 15-year-old girl from Gwanda was allegedly murdered by her 31-year-old husband who accused her of infidelity.
The now-deceased minor, Silindokuhle Sibanda, stayed with her husband Thandazani Ncube at his parents’ homestead in the Singukwe area.
It is alleged that Ncube assaulted the teenager in the middle of the night while they were on their way home after attending a party on 5 November 2022.
After the attack, Ncube carried the girl home in a wheelbarrow and placed her on their bed.
The minor was found dead the following morning.
Ncube was on Monday arraigned before Gwanda magistrate, Polite Ncube Banda, facing a murder charge. He was remanded in custody to 21 November.
Prosecuting, Ngonidzashe Shumba said Ncube attacked Silindokuhle on 5 November around 11 PM and the minor succumbed to head injuries the following day. Said Shumba:

On 5 November at around 11 PM Thandazani Ncube struck Silindokuhle Sibanda on the back of her head using an unknown object following an altercation. Ncube was accusing the girl of infidelity.
Silindokuhle succumbed to head injuries the following day at around 4 AM.

Earlier, Ncube’s mother, Sibongile Ncube, told the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/man-31-assaults-15-year-old-wife-to-death/">Chronicle</a> that her son and Silindokuhle had gone to a party at a nearby homestead.
She said in the middle of the night she heard the sound of a wheelbarrow being pushed out of the yard.
Ncube said a few minutes later her son came rushing and informed her that his wife had a headache.
She said she went back to sleep assuming that Silindokuhle would be fine in the morning since it was just a headache.
However, when Ncube went to check on Silindokuhle the following morning, she found the girl lying on her bed covered in blood-soaked blankets. She said:

My son was also there in the same room and he told me that he was trying to discipline her for cheating on him with another man.
Upon checking Silindokuhle, I discovered that she was already dead.

Ncube said she immediately alerted neighbours who came to the homestead and community members effected a citizen arrest on Thandazani and escorted him to a police base in Stanmore leading to his arrest.

Man (31) Kills 15-year-old "Wife" Over Infidelity Allegations

Police in Harare have arrested a 16-year-old girl for killing a 35-year-old man with a kitchen wife following a misunderstanding during a beer-drinking binge in Hatcliffe.
In a statement on Thursday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the juvenile fatally stabbed Amos Mhere with a knife in the chest on Wednesday around 9.30 PM. Police said:

On 02/11/22, ZRP Borrowdale arrested a 16-year-old girl for murder which occurred on 2/11/22 at around 2130 hours at the suspect’s residence at Premier Park, Hatcliffe, Harare.
The victim, Amos Mhere (35) died on the spot after being stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife following a misunderstanding during a beer-drinking spree at a shebeen in Hatcliffe.

In an unrelated incident, Police in Harare arrested a woman for car theft after she hired a vehicle from a car rental company located at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport before selling it for US$4 000.
The suspect, Barbra Vimbai Chitisuro, was nabbed after selling the Honda Fit vehicle to a car dealer in Harare who then put the vehicle on display. ZRP said:

On 02/11/22, Police in Harare arrested Barbra Vimbai Chitisuro in connection with a case of theft of a motor vehicle that occurred in Harare, where she allegedly sold a Honda Fit vehicle (AFS 4457) which she had hired from a car rental company located at RGMI Airport.
The suspect had hired the car for a week and used a fake vehicle registration book to sell the car for US$4000 to a Harare car dealer. Police have since recovered the vehicle, which was on display at the car dealer’s garage.

Girl (16) Fatally Stabs Man (35) At Shebeen

Five men teamed up to fatally assault a 16-year-old man accused of stealing a cellphone in Karoi last month, police have said.
The victim was attacked on 15 October and died on 1 November at Karoi District Hospital.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said they have arrested three of the suspects while the other two are still at large. Police said:

Police in Karoi arrested Cephas Banda, Ian Murehwa and Langton Mapfura (21) in connection with a case of murder in which a 16-year-old juvenile was attacked on October 15, 2022, near Tambawadya Primary School, Chikangwe, after being accused of stealing a cellphone.
The victim died on November 1, 2022, on admission at Karoi District Hospital. The other two unknown suspects are on the run. Investigations are underway.

16-year-old Man Killed Over Cellphone

A Harare man was shot dead in Belvedere suburb while he was closing the gate to his house.
Police said Grayham Chundu (41) was shot and killed on Saturday night just before 9 PM at the gate to his house along Castens Way in Belvedere and nothing was stolen. ZRP tweeted:

Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding a murder case that occurred on 29/10/22 at around 2050 hours at a house along Castens Way, Belvedere in which the victim, Chundu Grayham (41) was shot with an unidentified firearm on the stomach by two unknown suspects, whilst closing the gate. The victim died on the way to the hospital and nothing was stolen at the house.

In an unrelated case, ZRP Silobela arrested two men for allegedly fatally stabbing another man with a knife. Police said:

On 29/10/22, ZRP Silobela arrested Justice Matindike (24) and Tirivashe Gumbo (23) in connection with a case of murder that occurred on 29/10/22 at Mambo Queen Mine, where the victim, Marshal Gwabeni (30) died after being stabbed on the chest and both hands with a knife.
The suspects were on a revenge mission after the victim had stabbed Justice Matindike with a broken beer bottle in the hand following an argument over an unknown issue during a beer-drinking spree on 28/10/22 at a nightclub.
