The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has announced that lawyer, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obey_Shava/">Obey Shava</a> was viciously attacked by four unidentified men who broke his legs. In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, the party’s spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere said:

We’ve received a disturbing report that human rights defender &amp; lawyer @obeyshava1 was badly assaulted this evening. We condemn this savage act and wish him a speedy recovery.

According to reports, four assailants broke his legs and left him fighting for his life. In a Twitter post, Advocate Thabani Mpofu, another top CCC lawyer, expressed his concern over the safety of citizens during this tumultuous season. He said:

Top CCC Lawyer Obey Shava was this evening viciously attacked by 4 men who broke his legs and left him battling for his life. The safety of our citizens must be uppermost on the state’s agenda, particularly during this crazy season. Wishing this champion a speedy recovery.

Former ZINASU leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Makomborero_Haruzivishe/">Makomborero Haruzivishe</a>, condemned the attack suggesting that the perpetrators were sent by the ruling ZANU PF. He said:

The attack on multi-award-winning human rights lawyer @obeyshava1 by state agents in Harare this evening is alarming. Our hardworking and passionate human rights lawyer doesn’t deserve this savage attack breaking his legs and leaving him battling for his life. #ZanuPfMustGo
</blockquote>
ZAPU has also taken to Twitter to condemn the brutal and barbaric attack on human rights lawyer Obey Shava by alleged ZANUPF thugs. The party said the attack is a clear indication that the perpetrators have resorted to their Mgagao settings, which is deeply concerning. ZAPU tagged SADC and the African Union in their post, highlighting the need for regional and continental bodies to take action against such acts of violence.

Unidentified Men Attack CCC Lawyer Obey Shava, Break His Legs

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has urged journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono and party activists to desist from verbally attacking each other on social media platforms.
Chin’ono clashed with some CCC activists on Twitter including Makomborero Haruzivishe after he said the opposition party was “dead as a Dodo”.
The idiom, dead as a Dodo, is mostly used in casual communication or as slang. It originates from the fact that the dodo bird is no longer in existence.
The dodo was a bird that lived on the island of Mauritius. It was somewhat like a turkey and couldn’t fly and was hunted to extinction.
The phrase is used to stress that someone or something is dead.
Posting on Twitter this Monday, Chamisa said he was just back from the Easter retreat in the countryside where the network is zero. He wrote:

Fellow Citizens, Brothers &amp; Sisters a lot has happened, this is not the time to trade barbs and fight each other. We give oppressors oxygen and a lifeline.
Let’s fix our eyes on the prize. We must win change for everyone. Let there be peace &amp; love! We’re #OnePeople Zimbabwe!

On being asked by one of his followers if CCC was indeed as dead as a Dodo, Chamisa said:

It matters not.. calling an elephant a rat a million times doesn’t make it a rat. We are a juggernaut!
Everyone knows this, especially those who oppose, dislike, and can’t handle us! Keep shining!
</blockquote>
Chamisa, however, made a veiled attack on Chin’ono, saying weak people attack others instead of offering solutions to problems. He said:

Weak people criticize others. Strong people criticize themselves and give ideas and solutions. Let’s all be strong people. Stronger together!

Fighting Amongst Ourselves Gives ZANU PF Oxygen - Chamisa

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Makomborero Haruzivishe has described journalist Hopewell Chin’ono as a drunk dog that has gone rogue.
This comes after Chin’ono has criticised CCC leaders of failing to fully take advantage of the Al Jazeera Documentary “Gold Mafia” and expose alleged ZANU PF corruption and incompetence to the electorate.
Chin’ono also said CCC was as dead as a dodo which means something is no longer effective, important or popular and this angered CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s loyalists.
Posting on Twitter, Haruzivishe said Shabba has gone rogue again in an apparent reference to one of Chin’ono’s dogs. <a href="https://twitter.com/MakomboreroH/status/1645396938605436929">He said</a>:

Lol Ambassador Shabba has gone rogue again.
A dog that forgets its mandate in society is problematic.
Instead of barking thieves away, Shabba is busy biting the victims of robbery.
If it’s whiskey then Shabba must self-quarantine till sober.

In response, Chin’ono warned CCC that their toxicity will cost them votes in the upcoming general elections. <a href="https://twitter.com/daddyhope/status/1645540536986611713">He tweeted:</a>

Calling me a dog with the blessing of your leadership is what makes CCC unattractive to many who chose to keep quiet and watch you tear your party into pieces!
I have never been CCC &amp; I will never be part of a ZANUPF B which insults and calls people Dogs! Good luck with 2023!

Award-winning author Tsitsi Dangarembga urged the protagonists to exercise restraint and acknowledge that they are both to blame for the fallout. <a href="https://twitter.com/EfieZethu/status/1645616812917129216">She said</a>:

Perhaps there could be some kind of apologies all around. Obviously, people were very hurt by the Dodo comment. Perhaps a clarification.
In the same way, the dog video is a completely unacceptable response to a felt insult. We have to build bridges to each other.

Meanwhile, senior CCC official David Coltart defended Chin’ono saying journalists should be allowed to speak freely. <a href="https://twitter.com/DavidColtart/status/1645649325622456321">Said Coltart</a>:

This entire episode is unfortunate. Every country needs a robust 4th Estate, which isn’t partisan, holds no political ambition and exposes and promotes truth in public discourse.

Chamisa Ally Calls Hopewell Chin'ono A Drunk Dog

Pro-democracy campaigner, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Makomborero_Haruzivishe">Makomborero Haruzivishe</a> has said Zimbabwean jails have 60 political prisoners who are victims of the ruling ZANU PF’s capture of the judiciary.
In Twitter posts seen by Pindula News, Haruzivishe who himself has in the past been <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/01/07/mdc-alliance-activist-makomborero-haruzivishe-granted-bail-2/">detained for a prolonged period of time</a> says the ruling party was weaponising the law. He said:

60 Zimbabweans are in jail not because they are criminals, they are imprisoned because they are political activists. They are in jail because ZanuPf weaponized the law against them. They are in bondage because of a captured justice system. 
</blockquote>
Haruzivishe who is a member of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) had earlier posted on the same platform demanding the release of them all and an end to judicial capture. Read his initial post:

The ruling ZANU PF party, however, denies allegations that it influences court decisions saying the judiciary is independent of the executive. 
Zengeza West Member of Parliament (MP), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Sithole">Godfrey Sithole</a> (Chitungwiza North MP) are among the people arrested and detained allegedly for political reasons.
They were arrested in June over the 14 June Nyatsime violence which erupted during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali. They were accused of inciting public violence after they demanded justice for the murdered activist.

"Zimbabwean Jails Have 60 Political Prisoners" - Makomborero Haruzivishe

High Court judge Justice Happias Zhou has overturned the conviction and sentencing of pro-democracy activist Makomborero Haruzivishe for allegedly blowing a whistle during a protest in Harare in February 2020.
The State accused Haruzivishe of blowing a whistle to alert opposition protesters to pounce on police during a protest. A court found him guilty of inciting violence.
Kossam Ncube of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who represented Haruzivishe during his trial said they were going to appeal both the conviction and sentencing arguing that only circumstantial evidence was used to convict him of inciting violence. He said:

We do not agree with the decision of the court because we believe the facts upon which the court relied to arrive at the decision to convict could not support that decision.
Therefore, it was a serious misdirection on the part of the court to convict him of those offences.
And we are definitely going to take it up on appeal because the decision of the court cannot be sustained legally.

ZHLR have successfully appealed Haruzivishe’s conviction and sentencing at the High Court. The human rights lawyers said in a statement this Thursday:

We have ended the persecution of pro-democracy campaigner Makomborero Haruzivishe by obtaining a High Court order quashing and setting aside his conviction and sentence for allegedly blowing a whistle during a protest as he has been found not guilty and acquitted by Justice Zhou.

Human Rights Campaigner, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Acquitted By High Court

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Makomborero_Haruzivishe">Makomborero Haruzivishe</a> who is wanted by the police was spotted outside Zimbabwe.
Haruzivishe is one of the five CCC members who disappeared during their trial on charges of staging “an illegal demonstration” in Warren Park, Harare, in May 2020, the State has said.
Prosecutor Miss Police Muzamani told the court on Friday that the police now have a lead on where Makomborero Haruzivishe might be after he disappeared during the trial of the five. 
Haruzivishe is on the run and has been issued a warrant of arrest.
Meanwhile, fellow CCC member, Womberaiishe Nhende, Thursday posted a picture of himself, Haruzivishe and some other people suggesting that Haruzivishe had skipped the country’s border. He captioned it:

His co-accused are <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Joana_Mamombe">Joana Mamombe</a>, Stanley Manyenga, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Cecilia_Chimbiri">Cecilia Chimbiri</a> and Lovejoy Chitengu. 
They appeared in court yesterday charged with participating in a gathering with intent to commit public violence or violating COVID-19 lockdown regulations. 
They denied the charges arguing that the charges they were facing were based on repealed law and they could not thus be prosecuted.
Mamombe and her co-accused argued that participating in a gathering was not an offence. They say holding placards did not constitute an offence and the State failed to pinpoint who was holding the placards.
Miss Muzamani sought a postponement to October 19 to allow police to track down Haruzivishe and this was granted. 
Haruzivishe was early this year from pre-trial detention where he had spent nearly 10 months. The 29-year-old was released on ZWL$20 000 bail.
He has been facing a number of charges including inciting public violence and kidnapping.
He denies violating any law, and his party says “these are trumped-up charges” must be viewed as the government’s attempt to crack down on dissent.

Wanted Makomborero Haruzivishe Spotted Outside Zimbabwe

MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe says the “Operation Restore Legacy” of November 2017, which led to the ouster of the late former president Robert Mugabe was a lie that will be reversed in 2023’s general election with his party’s victory.
The former students unionist made the remarks during a press conference in Harare Friday.
He claimed that the real reason for the military assisted transition was for ZANU PF political elites to loot the country’s resources with impunity.
Haruzivishe speaks barely days after being released from prison where he spent nearly 10 months for kidnapping and inciting public violence, charges he denies. He said:
<blockquote>
We were told lies that the country’s fortunes were to be protected and turned around, yet this was just a plan to loot and completely destroy democracy in Zimbabwe. There is need to reverse all those lies through legal means and processes.
Whilst in prison, l met some of those people who helped to make the so-called ‘restore legacy’ a success but they are rotting in jail. I learnt that restore legacy was a manifesto of lies, thieving, looting and state capture and to violet people’s rights. Come 2023, let us all register to vote in our numbers. Zanu PF, in 2023 is going.
For the 322 days that l was imprisoned, each day l deliberated on how to remove Zanu PF so l had 322 ideas thought over this period l stayed in prison. I came out strong knowing this party is going. One by one, these ideas will be implemented.

He reiterated that detention or any form of persecution will not dampen his spirit and desire to fight for the enhancement of democracy in Zimbabwe as well as the improvement of living standards for the common man.

"Operation Restore Legacy Was A Lie, Will Be Reversed In 2023," Makomborero Haruzivishe

Prominent MDC Alliance activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Makomborero_Haruzivishe">Makomborero Haruzivishe</a> has vowed to continue fighting against civil and political injustice even in the face of State persecution.
Haruzivishe was granted bail by the High Court on Friday and released from prison on Saturday after spending ten months and 22 days behind bars on several criminal charges.
Addressing party supporters and activists who had come to welcome him from prison on Saturday, Haruzivishe said:

As long as they continue charging us on flimsy charges we will not be deterred and prison is just prison, people go in and go out and even if it means that I will go back again I will as long as we get our rights and freedoms.
We know that it is not an easy road and great sacrifices will be made, others have made bigger sacrifices, others have paid the ultimate price, we can talk of Itai Dzamara and all those victims of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ferret_Force">ferret</a>.
The charges I got in here for our constitutionally guaranteed freedom of assembly and freedom of expression and they try to criminalize that, it is awkward but only serves to strengthen me more that they wanted to scare me away and we are the people in charge and victory is certain.
State capture is a reality, getting into prison for this prolonged period enabled me to see that we have a bigger fight than what we imagined especially within our justice system we have a bigger fight, and we have to pull up our socks and be more radical in terms of educating the masses for them to know the problem that we have which chiefly emanates from military capture.

Haruzivishe Pledges To Continue Fighting Against Injustices

Prominent MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe finally tested freedom late on Saturday afternoon, more than 24 hours after Justices Rodgers Manyangadze and Joseph Chilimbe sitting on appeal granted him $20 000 bail.
Haruzivishe was granted bail by the High Court judges on Friday after hearing arguments from prosecutor Moleen Mutamangira and defence lawyers Lovemore Madhuku and Simon Chabuka.
The 29-year-old was released on Saturday and was welcomed by jubilant MDC Alliance members.  See the pictures below:

Outgoing Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) president, Takudzwa Ngadziore, said that students will continue pushing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to implement political and economic reforms that are long overdue.
Ngadziore was speaking on Friday soon after the High court granted bail to prominent MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe who had been in pre-trial detention for nearly 10 months. Said Ngadziore:

There has been a miscarriage of justice for quite some time.
He (Haruzivishe) was facing pretrial detention for around 10 months and that is just a reflection of how we are led by vacuous revolution, by intellectual hyenas but we should as young people be at the forefront to respond and act, to stand up and demand the space which is being suffocated by all these undemocratic means and unjust acts by the state and the regime.
As the outgoing student president, a close brother to Mako, I am happy he is out and with him being out, the situation is still where it was and there is nothing that can stop us from continuously speaking the truth to power.
There is economic mismanagement in this country. There is political instability, and it calls upon us because none but ourselves should always be on the forefront to speak for justice and solidarity to thrive which are the values we believe in social democracy.
Despite being granted bail on Friday, Haruzivishe was only released from prison on Saturday afternoon.

Haruzivishe was granted bail by the High Court on the last of his three pending criminal cases.
The 29-year-old was released on ZWL$20 000 bail by Justices Rodgers Manyangadze and Joseph Chilimbe sitting on appeal.
He was also ordered to reside at his given address in Mt Pleasant and report twice weekly to the police.
Haruzivishe is being represented by Lovemore Madhuku and Simon Chabuka.

ZINASU Welcomes Makomborero Haruzivishe Back

Opposition MDC Alliance has appealed to members of the public to wear black this Friday in solidarity with human rights activist Makomborero Haruzivishe who will be in court this Friday for his bail hearing.
The Students Unionist has been in prison for the past nine months over a number of alleged offences including alleged kidnapping and inciting public violence. 
MDC Alliance argues that Haruzivishe is a victim of the state’s crackdown on dissent. Pindula News presents the party’s statement:

Commenting on the statement, some social media users said Haruzivishe deserves better treatment since he “is not a criminal” adding that “real criminals are roaming the streets.”
Some of the big names that were picked as criminals are <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/10/rushwaya-implicated-in-o-r-tambo-gold-smuggling-saga/">Henrietta Rushwaya</a> (Zimbabwe Mining Federation president), <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/10/07/high-court-dismisses-corruption-charges-against-ex-health-minister-obadiah-moyo/">Obadiah Moyo</a> (Former Health Minister), and <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/26/mupfumiras-charge-sheet-shows-massive-corruption/">Priscah Mupfumira</a> (Former Tourism Minister).
The named people have pending corruption cases and some members of the public feel that they are not in prison because of their societal statuses.

#BlackFriday: Wear Black To Show Solidarity With Makomborero Haruzivishe - MDC Alliance

Opposition MDC Alliance activist, Makomborero Haruzivishe, remains caged despite being granted a $10 000 bail this week.
The former Students Unions’ leader was on Wednesday granted bail but remains in prison as it emerged that he is yet to secure bail for another case in which he is accused of kidnapping.
He had secured bail following a successful appeal at the High Court in a case in which bail had been revoked by a Harare magistrate. Said his lawyer Simon Chabuka:

He has another pending case for kidnapping. The impala case were they demanded the release of Ngadziore (Takudzwa), another activist. We will be making a fresh bail for him tomorrow (Thursday). The matter is likely to be set down on Monday or Tuesday.
</blockquote>
Chabuka says what is surprising is that the facts in a case he is being held for remain the same as the facts in the case he has been granted bail for. Chabuka added:

Circumstances and complainant’s remain the same so as his lawyers we feel it is just an unnecessary split of charges only aimed at keeping him inside.
</blockquote>
Makomborero has been in jail for the past nine months after his bail was revoked for skipping court.
He has several criminal cases yet to be finalised.

Makomborero Haruzivishe Remains In Prison Despite Being Granted Bail

MDC-Alliance activist, Makomborero Haruzivishe, has been granted a $10 000 bail by the High Court. 
This is one of his cases, and he was charged for “staging an illegal demonstration” near the Morgan Tsvangirai House, formerly Harvest House, in Harare in 2020.
Haruzivishe, who was being represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku and Mr Simon Chabuka, was freed on bail on appeal after his initial bail was revoked by a Harare magistrate after failing to avail himself in court on several occasions.
Haruzivishe is jointly appearing in court with Allan Moyo, Denford Ngadziore, Stanley Manyenga, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, who is alleged to be on the run.
Commenting on the development, MDC Alliance legislator for Harare West, Joanah Mamombe said the news was refreshing. She said:

Haruzivishe’s incaceration had drawn criticism from with the camps of human rights defenders, the opposition and the international community.
They described it as an assault on democracy and freedoms of expression and speech.

MDC Alliance Activist Makomborero Haruzivishe Granted Bail

A Harare magistrate Thursday freed two Harare residents who were arrested for disorderly conduct in April for chanting “Ahoi Macomrades, Ahoi” outside Harare Magistrates Court. The duo had attended a court session for MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe. The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) reports that Magistrate Barbra Mateko acquitted the duo citing that State witnesses contradicted each other glaringly in their testimonies during the trial and failed to corroborate each other’s evidence. ZIM COURT ACQUITS SLOGAN CHANTING DUO
HARARE Magistrate Barbra Mateko on Thursday 7 October 2021 set free two Harare residents who had been on trial on charges of disorderly conduct for allegedly chanting a slogan while attending a court session for pro-democracy campaigner Makomborero Haruzivishe in April 2021.
The two Harare residents Ngonidzashe Mupfumba and Kudakwashe Butao, who were out of prison custody on bail, had been on trial after they were arrested on 6 April 2021 and charged with disorderly conduct as defined in section 41(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
During trial, prosecutors alleged that Mupfumba and Butao, who were represented by Gift Mtisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, engaged in disorderly conduct by chanting a slogan “Ahoi Macomrades, Ahoi” outside Harare Magistrates Court after attending a court session for Haruzivishe and where some police officers were attempting to disperse people.
But Magistrate Mateko on Thursday 7 October 2021 discharged Mupfumba and Butao at the close of the prosecution case and ruled that State witnesses contradicted each other glaringly in their testimonies during trial and failed to corroborate each other’s evidence.

He writes from his cell at Harare Remand Prison in Zimbabwe we he’s detained for “inciting public violence and resisting a peace officer” after protesting over the deteriorating democratic space. Dear Comrades and friends,
In case you’re wondering, I’m enduring prison quite well. I’ve been prosecuted countless times over the past decade that I made a gentlemen’s agreement with pain. Having been arrested an average of three times a year, tortured numerous times since 2011, I have come to appreciate that pain has its place and I don’t mock its power. 
But it is a power that doesn’t touch my soul.
This solidifies in me the art of endurance. Yes, ENDURANCE is the word. I knew the word but never had the opportunity to really “feel” it, “touch” it, but was forced by circumstances imposed on me by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s dictatorship to live it. Indeed I’m living it, and I’m not so blind to military state capture to believe that it will end any time soon, as the subsequent capture of the justice system can prolong the seven months I have endured to seven years through more unjust convictions, but to me it doesn’t matter anymore. I will endure it to the very end.
You know, we have to face the facts; things aren’t getting any better. They are getting worse. All we are asking for is a Zimbabwe where every child gets a fair chance of quality education and every adult gets a fair chance of a decent earning, but all we are getting is corruption and abuse — yet in 2017, many believed things have changed, but they changed for the worse. 
Just another dictator, ED, with an even worse agenda; the perpetuation of military state capture, a worse type of governance with an increasingly ruthless, ever widening network to act it out.
Who knew before 2017 that there is a terror network of state agents called the “FERRET” squad who would be deployed against unsuspecting citizens with specific order to abduct, torture and harass them? 
Who knew before 2017 that there was a car rental company called IMPALA that is contracted by the government to ferry terror squads to our homes and move citizens to torture bases.
Because of such terror networks that are sponsored with our taxes; thoughts of real death, not the remediable conceit now of imprisonment as a unique death, becomes an insistent, strident companion to such an extent that when gunshots were fired during my arrest: I was ready.
Despite all this, we must never waver from the fact that justice is the first condition of humanity, and we deserve pure, undiluted justice.
We must tattoo it in our hearts that “I have the power, you have the power, and together we can make the change because people’s power is stronger than the individuals in power”.
With this tattoo we must action our power through exercising our constitutional rights of freedom of assembly, association, demonstrate and petition in the streets, freedom of expression on social media, for now is the right time to stop agonising and intensify organising. After all, we are the ones we have been waiting for.
More importantly comrades and friends, we must register to vote because after all is said and done, all popular democratic revolutions end in the ballot box.
Worry more about yourselves, the future of our beloved Zimbabwe, the next generation — and worry less about me, for I definitely will come out, sooner or later, dead or alive. 
After all, as I was enduring my birthday on 23 April, yeah, ENDURE, because birthday in prison is unlike birthday anywhere else. In prison, one doesn’t exactly celebrate their birthday, one ENDURES it. As I turned 29 years old, I reminded myself that some say life begins at 40, so I’ve got 11 years to 40. But since the life expectancy for Zimbabwean men is around 30 years, I cherished the realisation that I have already lived a full life, so either way I am in charge!

On the P. of October 2021, the National Executive Committee of the MDC Alliance met in accordance with the party’s constitution. The National Executive Committee received the reports of the President and the Secretary-General. The following matters were deliberated upon: 
A. Governance and Economic Crisis 
1. Political environment —The people’s leadership is building a platform for citizens to converge for change as we work to secure 6 million votes in the 2023 election and a two-thirds majority in Parliament. As we carry out this core objective, we are aware that Mr Mnangagwa’s murderous, illegitimate regime is sponsoring divergence of the citizens with a view to maintain the status quo and continue the suffering of the people, poverty, injustice and corruption. Against this background, the people’s party is mobilizing the citizen. The party remains resolute and principled under difficult circumstances. Our core business is to secure transformation and change in Zimbabwe by winning elections and forming the next government. With the people, we stand united in our central goal which is to win elections and take power. We thank the citizens for standing firm in rejecting dictatorship, corruption and injustice. 
2. Economic Crisis: Contrary to the regime’s propaganda that paints a false picture of economic recovery or progress, the party expresses concern over Zimbabwe’s multi-faceted governance, economic and social crisis which has manifested in mass starvation, hyperinflation, extreme poverty (7,9 million), joblessness, wage erosion, poor earnings by civil servants and poor remuneration crisis in the education sector. We call for

Unlawful Evictions in Uzumba and Mutoko: We unreservedly condemn the unlawful evictions of citizens in Uzumba and Mutoko to make way for Chinese mining firms without adherence to due process, the obligation to secure the rights of the villagers and the need to protect the dignity of our communities. The people’s party dispatched a leadership delegation to the affected communities to assess the socio-economic impact 
4. Persecution of Makomborero Haruzivishe and Shrinking Democratic Space: The people ‘s party unreservedly condemns the continued persecution of Makomborero Haruzivishe. Mako has been in prison for over 220 days yet he is innocent. It is not a crime to demand a better society. We call for citizens to converge in demanding that he be released from jail. The people’s leadership is further concerned at the weaponization of the court system and the continued criminalization of opposition politics, the persecution of independent journalists and civic society. Denford Ngadziore, Tatenda Johanes Karichi and Chrispen Bvirwa continue to be persecuted for peacefully protesting against unconstitutional conduct by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Consistent with our Agenda 2021, the people’s leadership urges all citizens to converge to fight against dictatorship and the introduction of unjust laws, demand alignment of laws to the Constitution and peacefully resist the attempt to entrench one-party rule. 
B. Zimbabwe Agenda 2021 
1. Citizens’ Convergence for Change: The people’s party thanks the citizens for embracing the call to converge for change as we unite to build the new. The citizens’ convergence mantra is not the name of our party but a big idea and clarion call to place citizens at the centre of all decision-making, uniting to win the nation for change and transforming people’s lives at local and community level. In this regard, the people’s leadership will continue implementing Zimbabwe Agenda 2021 plan articulated by the people’s president, Adv Nelson Chamisa at the start of the year. 
2. Rural Mobilization and Penetration Strategy: The people’s party has rolled out an intensive rural mobilization and penetration strategy. We continue to energize the rural party membership ad structures as well as championing the cause and issues of the communities in rural areas.
3. Electoral Reform Agenda: The party calls for the implementation of the electoral reforms set out in our PRICE (Principles for Reliable Inclusive and Credible Elections in Zimbabwe) document, including the alignment of the Electoral Act to the Constitution, ZEC reform including the demilitarization of the secretariat, media reform and a transparent census and delimitation process. We further demand that the stational identity document crisis be addressed urgently. 
4. Global Agenda: Following the landmark electoral victory of our sister party, the UPND in Zambia, the party continues to build solidarity and converge with other movements in the region and on the continent in line with our pan-African Global Advocacy Agenda.

MDC Alliance Speaks On Arrests, Evictions, Economic Crisis

Opposition MDC Alliance’s youth leader and pro-democracy activist Makomborero Haruzivishe is reportedly being strangled in his sleep by fellow inmates at Harare Central Prison.
The party’s spokesperson advocate Fadzayi Mahere said Haruzivishe’s lawyers have escalated the matter with the prison authorities to ensure the safety of the former ZINASU leader. Said Mahere:

We have received complaints from Makomborero Haruzivishe that he is being attacked at night by “fellow inmates” who choke him.
When he asks what is going on, they act like they are in a trance or hallucination. His lawyers are engaging the prison services to make sure he is safe.

MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Chuma said they are interpreting this as a clear attempt on Haruzivishe’s life. Said Chuma:

We have received very unfortunate reports that Makomborero Haruzivishe’s life is in danger at Harare Remand Prison.
This is a clear attempt on our comrade’s life by the regime. History has taught us that Harare Remand Prison is a guillotine for activists and opposition members, in the past we lost Learnmore Jongwe and so many cdes under unclear circumstances.
It is in that perspective that we demand for unconditional release of Mako because the regime has failed in its duty to protect him as a citizen in line with constitutional provisions and rights of prisoners.

Makomborero <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/06/watch-scenes-at-harare-magistrate-court-as-makomborero-haruzivishe-is-sentenced/">has been in prison since April serving a 14-month jail term</a> after being convicted of inciting public violence after he had demonstrated with colleagues demanding the release of ZINASU president Takudzwa Ngadziore.
The pro-democracy campaigner has pleaded his innocence and was moved from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison to Harare Central by the High Court where he is now being strangled.

Speaking on the release of the former students’ union leader, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere a law lecturer at eh the University of Zimbabwe and MDC Alliance national spokesperson said:

JUST IN: MDC's Makomborero Haruzivishe Granted Bail

Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) president Takudzwa Ngadziore has criticised MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa for his absence during activist Makomborero Haruzivishe sentencing at the Harare Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
In a tweet, Ngadziore chided Chamisa for saying (in a tweet) that he was in Zaka at a time Haruzivishe, a prominent MDC Alliance was being sentenced to 36 months in prison for whistling.
The University of Zimbabwe student said Chamisa’s failure to offer solidarity to “Mako” gives credence to the view that party activists are on their own when they are persecuted by the State. Wrote Ngadziore:

ZINASU President Criticises Chamisa, Says Activists 'Are On Their Own'

<div dir="auto">I write this after having been forced to think and reflect since the conviction of Makomborero Haruzivishe and his sentencing today. I have known Mako since my days at UZ when he was suspended for demanding SRC elections (these provided a platform for some of us to become activists as well). The guy loves justice and believes in democracy and people representation (let me turn to my story).</div>
<div dir="auto">I believe that history is instructive of the future and we can’t go forward without understanding it (NB: I have since stopped debating with people who think history is useless and now think the same of them). During the fight against colonialism in Africa leaders of that struggle were arrested and imprisoned. Hence the arrest of Mako shouldn’t worry us as much as we should be worried about a lack of strategy.</div>

<div dir="auto">As I reflected on the hopelessness of youths in Zimbabwe and the desperation for better times, I thought to ask if we are engaged in a zero-sum game or in freedom fighting. There is a lot of similarities between the material conditions of urban youths and those of youths in Rhodesia. Reading Mufuka 1977 is like reading about contemporary Zimbabwe in many ways, than one.</div>

<div dir="auto">While there is no dispute about the suffering of our people there is clearly disagreement on how to move forward. While it was clear then who the enemy was today it’s not so clear. While fighting was armed against a visible enemy now it’s confrontational and mostly political against fellow brothers with whom we differ in logic.</div>

<div dir="auto">The truthful and sincere leadership should be able to carry out pungwez detailing the role of the masses in this new struggle. The objective like that of getting land back should not be a secret or a source of disputes but there must be buy-in from the people.</div>
<div dir="auto">The ways to fight for this new freedom must be made clear for everyone to know. Are we going physical? Do we have the necessary means to go physical? Who will we be physical against? What is the source of our problem, who is our racist colonial system holding back our freedom? And how can we take back our freedom? Are we waiting for elections? And if so what’s the plan then and the role of the masses? Do they agree with what we stand for?</div>

<div dir="auto">The answers to these questions will be the difference between a zero-sum game and a fight for freedom. We have had lives lost, cdes taken away from families and some exiled. It is only fair that whatever it is we are doing is spelt out. There is no need for secrecy in an openly hostile situation.</div>

What Are We Fighting For - Tonderai Dombo On Makomborero's Sentencing

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have said MDC Alliance activist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Makomborero_Haruzivishe">Makomborero Haruzivishe</a> will appeal against the whistleblowing conviction and 36-month-long imprisonment. We present ZLHR’s statement in full below.
<blockquote>HARUZIVISHE TO APPEAL AGAINST “WHISTLEBLOWING” CONVICTION AND 36 MONTH-LONG IMPRISONMENT
HUMAN rights lawyers are working on filing an appeal against the conviction and imprisonment of prominent pro-democracy campaigner Makomborero Haruzivishe after he was imprisoned for 20 months by Harare Magistrate Judith Taruvinga on charges of inciting public violence and resisting arrest by law enforcement agents.
Magistrate Taruvinga, who on Wednesday 31 March 2021 convicted Haruzivishe, sentenced him on Tuesday 6 April 2021 to serve 36 months in jail. However, 16 months of his sentence were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence and gets convicted.
On the first count of incitement as defined in section 187 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Magistrate Taruvinga sentenced Haruzivishe to serve 24 months in prison of which 10 months were suspended for a period of five years.
On the second count of resisting a peace officer as defined in section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, the pro-democracy campaigner was sentenced to serve 12 months of which six months were suspended for a period of five years.
The 28-year-old Haruzivishe, who was represented by Kossam Ncube of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers on 5 February 2020 and charged with inciting public violence and resisting arrest by law enforcement agents.
During trial, prosecutors alleged that Haruzivishe incited some vendors to commit public violence by whistling to them when some ZRP officers were on an operation to round up informal traders in Harare’s central business district.
Haruzivishe, the prosecutors charged, also resisted arrest by some police officers who wanted to apprehend him.

Makomborero Haruzivishe To Appeal “Whistleblowing” Conviction And 36 Month-Long Imprisonment

Opposition MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe was Tuesday morning sentenced to effective 14 months in prison for incitement of violence after he had demonstrated with colleagues demanding the release of ZINASU president Takudzwa Ngadziore.
The jail term has sparked varying responses with some saying the government is just trying to silence dissent.
MDC Alliance Vice-Chairperson, Job “Wiwa” Sikhala is one of the people who have reacted to the sentencing saying the development would not stop the democratic wave. He said:
<blockquote>The jailing of <a class="link-complex" data-user-name="MakomboreroH" href="https://twitter.com/MakomboreroH/" rel="noopener user" target="_blank">@MakomboreroH</a> will never stop the wheels of change whose time has come. This is pure cowardice by a regime whose mark of a beast is oppression and human rights abuses. All progressive forces will stand with him to the bitterest end.</blockquote>
MDC Alliance Vice President, Tendai Biti just said a “very dark cloud descends on the motherland.”
Others said the sentence was just unfair because there are many people who committed grave crimes who are still walking freely. One <a href="https://twitter.com/chirimuuta78/status/1379383607127646210">Che Guevara</a> said:

While others suggested that the administration led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa was worse than that of his predecessor, the late Robert Mugabe, in terms of violating human rights, others said Zimbabweans are too forgetful.
One Albert Mashoko @mashoko_albert said Mugabe was actually worse because “he abducted and killed opposition supporters for voting against him.”
Others used the case of Itai Dzamara to justify that Mugabe was worse than Mnangagwa.
Dzamara is a Zimbabwean journalist who was allegedly abducted by suspected state security agents in 2015 after staging anti-Mugabe protests and he has never been seen since then.
Meanwhile, some said dictators will never learn from the fate of those who were there before them. One <a href="https://twitter.com/chrissoZW/status/1379383627331600391">Hon Hwende ChrissoZW</a> said:

Pro-democracy activist Makomborero Haruzivishe has been sentenced to 36 months in prison by Harare Magistrate Judith Taruvinga.
On the first count of incitement as defined in section 187 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Magistrate Taruvinga sentenced Haruzivishe to serve 24 months in prison of which 10 months were suspended for a period of five years.
On the second count of resisting a peace officer as defined in section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, the pro-democracy campaigner was sentenced to serve 12 months of which six months were suspended for a period of five years.
The MDC Alliance member and former Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) secretary-general <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/06/activists-plot-demo-at-harare-magistrates-courts/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">was convicted of the offences on Wednesday last week.</a>
After the sentencing of Haruzivishe MDC Alliance spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere told the press at Harare Magistrates court that lawyers of the accused will file an appeal. She said:
<blockquote>We have talked to his lawyers and they will definitely file an appeal this week.
We want to ensure that he gets bail pending appeal so that he spends less time incarcerated.
We all know that the conviction is extremely controversial and even the reasons for a custodial sentence.</blockquote>

Makomborero Haruzivishe Sentenced To 20 Months In Prison

The Southern Africa Youth Forum (SAYF), a Regional Coordinating Platform for Youth in SADC has said it is worried over the conviction of Makomborero Haruzivishe.
Haruzivishe was convicted on <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/01/mdc-alliance-activist-makomborero-haruzivishe-convicted-for-inciting-public-violence/">charges of resisting arrest and inciting public</a> violence and faces a possible 20 years in jail. He will be sentenced on Tuesday 6 April and his lawyer is expected to make litigation arguments before sentencing.
In a tweet, SADC Youth said it was concerned over the conviction of Makomborero Haruzivishe and called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to work together and listen to young people’s views. The tweet reads:

SADC Youth 'Concerned And Worried' Over Makomborero Haruzivishe's Conviction

A Harare Magistrate Mary Taruvinga yesterday convicted MDC Alliance Makomborero Haruzivishe on charges of inciting public violence and resisting arrest.
This was revealed by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) whose member Kossam Ncube was representing Makomborero.
ZLHR said Haruzivishe’s lawyer will argue mitigation before sentencing which will be done on Tuesday next week:

MDC Alliance Activist Makomborero Haruzivishe Convicted For Inciting Public Violence

MDC Alliance youth league member, Haruzivishe Makomborero Saturday appeared before the Harare magistrate Sheunesu Matova facing kidnapping charges.
It is alleged that the former Zimbabwe National Students Union secretary-general, together with others, forced his way into Impala Motor Spares and detained employees whom they accused of causing the arrest of their colleague Takudzwa Ngadziore last year.
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/21/investigate-the-attack-on-takudzwa-ngadziore-and-the-journalists-covering-the-presser-uk-in-zimbabwe/">Ngadziore was addressing a live presser</a> about 100 meters away from Impala Car rental when an unidentified man attacked him and his colleagues and destroyed their equipment. He was later handed over to the Police.
The state, yesterday, accused Makomborero and others of kidnapping, participating in a gathering with intent to commit public violence, and breaching peace or bigotry.
His lawyer, Obey Shava, told the court that they had complaints against the police and the manner in which his client was arrested.
Shava said Makomborero was improperly before the court and was not arrested by police officers, but by individuals in civilian clothing who refused to identify themselves upon arresting him. Shava said:
<blockquote>These individuals fired gunshots towards the accused perso. The accused was in Sunningdale when he was attending to some IT services and as he was leaving the place, two unmarked double cabs which were parked nearby, blocked his car.</blockquote>
Shava added that Makomborero disembarked from his car to inquire what was happening and the people in the cars started firing shots and ordering him to lie down.
The matter was rolled over to this Sunday (today) for continuation after indicating that he was overwhelmed.

MDC Alliance Youth Leader Arrested "For Kidnapping"

Makomborero Haruzivishe who was arrested on 29 June for allegedly taking part in a protest in Warren Park that occurred on 13 May 2020 was released on $1000 Bail by Harare Magistrate Barbra Mateko yesterday, The Zimbabwean reports.
Mako, as he is known by his friends and followers, was represented by Gift Mtisi of ZLHR after he was charged with participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace or bigotry.
It is the state’s case that:
<blockquote>Haruzivishe participated in an illegal demonstration held on 13 May 2020 in Warren Park 1 suburb in which opposition MDC-Alliance party supporters allegedly staged a flash protest against abuse of financial resources and the extension of a government enforced national lockdown by President Mnangagwa.
During the demonstration, prosecutors argued, that Haruzivishe and some protestors reportedly carried a placard inscribed “Unlock Us Before We Revolt”.</blockquote>
Haruzivishe’s arrest came a few short days after ARTUZ President Obert Masaraure was arrested for participating in an anti-government protest a few days before his arrest, he was then released on $500 bail the following day.

COURT ENDS HARUZIVISHE’S DETENTION OVER PUBLIC VIOLENCE CHARGES
HARARE Magistrate Wongai Muchuchuti on Friday 7 February 2020 ended the detention of Makomborero Haruzivishe, a pro-democracy campaigner, who was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers and charged with inciting public violence and resisting arrest by law enforcement agents.
Haruzivishe was arrested on Wednesday 5 February 2020 by some ZRP officers and charged with incitement as defined in section 187 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and resisting a peace officer as defined in section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Prosecutors alleged that Haruzivishe incited some vendors to commit public violence by whistling to them when some ZRP officers were on an operation to round up informal traders in Harare’s central business district.
Haruzivishe, the prosecutors charged, also resisted arrest by some police officers who wanted to apprehend him.
On Friday, Magistrate Muchuchuti set free Haruzivishe, who had spent two nights in police detention at Harare Central Police Station, by granting him $200 bail.
The Magistrate also ordered Haruzivishe, who was represented by Kossam Ncube of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, not to interfere with state witnesses and to continue at his given residential address.
Haruzivishe returns to court on Wednesday 20 February 2020, where his trial is scheduled to commence.
