Low-cost airline Fastjet Zimbabwe on Monday, 22 April, announced that its customers could now pay for their flight tickets using the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency.
Fastjet Zimbabwe, with routes from and to Johannesburg in South Africa and local routes from Harare to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, announced the development via its social media pages. It said:

We now accept ZiG payments for your travel. Book now via the fastjet app.
</blockquote>
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) introduced the ZiG currency on April 5 with businesses, especially supermarkets, recording a huge jump in daily sales.
The currency is backed by gold, which means its value is tied to the precious metal.
Zimbabweans were given 21 days to exchange their old, inflation-affected Zimbabwe dollar banknotes for the new ZiG currency.
However, the US dollar, South African Rand and Botswana Pula account for over 85% of transactions and will continue to be legal tender.
The RBZ’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has launched a blitz targetting businesses accused of trading exclusively in US dollars and refusing to transact in ZiG. FIU says it has has frozen bank accounts of 11 companies since the launch of ZiG.
However, fuel dealers have been granted permission to sell their products exclusively in forex, and this selective application of rules threatens to erode confidence in ZiG.

Fastjet Accepts Flight Bookings Payments In ZiG

Fastjet Zimbabwe has today, Thursday, 24 August 2023, announced the additional flight frequencies from Bulawayo’s JM Nkomo International Airport to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport in support of business and leisure travel.
Flights from Bulawayo to Johannesburg will increase from a daily service to 12 weekly flights with the re-introduction of a morning service adding a choice of frequencies and flexibility for travel between these cities. Fastjet Zimbabwe’s spokesperson Nunurai Ndawana said:

The new flights are available for booking via the Fastjet website, Mobile App and usual online trade portals.
Every day except Saturdays, there will be a 06:50 am departure from Johannesburg OR Tambo, arriving at Bulawayo at 08:10 am.
Departures from Bulawayo will be at 08:50 am, arriving in Johannesburg at 10:10 am. These flights are in addition to the daily evening return rotation between Bulawayo and Johannesburg.

Fastjet Announces Additional Frequencies From Bulawayo To Johannesburg | Full Text

Fastjet Zimbabwe has received the first of three Embraer 120, 30-seater planes.
The Embraer 120 aircraft will be used to operate domestic flights from Harare to Kariba and Hwange National Park.
Both the Harare to Hwange and Kariba routes are expected to begin on 27 March 2023.
In a statement, fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson Nunurai Ndawana said:

Fastjet Receives Embraer 120 Plane For Domestic Flights

Fastjet Zimbabwe recently announced the intention to commence air services to two new domestic leisure destinations of Kariba and Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.
Commencing late March 2023, Fastjet is set to introduce its new services from Harare and Victoria Falls to Kariba Airport and Hwange National Park Airport.
These planned additional routes to the airline’s domestic network will offer seamless connections for travellers from Harare and Victoria Falls to Zimbabwe’s top domestic tourism destinations of Kariba and Hwange, with scheduled flight connections using Embraer E120, 30-seater turboprop aircraft. Nunurai Ndawana Fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson said:

Fastjet Announces Two New Zimbabwe Routes

Fastjet was recently forced to ground one of its planes after it experienced a bird strike upon landing at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
According to a statement by the company’s Corporate Communications department, the incident contributed to the breakdown of flight schedules and travel disruptions experienced in recent days. Reads the statement:

Earlier this week, one of the airline’s aircraft was involved in a bird strike whilst on its approach into Harare, RG Mugabe International Airport, with damage requiring an outsized replacement part that needed specialised shipping to Harare.
The part was fitted yesterday in accordance with the manufacturer’s approved maintenance procedures.
The aircraft has since returned to regular service today operating the airline’s published timetable.

Fastjet apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the crisis. It said:

… [the] untimely and unforeseeable bird strike event coincided with one of the airline’s other aircraft being in scheduled maintenance which was planned in accordance with the approved maintenance programme.
These two events meant that both aircraft were out of the airline’s operational fleet simultaneously, necessitating changes to the flying programme.

Low-cost airline Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced plans to re-introduce evening flights between Bulawayo and Harare.
Fastjet currently operates daily scheduled domestic flights between Harare and Bulawayo and Harare and Victoria Falls.
Speaking during a reception for the launch of the Victoria Falls Kruger, Empumalanga route last week, Fastjet chief operating officer, Julian Edmunds, said:

Fastjet Launches Victoria Falls to KMIA Flights

Multi-award-winning African value airline, Fastjet, has warned members of the public about a fake competition being circulated on social media by scammers.
The alleged scammers are asking people to complete a questionnaire and stand a chance to win a cash prize or air tickets.
In <a href="https://twitter.com/fastjet/status/1493515895691526149">a statement</a>, Fastjet distanced itself from the purported competition and advised the public to not click on the link on the messages and to immediately delete the message and not share it with anyone. The statement read:

Fastjet is aware of a fake competition circulated on social media by scammers. The competition is requesting people to complete a questionnaire and falsely stand a chance to win a cash prize or air tickets.
Fastjet advises that recipients of such messages do not click on the link, immediately delete the message and not share with any of their friends or contacts.

In November 2022 Fastjet will celebrate its seventh successful year of operations in Zimbabwe, the company says on its website.
Fastjet continues to operate daily return services between Harare and Bulawayo, Harare, and Victoria Falls, and internationally from Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg in South Africa, which remains a popular destination choice for Fastjet customers.

Fastjet Warns Of A Fake Competition By Scammers

Fastjet Zimbabwe has confirmed that one of its planes failed to land at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo on 26 January due to power cuts.
There was no backup generator available at the airport for the plane to make a safe landing.
The airliner’s spokesperson, Nunurai Ndawana, said the plane was forced to make an emergency u-turn to Harare where passengers disembarked and waited for hours. Said Ndawana:

Fastjet Zimbabwe confirms that their flight FN8441, 26 January 2022, from Harare to Bulawayo, was unable to continue to Bulawayo’s JM Nkomo International Airport due to the Airport Authority advising the crew that there was no power at the airport.
With no power available, this could affect the landing and navigation aids typically used by the crew when approaching and landing the airport.
As the safety and comfort of our passengers and crew is our top priority, the flight crew opted to return to Harare, where customers disembarked and remained at the terminal until power was restored at Bulawayo.
The flight operated a few hours later on, with all customers reaching their final intended destination.
The flight was being operated by the airline’s ERJ 145 aircraft.

The incident was not the first time that a plane had been forced to abort its landing at Joshua Nkomo International Airport.
In December 2021, two aircraft were unable to land at the airport because airport guidance systems failed.
The two aircraft that were affected by the incident were Fastjet (again) and Air Zimbabwe.

Fastjet Zimbabwe plans to increase daily flight frequency between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg in South Africa in response to demand, starting next month. It said in a statement:

Fastjet To Increase Vic-Falls, Joburg Flights

Fastjet has announced a resumption of its flights between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg in neighbouring South Africa.
In a statement, the airliner said it was reacting to an increased interest for reliable flight connections and the return of domestic and regional tourism.
Fastjet’s 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 aircraft will operate three times a week between the two cities. The statement read:
<blockquote>Fastjet Zimbabwe is pleased to announce the recommencement of flights between Victoria Falls International Airport and OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg from Tuesday 16 March 2021.
The flights will operate thrice weekly between the two cities. We are pleased to return to this route following our temporary interruption of service on the route due to a drop in demand for leisure travel linked to the global pandemic.
As Covid-19 restrictions ease we are reacting to an increased interest for reliable flight connections on this key route particularly as domestic and regional tourism returns.</blockquote>
An additional flight will be added on Fridays based on demand, the airliner said.
Currently, Fastjet services three routes between Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls cities and regionally it offers Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg flights.

FastJet Celebrates Women's Day With All Female Crew {Full Statement}

Budget Airline Fastjet has announced that it is reintroducing the Harare Johannesburg route, and it will have daily flights between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
This was contained in a Facebook advert by the airline that was seen by Pindula which also announced a very lucrative special that will see passengers paying R1869 for a one-way trip from Joburg to Harare.
The budget airline posted the following poster on Facebook:

Fastjet Reintroduces The Harare/Joburg Route, With A Lucrative Special

FastJet Zimbabwe said that it is finalising plans for the resumption of its scheduled flights following the recent announcement by the government on the lifting of air travel restrictions.
On Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced that domestic and international flights will resume on 10 September and 1 October, respectively following months of coronavirus-induced suspension.
In a statement on Thursday, FastJet Zimbabwe said it will soon announce a revised domestic network flying programme. The statement read:
<blockquote>FastJet Zimbabwe is delighted with the latest news released by the Government of Zimbabwe on 08 September 2020 announcing the official resumption of domestic and international air transportation, approved with prescribed travel safety conditions.
Today we initiated robust discussions and are actively engaged with key stakeholders as we finalise plans for the recommencement of domestic flights between Harare and Bulawayo and Harare and Victoria Falls, following yesterday’s announcement by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting.
Whilst we deliberate on the next steps in announcing recommencement dates and a revised domestic network flying programme, we express our sincere gratitude to the respective Ministries, Authorities and Agencies for their continued efforts in preparing the travel industry to a return to operations.</blockquote>

FastJet Planning To Resume Flights

Fastjet Zimbabwe reaffirms its commitment to all customers by extending their Flexible Booking policy into 2021.
With the ongoing travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fastjet has extended their Flexible Booking Change policy until the 15th of March 2021, offering customers the added confidence when choosing to fly on any route across the airline’s network. A Fastjet official stated:
<blockquote>We understand that as traveller confidence recovers, some customers may not be ready to decide upon their next trip, or may be holding bookings they have not been able to realise yet due to the existing restrictions. In support of our customers, we have extended the flexible booking policy to both existing and new bookings, for travel up to and including the 15 March 2021.</blockquote>
Fastjet customers holding unused bookings or those who would like to book for a future travel date, up to and including the 15 March 2021 are eligible to take advantage of unlimited changes with no fees to pay, and no fare differences applied.
The Flexible Booking Change policy is essential to the “Travel With Confidence” incentive recently introduced in support of operations on the airline’s domestic and international network once air travel is permitted to resume as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is a demonstration of Fastjet’s commitment to adding flexibility and choice in support of a return to air travel.
Whilst Fastjet awaits the lifting of all air travel restrictions across its network and subsequent resumption of all flights and services, additional value-based incentives will be introduced to the “Travel with Confidence” incentive.
This is an encouraging demonstration of the airline’s commitment and support to both the wellbeing of its customers and the facilitation of local travel in Zimbabwe, in line with the domestic tourism campaign and initiative launched in July 2020.
During the period of restricted air travel, Fastjet Zimbabwe continues to operate repatriation flights between Harare, Zimbabwe and Johannesburg, South Africa in accordance with the regulatory guidelines of the respective Government Agencies.

Fastjet Zimbabwe Extends Flexible Booking Change Policy

FastJet is offering one-way flights to Zimbabwean citizens from Johannesburg to Harare during the lockdown period. Below is a statement from the airline on how one can apply for a flight:

your interest for a flight we list below the details that we require from you.

<li>How much does it cost? – Our fares are subject to change, however, to provide you with an approximate idea we expect that a one-way fare from Johannesburg to Harare to be US$385 per adult or child. Infants are US$60. These are inclusive of taxes and a bus from the designated meeting point to the airport. Fare prices are higher than what we would normally charge because our flights are only operating with passengers in one direction. In the opposite direction, the aircraft flies only with the crew. Whereas we are committed to helping people get home, we do need to cover all costs.</li>
<li>How much luggage can I take? – 1 x 23kg suitcase + 1 x 7kg hand luggage There can be NO LIQUIDS 
AT ALL in your hand Luggage.</li>
<li>What measures are being taken to protect passengers from possible transmission of COVID-19? – All passengers will be pre-screened for temperature and symptoms and you will be required to hand sanitise many times during the journey and flight process. You will also be required to wear a mask for the duration of the flight. FastJet Providing Repatriation Flights From Johannesburg To Harare... Here Is How To Apply

Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced that it will extend the suspension of its schedule flight network until Tuesday, 30 June 2020 following the indefinite extension of the coronavirus lockdown by the Zimbabwean government.
In a statement released on Monday, the airliner also announced that its Call Centre, Shops, Airport Ticket Sales and Trade Support services will remain closed until further notice.
Below is the statement in full:
<blockquote>Following the latest updates from the Zimbabwean government regarding the continued COVID-19 related travel restrictions, Fastjet Zimbabwe will extend the suspension of their schedule flight network until Tuesday, 30 June 2020.
Given the unprecedented nature of the external factors that the travel industry is facing, our management team continue to assess the situation on a daily basis and remain committed to resuming flight services earlier than the revised date should there be any easing of the current restrictions on the movement of people.
Our flexible booking change policy allows confirmed bookings to be changed to future dates, with no fees or fare differences applicable.
This no fee or fare difference unlimited booking policy is currently available until 30 September 2020.

Fastjet Zimbabwe Suspends Flights Until June 30

A Fastjet plane failed to take-off at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday after it ran out of fuel because it took too long taxiing on the runway.
A passenger aboard the plane who spoke to Zimlive on condition of anonymity had this to say:
<blockquote>The plane left its parking bay and went to the taxiway. The pilot came on and told us that we would take off after a plane which was visible to our left had taken off.
That plane took-off after a few minutes. Then as we were expecting our turn to take-off, we were then informed that the plane had run out of fuel.
We waited another eight minutes for the fuel truck. The refuelling took about three minutes. A bus then turned up and they took us back to the terminal building. We waited there a little while and then they took us back to the plane.</blockquote>
The plane, an Embraer ERJ-145LU, flying as flight FN8332 was bound for Harare.
In a brief statement on Twitter after the fiasco, FastJet confirmed the development, saying that the extended taxiway delay had an impact on the fuel requirement of the aircraft.

FastJet Plane Fails To Take-off After Fuel Is Depleted On Runway

FastJet Launches Bulawayo-Jo'burg Flights For Every Weekday {Full Text}

Budget airline FastJet Group has announced that it’s selling its Zimbabwean business. Fastjet Zim will be bought by a consortium led by its major shareholder Solenta Aviation for US $8 million. Some Zimbabweans as said to be part of the consortium.
Said Fastjet in a notice:
<blockquote>“fastjet Zimbabwe has increased its year on year revenue despite the difficult trading conditions following the introduction of a new currency which effectively devalued the existing currency by up to 15 times its previous value at official rates and has pushed inflation rates to above 200%,”</blockquote>
Fastjet said if the restructuring plans do not pan out by the end of February, the Africa-focussed company would not be able to continue trading as a going concern.
<a data-fg-enrichment-box="news" data-fg-organisationid="335258" data-fg-organisationname="Fastjet Group">Fastjet Group</a> would be given the option of returning as a shareholder by re-acquiring its stake in the Zimbabwean operation within three to five years.

Fastjet To Sell Zimbabwe Business To South African Airline For US$8m

A Fastjet plane developed a technical fault halfway through the journey on its flight from Harare to Bulawayo on Wednesday morning.
Procurement Authority of Zimbabwe chief executive officer Nyasha Chizu revealed the incident to Sunday News. He said:
<blockquote>We had left at 7 am which meant we were supposed to get to Bulawayo at 7.50am but when we were 30 minutes into our flight we were told that there was a fault and we had to turn back to Harare.
We were told that the plane would need technical help that it could not get to Bulawayo.
About 10 minutes after we were told that we were going back to Harare we were again informed that the plane would once again head to Bulawayo as the technical problem could now be solved there.
They said that someone on the phone in Harare would relay instructions to the ground staff in Bulawayo.
… On Friday evening we were supposed to depart at 8.25am but were told that the plane had gone back to Harare because of a fault. So we departed at 12.30am and arrived in Harare at 1.30am.</blockquote>
Fastjet notified its customers of Friday’s delayed flight to Harare. In a letter given to passengers head of ground operations Pasi Chirume read in part:
<blockquote>We regret to advise you that your flight FN8446 from Joshua Nkomo International to R G Mugabe has been delayed.
The reason for the delay is due to the aircraft scheduled to operate your route suffered a technical problem.
for 00.30 20 July 2019 and arrive at 01.20 estimated time.
In the meantime, you shall be offered refreshments while you wait for your flight to depart.
The safety and well-being of our passengers is our number one priority hence our decision.</blockquote>

Fastjet Passengers In Mid-air Scare

Budget airline Fastjet has warned that it may not be “able to continue trading as going concern” unless it obtains new funding. The airline said that it has just $3.3m in cash.  However,  $1.75m of this amount is held in Zimbabwe and is not readily accessible due to foreign currency shortages. The companies shares plummeted on Wednesday by 72 percent after investors heard the warning. The company said that it was talking to its major shareholder in order to raise more money. In a statement the company said,
<blockquote>Whilst initial discussions with certain shareholders have been positive, discussions are ongoing and there can be no guarantee of a successful outcome.</blockquote>
Fastjet flies in several African countries including South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
