<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Siphosami_Malunga">Siphosami Malunga</a>, a human rights activist and the executive director of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) has claimed that former Mines Minister, Obert Mpofu took all their farm produce when he invaded Esidaken Farm.
Mpofu invaded the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Esidakeni_Farm">Esidakeni farm</a>, also known as Keshelmar Farm in Nyamandlovu, Matabeleland North province and has since been ordered by courts to leave the farm.
The farm is part-owned by rights lawyer Siphosami Malunga, the son of the late PF ZAPU stalwart and national hero, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sydney_Malunga">Sydney Malunga</a>, Charles Moyo and Zephania Dhlamini. 
Malunga said they were about to harvest their crops when Mpofu chased them out of the farm. He said:

When @DrObertMpofu invaded our farm #Esidakeni and chased us out and installed armed guards we had just started to harvest our 800tonnes of onion; 200tonnes of butternut with 75000 cabbages almost ready to harvest. He took it all. Everything!

Commentators said it was not surprising that Mpofu was a “thief” considering that Zimbabwe allegedly lost US$15 billion through diamond leakages when the ZANU PF secretary for administration was minister of Mines and Mining Development.
Former Mines Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Walter_Chidhakwa">Walter Chidhakwa</a> earlier said an investigation into the case was stalled by inaccessibility to relevant information from firms that used to extract diamonds in Chiadzwa.

Esidakeni Farm Wrangle: Mpofu Took All Our Farm Produce - Siphosami Malunga

In a report, the Temba Mliswa chaired Mines Parliamentary Portfolio Committee told Parliament’s last sitting on Thursday that it was now clear that the country would not recover its $15 billion missing diamonds revenue. 
This comes after former Mines ministry secretary Francis Gudyanga MPs said that the syndicates involved will ensure the truth does not come out. Current Mines ministry secretary Munesuishe Munodawafa also told the committee that Auditor-General (AG) Mildred Chiri had been engaged to conduct a forensic audit on the joint venture companies, but failed to locate them. Part of the report reads:
<blockquote>The former Mines secretary, Gudyanga informed the committee that the truth will never come out on the missing diamond revenues. He stated that: ‘when it comes to diamonds, there are syndicates that are very sophisticated in the country and outside the country and many people get involved. "Zimbabwe Won't Recover Missing $15 Billion Diamonds Revenue"

Mines and Energy portfolio committee chairperson, Temba Mliswa is optmistic that former President Robert Mugabe will attend a hearing meant to answer questions on the allegations he made that Zimbabwe lost $15 billion in diamond revenue.
Despite being served with letters inviting him, Mugabe has failed to appear before the committee and clarify claims he made in 2016. Speaking to The Herald, Clerk of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Chokuda said Mugabe had not confirmed if he will appear today. However Mliswa is confident Mugabe will appear today. Said Mliswa:
<blockquote>We expect him to have time to appear before Parliament. We expect him to co-operate and Parliament has power to summon anyone. I think he will comply because he is a man who understands the Constitution and he is our statesman. In view of the time, we have resolved that we will write to Mugabe to appear before us at 2pm, taking into cognisance the fact that 9am was too early because when he was in office, he would do Cabinet meetings late in the afternoon at 2pm.</blockquote>

Mliswa Optimistic Mugabe Will Attend Missing $15 Billion Hearing

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Mining Development chaired by Norton MP Temba Mliswa has summoned former president Robert Mugabe to answer questions on the missing $15 billion diamond revenue.
Mugabe is expected to appear before the committee on Wednesday 23 May. Mliswa told NewsDay that the committee is willing to conduct the hearing at Mugabe’s Blue Roof residence in Borrowdale.
Several top government officials have already been questioned over the matter. These include former Mines ministers Obert Mpofu, and Walter Chidakwa, ex-State security ministers Didymus Mutasa and Sydney Sekeramai, former Home Affairs minister Ignatious Chombo and Central Intelligence Organisation, police and army bosses.

Mugabe Summoned Over Missing $15 Billion Diamond Revenue

Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy  chairperson Temba Mliswa said they are prepared to meet former President Robert Mugabe at his Blue Roof residence in Borrowdale so that he answers questions on the missing $15 billion diamond revenue.
Mliswa said it was now up to Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda to make a formal request to Mugabe. Said Mliswa:
<blockquote>Parliament is prepared to give the former Head of State respect and to meet him at his Blue Roof mansion because he is old. It is now up to the Parliament administration to get communication to Mugabe because his evidence will be critical in terms of us concluding our report. We need to do that before Parliament is dissolved for the 2018 general elections. As a committee, we can go to Mugabe’s house to meet him there to respect his age.</blockquote>

Norton MP Temba Mliswa said former President Robert Mugabe will not appear before the Parliamentary committee on Mines today to answer questions on diamond mining operations after the clerk of Parliament did not write to Mugabe to invite him to appear.

The Mliswa led committee wants Mugabe to answer questions over his previous pronouncements that Zimbabwe lost $15 billion from the Marange diamond fields.

Parliament Postpones Mugabe Questioning Over Missing 15 Billion Diamond Revenue Claims

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Mining Development yesterday summoned former President Robert Mugabe to appear before it on May 9 to explain a claim he made in 2016 that Zimbabwe could have been prejudiced of more than $15 billion in unrealised diamond revenue from Chiadzwa. They also invited former Vice President Joice Mujuru to explain reports linking her to diamond mining in the area.
In an interview with The Chronicle yesterday, Norton MP Mr Temba Mliswa said his committee decided to call Mugabe to explain how the leakages occurred or how he came about the figure. Said Mliswa:
<blockquote>We met today as a committee and resolved that we invite former President Mr Mugabe to our committee to explain the disappearance of the $15 billion worth of diamonds. We have set May 9 as the date on which he will give evidence. It is a resolution that we made long ago, but we first wanted to receive evidence from other State institutions to determine whether it is necessary or not to invite him. After gathering all evidence, it was the committee’s view that we call the former Head of State and Government. The committee has also resolved to invite Mai Mujuru.</blockquote>

Parliament Summons Mujuru, Mugabe Over Missing $15 Billion Diamond Revenue

Speaking before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy which is investigating allegations by former President Robert Mugabe that Zimbabwe could have lost $15 billion in diamond revenue, Defence secretary Martin Rushwaya said the claims may have been made by officials seeking to justify the closure of diamond mines in the Chiadzwa fields and the consolidation of operations under the state-owned Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company.
Said Rushwaya:
<blockquote>When Mugabe announced the issue of the $15 billion, we said to our colleagues from the Mines Ministry that they must come up with an explanation and asked who gave Mugabe those figures but nobody came out. Obviously, whoever gave the figures was someone mischievous and with an ulterior motive, maybe to justify consolidation of diamond mines in Chiadzwa because there was no scientific evidence that there are $15 billion worth of diamonds in Chiadzwa. It is difficult to reach $14 billion diamond output the world over in a year.</blockquote>

Claims Zim Lost $15 Billion Were Made As A Cover Up Says Defence Secretary

In an interview with The Chronicle, Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy chairperson Temba Mliswa said they have summoned Vice President Kembo Mohadi in his capacity as former State Security as well as Home Affairs Minister, former Defence Minister Dr Sydney Sekeramayi and former State Security and Presidential Affairs Minister, Mr Didymus Mutasa to answer questions on the alleged disappearance of $15 billion worth of diamonds from Chiadzwa. The three are expected to appear before the Committee on Monday next week.
Mliswa said the summoning of current and former high ranking government officials does not mean they are guilty, but is only part of investigations. He also said the Committee is working to conclude investigations and come up with recommendations. Said Mliswa:
<blockquote>So we have asked for the former Minister of Home Affairs now Vice President Mohadi, former Minister State Security as well as Presidential Affairs Didymus Mutasa and the former Minister of Defence Sydney Sekeramayi. We are not saying that they are guilty but we would like to find out whether they knew about the concessions and who was running the concessions because all this information is very necessary. They have been summoned, they have received letters already and its done. VP Mohadi, Dr Sekeramayi and Didymus Mutasa have received their letters. They are definitely coming.</blockquote>

Kembo Mohadi Summoned Over Missing $15 Billion

In an interview with The Chronicle, Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda said the National Assembly will make a resolution on the Minister of Home Affairs and Culture, Obert Mpofu’s refusal to answer questions on the missing $15 billion from diamond revenues when he appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy.
Said Mudenda:
<blockquote>We’re still looking into the matter in terms of the provisions of the standing rules and orders as well as the provisions of the national constitution. We’re also waiting for a report from the committee. After that we’ll then be able to map the way forward.</blockquote>
Mpofu refused to answer questions relating to his tenure as Minister of Mines arguing among other reasons, that he has moved to a new portfolio.

Parly To Rule On Obert Mpofu's Refusal To Answer Questions On Missing $15 Billion

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy has summoned current and former high ranking government officials to answer questions on missing diamond revenues which were estimated to be worth $15 Billion by former president Robert Mugabe. The committee is chaired by the independent legislator for Norton, Temba Mliswa. Some of the officials who have been summoned are former mines ministers Obert Gutu and Walter Chidhakwa, former finance minister Ignatius Chombo and former commissioner-general of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Augustine Chihuri.
Speaking to the Daily News, Mliswa said:
<blockquote>We have invited the minister (Mpofu) to come on Monday to appear before the committee to give an insight into what could have transpired not only regarding the missing $15 billion but also to explain issues around how licences were given to mining companies and what the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC)’s role was in all this.
After him, Chidakwa will also appear along with (officials from) the diamond mines (that operated in Chiadzwa) and people such as Ignatius Chombo and others, including Chihuri whose names have been mentioned regarding diamond money.
There are many people who were involved in diamond mining and the responsible ministers during this time were Mpofu and Chidakwa . . . and they should be able to help shed light on the diamond operations</blockquote>

Mpofu, Chombo, Chihuri Summoned To Parly Over $15 Billion Diamond Revenue

Mabvuku Tafara MP. James Maridadi has said that Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa must be exorcised of ghosts visiting him at night after he dismissed the $15 billion figure being thrown around as the amount of the missing diamond revenue.
In an interview with NewsDay senior Parliamentary reporter Veneranda Langa (ND), Maridadi (JM) said Chinamasa must give the exact figure rather than just dismiss the $15 billion one put forward by former president Robert Mugabe. Below is an excerpt of the interview:
<blockquote>ND: Chinamasa also went on to say that the $15 billion figure being thrown around as the amount of the missing diamonds is overstated. You were one of the MPs who blasted Chinamasa for his defence. Why?
JM: I do not know what has gotten into Chinamasa and why he is taking it upon himself to defend the indefensible. He must be exorcised of ghosts visiting him at night because people did not dream of that figure. It is a figure which was presented to us by former President Robert Mugabe. When Mugabe presented the figure Chinamasa failed to immediately say that it was a wrong figure, and so why is he doing it now? He is even failing to give us an alternative figure to account for the missing diamonds. We cannot allow that, he (Chinamasa) must bring the correct figure. If I had my way I would tell Chinamasa to do what is in his mandate and stop defending the indefensible.</blockquote>

"Chinamasa Must Be Exorcised Of Ghosts Visiting Him At Night"

MDC-T vice president Nelson Chamisa has claimed that he was misquoted by the media when he was reported to have said that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/01/29/trump-promised-us15-billion-win-elections-chamisa/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">United States president Donald Trump had promised the opposition US$15 Billion in the event that they won the 2018 Elections.</a> The United States has since distanced itself from the statement and the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/02/04/mdc-alliance-apologises-us-govt-nelson-chamisas-us15-billion-claim/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">MDC Alliance is reported to have apologised to United States ambassador to Zimbabwe Henry K Thomas Jr</a>.
In an effort to clear up the issue, Chamisa said:
<blockquote>Last week I was misquoted by a number of people (on the US$15 billion claim). We did a report and we realized that we need about $US14.9 billion which we rounded off to US$15 billion, for the country to have proper infrastructure. That is what people did not fully understand.
We found out that our infrastructure needs that amount of money which will be used , mainly, in repairing roads. That money will only come if we look for friends and add them to the ones we have.
We have friends who help us in times of need and those are the ones who will help us to raise that money after we win the elections.</blockquote>

I Was Misquoted, Chamisa Makes U-turn On US$15 Billion Claim

The opposition coalition, the MDC Alliance is reported to have apologised to the United States government for statements made by MDC-T vice president Nelson Chamisa. S<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/01/29/trump-promised-us15-billion-win-elections-chamisa/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">peaking at a rally in Mutare, Chamisa claimed that the opposition had been promised US$15 billion by United States president Donald Trump when they won the 2018 elections</a>. However, the United States Department of State has since <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/01/31/us-denies-chamisas-claim-trump-will-unveil-15-billion-mdc-alliance-wins-elections/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">distanced itself from the claim saying that it does not side in electoral matters.</a>
The weekly publication, the Standard, reports that the MDC Alliance sent a delegation to apologise to United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Harry Thomas Jnr. However, Chamisa was not part of the delegation although it is expected that he will make an apology in person. An official who spoke to the Standard said:
<blockquote>Concern was raised by the American Department of State to the MDC-T alliance. Some principals tried to get Chamisa to go along to the embassy to apologise but he was elusive. They went alone without Chamisa and apologised.</blockquote>

MDC Alliance Apologises To US Govt Over Nelson Chamisa's US$15 Billion Claim

Outspoken member of parliament for Norton, Temba Mliswa has challenged Minister of Home Affairs Obert to disclose how he became so wealthy. According to Mliswa, he will quit politics if Mpofu reveals his secrets for accumulating so much wealth. Mliswa made the claims on ZiFM’s The Platform – Ask The MP Programme on Tuesday night. Earlier on during the programme, Mliswa said that no one was beyond the law and actually went as far as singling out Minister Mpofu as the prime suspect in the alleged theft of US$15 billion in diamond revenue, as he was the Minister of Mines and Mining Development at that time. Mpofu has often been accused of massive corruption although he is yet to be arrested or convicted. Said Mliswa
<blockquote>There is no one who is untouchable or cannot be brought before Parliamentary Committees or the courts. There is no one who is untouchable if Mugabe was touched then who cannot be touched by Parliament

Mliswa who is the chairperson of the Parliamentary Mines and Energy Portfolio Committee also said that he was going to fully investigate and ascertain the true value of the revenue which Zimbabwe was prejudiced of. Mliswa also seemingly dismissed presidential spokesperson George Charamba’s claim that former president Robert Mugabe had made up the  <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/01/14/charamba-claims-missing-15-billion-made-mugabe-order-control-diamonds/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">US$15 billion figure for maximum effect in order to reclaim the diamond fields.</a> Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Patrick Chinamasa also told legislators the same, saying that when<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/01/23/engage-brains-please-zimbabwe-not-lose-us15-billion-diamond-revenue-chinamasa-tells-parliament/" rel="noopener" target="_blank"> Mugabe mentioned the US$5 billion he was speaking figuratively and not literally</a>.  Said Mliswa

I Will Quit Politics Once I Know How Obert Mpofu Got So Wealthy: Temba Mliswa

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Patrick Chinamasa has rubbished claims that Zimbabwe lost US$15 billion in potential diamond revenue. The $15 billion figure was first used by former President Robert Mugabe in an interview and seems to have been taken literally by some. However, Chinamasa dismissed the amount saying that it had been used figuratively and that Zimbabweans should be rational when discussing the issue. Speaking in Parliament, Chinamasa said:
<blockquote>Allow me to lay this analysis, which sets out who is the key diamond producer and what the annual production per carat and the value is so that we can make our own judgments as to whether or not we are basically saying $15 billion worth of diamonds which did not exist was stolen.
“I just want us to engage our brains; please it does not matter who said what. Let us engage our brain and see what is true and what is not. Do not misread the former president who was speaking figuratively. I am not saying in any way that there may not have been an abuse.
So, how do we, when we are not producing end up saying $15 billion has been stolen? I just want us to understand this, take your time to go through these figures and please let us not switch off our minds when we are considering national issues.</blockquote>
Chinamasa was echoing the same sentiments which were initially aired by George Charamba, the spokesperson for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and former president Robert Mugabe who once said the $15 billion figure was made up by Mugabe for emphasis. Writing as Nathaniel Manheru in January 2017, Charamba wrote
<blockquote>I have a great disclosure to make, even then at the risk of contravening a sacred Act I signed and am sworn to. What is more, a disclosure that risks blowing my cover as a columnist — by now yet another illusion!
Here I go: It’s a fine Monday morning, and we are having a prayer with the Great One. Then a great conversation started: “Sir, this claim that we lost $15bn-worth of diamonds?”
Great, cacophonous laughter from The Great One. “What $15bn, young man? What was the value of rough diamonds traded worldwide last year?”Another roaring laughter! “About $14 comma something billion, Sir!”
“So-ooo!?”   Yet another round of reckless laughter. Then the bombshell: “Figure yandakangotaura zvangu kuti zvityise, (Just a figure that i made up for emphasis) kikikiki!”
 “Ahh shefu, zvino mativambira neOpposition!” (But Boss, you were giving the opposition ammunition)
More laughter! “Hameno zvako (Bad for you), that’s for you to deal with. I wanted to dramatise the need for us to take total control of our Diamond resource; to ensure full accountability of its exploitation, and I achieved the national focus I wanted. The change that’s necessary. Where else in the world is a strategic mineral reposed in foreigners? Where? Zvimwewo izvo zvava zvako (The rest is on you)!” Another round of laughter, even more raucous. Palaver finish!</blockquote>

Responding to questions in Parliament last week, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said former president Robert Mugabe’s statement that Zimbabwe lost $15 billion in diamond revenue was interpreted wrongly.
Chinamasa said the figure mentioned by Mugabe was figurative. Said Chinamasa:
<blockquote>On diamonds Mr. Speaker Sir, I want to take this opportunity to say something about the $15 billion diamonds. I hope Parliament will permit me to lay on the table some calculations that have been done. I want Hon. Members on this issue to engage their brain, let us engage our brain. When that figure was mentioned, I think it was explained that it was a figurative speech. I think when I look at the analysis of the world diamond sector, it is clear that there is no way $15 billion worth of diamonds would come from Zimbabwe because the entire value of the industry is $15 billion and we are just a speck in terms of production of diamonds.
Mr. Speaker Sir, allow me to lay this analysis, which sets out who are the key diamond producers and what is annual production per carat and the value so that we can make our own judgments as to whether or not we are basically saying $15 billion worth of diamonds which did not exist were stolen-no, I just want us to engage our brains, please it does not matter who said what. Let us engage our brain and see what is true and what is not. Do not misread the former President who was speaking figuratively. I am not saying in any way that there may not have been an abuse, but to say that when we are a speck.
The biggest diamond producers are Russia and Botswana I think Botswana itself, we are talking about $2 billion. So, when there is a $2 billion industry, how do we, when we are not producing end up saying $15 billion has been stolen? I just want us to understand this, take your time to go through these figures and please let us not switch off our minds when we are considering national issues</blockquote>

Govt Dismisses Mugabe's Claims That $15 Billion Worth Of Diamonds Was Stolen

Oppah Muchinguri has claimed that the G40 faction is responsible for looting diamondsin Chiadzwa. She called on the immediate arrest of members of the Zanu-PF faction.
Muchinguri said this while addressing delegates who attended the Zanu PF provincial co-ordinating committee meeting in Mutare on Sunday. Said Muchinguri:
<blockquote>Following the unfolding events in Zanu PF, we all know that we now have a new leadership and let’s now unite and develop our province and country. Let’s all fight for development and guard against criminals. We should protect what is ours. We should not just look and remain quiet seeing our diamonds being plundered by criminal elements from the G40. That must not happen again. We don’t want such elements in our party and government. It is now the duty of everyone here to work hard to build our province and nation. When we see things (corruption) going on, let’s alert each other and make amends there and then, rather than waiting for the rot to continue as what has been going on in the party.</blockquote>

"G40 responsible for looting diamonds in Chiadzwa"

Minister of mines and mining development, Walter Chidhakwa has said that so far auditors have no idea what happened to the government’s missing $15 billion diamond revenues. This is due to the fact that the auditors are finding it difficult to access the relevant information what will allow them to trace the funds. Chidhakwa said this when he was responding to a question from Midlands Senator Lillian Timveous, who wanted to know the progress made by the government in tracing the missing funds. Chidhakwa said:
<blockquote>There have been three teams (of auditors) from three companies that we appointed and, as a result, they have been working and the last report that we got was that they were having difficulties with accessing information.
The contracted companies would not have unfettered access to information that was required because the companies, which they wanted to do forensic audits on were in fact before the courts.
We restarted the activity for some of the companies once the court cases had been decided upon and we realised that issues of information still remained a problem. We have now opted for the use of technology to access information and be able to establish exactly how much was moved from the ground, and from there we will work out how many diamonds were lost in the process.</blockquote>

Auditors failing to access information on what happened to 'missing' USD15 billion diamond money : Minister

While answering a question during a plenary session at a mining indaba in Bulawayo, Mines and Minerals Development Minister Walter Chidhakwa said that Government has not abandoned investigations into missing $15 billion from Chiadzwa diamond fields in Manicaland.
He could not however disclose methods that are being used to determine how much was lost. Said Chidhakwa:
<blockquote>The technical people we consulted have said we can use a different way of establishing what was mined in Marange. We discussed and agreed. I am not at liberty to disclose that now and that is the method we are going to use. So we have not abandoned the issue of establishing what happened but I am happy that we have enabled ourselves to move ahead and do something in Marange.</blockquote>

While responding to questions from senators on Thursday, Mines and Mining Development Minister Walter Chidhakwa said that the government audit into the disappearance of diamonds worth billions of dollars in Marange has been stalled by court challenges and inaccessibility to relevant information from firms that used to extract diamonds in Chiadzwa.
He was responding to Midlands Senator Lillian Timveous (MDC-T) who had asked what his ministry was doing to account for the $15 billion which President Mugabe revealed was lost in Marange. Said Chidhakwa:
