A 20-year-old woman was raped by an unidentified kombi driver and his conductor after she had boarded their vehicle on Sunday.
Posting on their Twitter page, police said the suspects gave their would-be victim a lift at 6 PM in a white kombi at Mbudzi Roundabout and proceeded to the Ushewokunze area in Harare where they took turns to rape her. Police said:

The ZRP is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of a kombi driver and his conductor who gang-raped a 20-year-old woman in the Ushewokunze area, Harare, after giving her a lift at 1801hrs in a white kombi at Mbudzi Roundabout.

In an unrelated incident, a group of armed robbers consisting of 14 men and a woman stole US$40 000, ZWL$20 000 and a pistol among other items from a house in Chitungwiza. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating a robbery case that occurred in Chitungwiza where 14 unknown men and a woman, armed with machetes, knobkerries and hammers pounced at a house in Manyame Park and assaulted the security guard who was on duty at the premises.
The suspects blasted the complainant’s bedroom window with dynamite and attacked the complainant, who was in bed with his wife and demanded cash.
They stole US$40 000, Z$20 000, six cellphones, a pistol with an empty magazine, car keys for an Isuzu KB300 and a Honda Fit vehicle.

Kombi Crew Rape Woman (20) In Ushewokunze

Full statement by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the shooting incident along the Masvingo Beitbridge Road.

<h2>SHOOTING INCIDENT AT 279KM PEG MASVINGO BEITBRIDGE ROAD</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Zakaria Ncube (41) and Brianmax Tom Mudau (26) in connection with a robbery case that occurred at MC Compound, Chikombedzi, Chiredzi on 29th March 2022 at around 0145 hours.
The suspects, together with others who are still at large were seen being dropped from a silver Honda Fit vehicle registration number AFL 9425 at Chikombedzi Business Centre by a security guard who had observed some suspicious movements.
The suspects later stormed the complainant’s house where they attacked a local businessman and his wife. They threatened to shoot them with an unidentified pistol while demanding cash.
The suspects ransacked the house and stole a wallet containing US$1 000-00, ZAR8 000-00, bank cards, Huawei cellphone, P37 Itel, Samsung A11 cellphone and a Nissan Caravan vehicle (AFU 4903).
A report was made at ZRP Chikombedzi before Police reacted swiftly and tracked the suspects leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle which was dumped about 40km from the crime scene towards Rutenga.
On the same date at around 0540 hours, the suspects who were using the same Honda Fit vehicle were stopped at a Police checkpoint at the 297km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.
The driver was signalled to stop but did not comply and instead circumvented the roadblock barriers prompting Police to shoot the vehicle after firing warning shots.
As a result of the shootout, one suspect was injured on the left shoulder and was later arrested as he sought medical attention at Beitbridge District Hospital.
Investigations by Police led to the arrest of Brianmax Tom Mudau and the recovery of the Honda Fit vehicle at Mudhau Shopping Centre, Beitbridge.
Police recovered ZAR8 070 and USD205 on the seat, and a yet to be identified body on the back seat of the vehicle.
A pistol with obliterated serial numbers and a magazine of 8 rounds was recovered on the body’s waist belt.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has made it clear that those who commit crimes will be arrested.
Police crack teams are on full alert and will deal decisively with criminal elements. 
Meanwhile, Police are working around the clock to account for all notorious robbers who are maiming, killing and taking away people’s property through violent acts.

Armed Robber Killed In Police Shootout | ZRP Full Statement

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa’s right hand is set to be amputated.
A specialist trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, Dr John Nyahunzvi, recommended amputation for Marry’s right hand above her elbow due to severe sepsis syndrome, non-healing ulcer and chronic osteomyelitis. He said:

I had the pleasure of assessing Marry Mubaws on behalf of my senior colleague Mr Mthethwa. She is 5 weeks post revision surgery for a right humerus shaft re-fracture.
Her current condition is critical life-threatening) and has necessitated hospitalization and stabilisation with a plan for emergent right high above elbow amputation as soon as she is deemed medically stable.
She has severe sepsis secondary to deep infection after revision Surgery to fix a re-fracture of the right humerus shaft against a background of chronic sepsis in her forearm.
Careful inpatient clinical management of her current state is required, and a multidisciplinary team is in attendance.

Marry’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, told the court on Tuesday that her client is in a serious condition and is due for amputation of her right arm, reported <a href="https://twitter.com/NewsHawksLive/status/1508782493792718852">The NewsHawks</a>.
The 40-year-old model, who has been denied permission to access treatment outside the country, collapsed at the court on Monday after previous similar collapses.

Marry Mubaiwa’s Right Hand Set To Be Amputated

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that it arrested over one million six hundred people between 30 March 2020 and 27 March 2022.
Zimbabwe recorded the first case of coronavirus in March 2020 forcing authorities to impose lockdowns and other stringent measures meant to curb the spread of the respiratory disease.
Some of the measures include wearing facemasks, maintaining social distancing. Individuals who were not considered “essential services” were barred from getting into towns while intercity travelling was suspended for some time. In a statement, seen by Pindula News, police said:

The ZRP reports that on 27/03/22, 1 646 people were arrested for violating COVID-19 related offences. The cumulative number of arrests since 30/03/20 stands at 1 613 796. 
</blockquote>
Coronavirus cases in the country have been going down in recent weeks. 
Authorities continue to warn members of the public against complacency saying that will likely trigger another wave of the coronavirus.
 The police also reported that 96 people were arrested on operation ‘No to Machete Gangs’, bringing the cumulative arrests to 13 752 since 1 January 2022. 
Meanwhile, 512 people were arrested on operation ‘No to Cross Border Crimes’ bringing the cumulative number of arrests since the 1st of January this year to 132 206.
The police also reported that 203 arrests were made under the ongoing operation targeting unlicensed and unregistered motor vehicles, bringing the cumulative arrests to 45 101.

Police Arrest 1.6 Million People, Since 2020, For Violating COVID-19 Measures

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of one Digoo Matsvange who was masquerading as a police officer.
In a statement, seen by Pindula News, ZRP said Matsvabge was arrested in Bulawayo on Friday while investigating a case of theft. Reads the police statement:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of Digoo Matsvange (49) on 25/03/22 for impersonating a member of the ZRP at Harcourt Flat, Bulawayo.
The suspect identified himself a detective from Harare who was investigating a case of theft involving a lady who resides at the same flat before a police officer residing at the flat asked for his particulars and arrested him.
</blockquote>
Reports of people impersonating public authorities are not new.
In many cases, the impersonators do it to commit crimes, evade responsibility and so forth.

Fake Cop Arrested While Investigating A Case Of Theft

Data records have indicated that cellphones owned by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri never left Harare on the day they claim to have been abducted.
During re-examination by the State, Engineer Tapera Christopher Kazembe said on the day the CCC activists claimed to have been abducted, there were no records of calls from a location outside Harare.
He added that there was user usage on the cellphones considering the volumes of data that was recorded on call date records. 
Asked prosecutor Mr Michael Reza:

On the documents which you prepared, was there evidence that from 2pm and 10pm, the cellphones never left Harare or the urban area?
</blockquote>
Eng Kazembe replied: 
<blockquote>
On the call records, from time of 2 pm up to 10 pm on the 13th of May, there is no record of call made out of area of Harare. The mobile phones did not leave Harare.
</blockquote>
The State accuses Mamombe, Chimbiri and Netsai Marova of faking their own abduction to soil the image of the government. 
The trio went missing in Warren Park on Wednesday 13 May after they were reportedly abducted during a flash protest. 
  
Police initially alleged that they had arrested the three but later denied that the three were in custody. The trio claims that suspected state security agents abducted them from police custody, sexually abused them and dumped them in Bindura.
Mamombe and Chimbiri are expected to be back in court on March 31 when chief magistrate Mrs Mushure makes a ruling on the State’s application to recall its witness.

New Twist To Mamombe, Chimbiri Abduction Case

Four Zimbabweans were shot dead in a shootout with South African police after they tried to rob a shop at Stoneridge Mall in Johannesburg.
One of the armed robbers killed is 27-year-old Everjoy Ndlovu from Mlomwe, Plumtree. He was wanted by South African police for a series of armed robberies.
Ndlovu’s uncle, Thaba Nleya, confirmed the incident after going to see the body. Nleya said:

It’s true, we have seen the body, his death is the one that is shocking. As for him being an armed robber, we knew that our nephew was into that.
We warned him many times to leave it but he continued.
We are collecting money from family members and our friends to try and transport his body home since he didn’t have funeral cover.
</blockquote>
According to the Gauteng Province police spokesperson, Major General Girly Mbele, the suspects met the police as they were exiting the mall.
The police approached the mall after hearing gunshots and upon arrival, the suspects fired at the police as they tried to flee. Mbele said:

The suspects were driving a white Nissan Almera and they robbed a shop that sells clothing and cellphones at Studio 88 at Stoneridge Mall.

Only last week, some Zimbabweans, together with their South African counterparts, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/03/18/south-africa-8-men-including-zimbabweans-sentenced-to-3-life-sentences-plus-120-years-in-jail-for-cash-in-transit-crimes/">were sentenced to three life sentences and a total of 120 years in prison</a> for cash-in-transit (CIT)-related crimes.

Four Zimbabweans Shot Dead In Johannesburg

A 23-year-old man, who was masquerading as an official from the passport office in Harare, appeared in court on Wednesday over duping a passport applicant of US$230 after claiming he could assist the person to acquire the travel document.
Nyasha Chihombori was not asked to plead to the fraud charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda.
Miss Caroline Mutimusakwa alleges that on March 21 at around 9 am, Farisai Chivivite was at Makombe passport office where he intended to apply for a passport.
Chivivite was in the company of his niece, Tsitsi Chinongwenya, who was known to Chihombori from school.
Chihombori then made Chivivite believe that he was an employee working at the passport office.
The court heard that Chihombori further misrepresented to Chivivite that he was an employee of the passport office and was able to facilitate the processing of the passport application.
Chivivite paid US$230 but Chihombori disappeared after receiving the money.
That is when he realised that he had been duped.
Chihombori was later spotted in Harare’s City Centre and later taken to Harare Central Police where a police report was made.
It was later proved that he was not an employee of the Registrar General’s office.
Chihombori is expected to be back in court on April 4 for routine remand.

A Fake Passport Officer Arrested After Duping A Passport Applicant

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the death of a security guard at Harvey Farm in Glendale after he was assaulted by a gang of 11 machete-wielding robbers who wanted to steal a transformer.
Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe, said the gang pounced at the farm at around 1 pm and found Mr Dick Mulila (46) a security guard at the farm together with his two colleagues who were on different points on the farm.
A robber approached Mulila who was manning the boom gate, assaulted him before tying his hands with a rope.
Two members of the group were left guarding Mulila while others went towards the transformer located 120 metres away.
They tried to strip the transformer of its accessories but it resulted in a huge spark and noise that was heard by farmworkers who alerted another security guard who was 2km away.
A couple, Locadia Chapenduka and Tonderai Kamukono, heard Mulila screaming for help and went to investigate.
They were attacked by two members of the gang who held them hostage, together with Mulila.
Insp Mundembe added that the other group of robbers went to the farm workshop where they found Mr Faster Mafunga, the deceased guard and assaulted him.
From the workshop, they stole:

1). Exide batteries, 
2). a compressor, 
3). grinder and 
4). a toolbox. 
They also stole five more Exide batteries from tractors.
</blockquote>
They force-marched Mafunga to the boom gate before fleeing from the scene.
One of the hostages managed to untie himself and called for help. 
Mafunga, who had sustained serious injuries, was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to the injuries later that afternoon.
Insp Mundembe appealed to the public to mobilise each other in large numbers when they hear suspicious noises and immediately contact the police for assistance.

Armed Robbers Kill Security Guard - Police

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Raymond Mbedzi, a businessman who operates a warehouse at CSC (Southerton) in Harare for fraud.
In a statement, ZACC said Mbedzi allegedly mixed fertiliser acquired under the Command Agriculture facility with sand and stones, repackaged the adulterated product and sold it to unsuspecting farmers.
ZACC investigators recovered scales and a sack-sewing machine used by Mbedzi, as well as 170 empty Command Agriculture bags, 698 bags (50kgs) of Windmill fertiliser mixed with sand and 44 bags (50kgs) of Superfert fertiliser.
Mbedzi reportedly committed the offence between January and March 2022 and prejudiced the Government of US$35 598.
He is also accused of compromising the reputation of the Command Agriculture Programme, the fertilizer companies, Windmill and Superfert, whose packaging he used in committing the crime.

Harare Man Mixes Command Farming Fertiliser With Sand, Sells It To Farmers

A 35-year-old Domboshava self-proclaimed prophet was on Sunday fined three beasts by a Community Court for parading eight people naked, in front of villagers.
Madzibaba Renjidai, born Lovemore Kasambarare, appeared before Chief Chanhamora’s court after he paraded nude people to villagers at Munondo Village.
Madzibaba Renjidai accused his victims of dabbling in witchcraft but the chief asserted that it was taboo in his area to expose naked people in public.
In his judgement, Chief Chinamhora warned Madzibaba Renjidai over his shenanigans saying his conduct divides families. Said the chief:

Zvawakaita zvekupfekenura vanhu mbatya ndiko kupfekenura dunhu, wakapfekenura mambo uye wakapfekenura sabhuku. (What you did, undressing people in public, is akin to undressing the land. You undressed the chief and you also undressed the village head).
We do not want people who operate without the knowledge of our traditional leaders as well as conduct prayers, or cleansing ceremonies, which seek to divide families.
From the evidence given by one of the minor victims, Madzibaba Renjidai forced his victims to undress at knifepoint, before locking their clothes in your room.
You went on to invite villagers to view all the eight naked people, for the better part of the day.
Such misconduct is taboo, according to our traditional values and culture and, this has never happened in this area within my jurisdiction.
By undressing the kraal head’s wife, you were undressing her husband who gave you a place to live with your family.
You exposed our land, Ndicho chinonzi chisiwonekwe kana kuti chipini ichocho. (taboo).
I do not confirm nor deny that there is witchcraft.
I do not know how your claimed spiritual powers operate but let me encourage you to learn to control your spirit so that it is not tempted to assault people as a punishment.
I want to believe that this was your first time to do such misconduct and you will not do the same thing again.
If I may take this opportunity to urge village heads to look out for people, who operate under the name of healing, to report them to police as well as bring them before our traditional court.
We want to promote unity and peace among villagers.

'Prophet' Fined 3 Beasts For Parading Naked 'Witches'

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member, Godfrey Karembera, better known as Madzibaba VeShanduko, was on Wednesday granted $10 000 bail by a Harare magistrate.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere <a href="https://twitter.com/advocatemahere/status/1506633554612174851">said</a> Karembera remains hospitalised as he recovers from the injuries he sustained when tortured by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Karembera was brutally assaulted while in custody at Harare Central Police Station on 17 March after he was arrested in central Harare on the same day.
ZRP justified the assault of Karembera in a statement that he was “engaging in unsanctioned political activities in the Harare Central District”.
Karembera was also charged with undermining the authority of the police for allegedly insulting the arresting officers
His assault and torture came after Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, on 26 February this year, threatened the opposition CCC saying the ruling ZANU-PF party would “crush the party like lice”.

'Madzibaba VeShanduko' Granted $10 000 Bail

A man who raped his daughter seven years ago when she was only 13 and sentenced to nineteen (19) years in prison has been freed by a judge on the grounds that the magistrate did not handle the case properly.
During the trial, the State had alleged that the accused, Tirivashoma Chigwaja (54) of Nyamugomba Farm, Chinhoyi, sometime in 2015, forcibly entered into his 13-year-old daughter’s room and raped her once.
It was further alleged that Chigwaja told her daughter not to disclose the abuse and threatened to drink poison to kill himself if she disclosed the matter.
The minor, however, disclosed the rape to her brother and Chigwaja took poison but survived.
Chigwaja appealed the sentence at the High Court and Justice Tawanda Chitapi has set aside the conviction and sentence because of a procedural flaw in the way his trial was handled.
Justice Chitapi ordered Chigwaja’s immediate release from prison and a fresh trial.
The judge said despite Chigwaja pleading guilty, there were procedural irregularities in the way his trial was handled.
Chitapi asserted that the magistrate failed to follow the procedure for trial entered by a guilty plea. He ruled:

The trial of the accused was disposed of by way of a guilty plea.
The regional magistrate then asked the accused whether the accused had understood the facts, and other questions, in the nature of extrapolating the essential element of rape.
The proceedings did not comply with the provisions of s217 (2) as read with s 271(3) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act chapter 9:07.
The proceedings, in case number CRB CHNR 112/14, be and are hereby set aside for gross procedural irregularity which cannot be condoned.
The conviction and sentence imposed are set aside and the accused is entitled to his immediate release.
The Prosecutor General’s prerogative to prosecute the accused and, therefore, to institute fresh charges, remains open to him to exercise.
In the event that a fresh prosecution is instituted, and the accused is convicted, the trial magistrate, in assessing an appropriate sentence, shall take into account the sentence already served by the accused up to the date of his release, as part of an already served portion of the new sentence which the magistrate may impose.
</blockquote>

Judge Frees Man Who Raped Daughter After Magistrate Bungled Trial

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the government is crafting legislation to allow law officers to shoot to kill all who will be seen stealing copper cables.
He added that if the thieves are caught alive, they will spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Copper theft is not a new phenomenon but state companies and market players in Zimbabwe say it has surged in recent years.
It affects the electricity, telecommunications and transport sectors, and each year Zimbabwe’s parastatals spend millions of dollars replacing stolen cables and restoring vandalised infrastructure due to cable theft.
In a recent statement, it was revealed that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/ZESA">ZESA</a>, the local power utility, lost US$256 million in stolen materials, additional millions in replacement infrastructure and in security mitigation for the same period.
There is little doubt that copper cable theft has grown into a pandemic in Zimbabwe, particularly for the electricity, telecommunications, and railway parastatals.
Organisations such as Zesa, TelOne, Econet, Telecel, NetOne, and the National Railways of Zimbabwe tell tales of loss of business due to the effects of copper cable theft that has been spreading uncontrolled.
Households too are affected as they are left to spend days without power and sometimes asked to pull resources together for the purchase of copper cables.
It is suspected most of the stolen cables are being smuggled to South Africa and they are then shipped further to countries that use the metal in the construction and manufacturing industries.

Copper Cable Thieves Will Be Shot On Sight - President Mnangagwa

A Bulawayo man has lost over 200 chickens to thieves over the past two months.
The owner of the chickens, Mr Richard Ndebele has been having sleepless nights ever since the thieves targeted his house last month. Ndebele said:

This is the second time that they have struck at my house. The first time was last year and they took most of my chickens. This month they used the same method, where they cut the fence and the locks and steal.
</blockquote>
In an effort to stop the theft, Mr Ndebele purchased a dog, but the dog has gone missing. He added: 
<blockquote>
I don’t know whether this dog was stolen or what, but we can’t find it.  On both occasions, I didn’t hear anything from the fowl run.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, a suspected chicken thief, driving a red Toyota Raum without number plates, ran away on foot after police stopped him last night at around 9 PM.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident saying police recovered the chickens. Ncube said:

We are treating this case as stock theft. Alert police officers from traffic we doing patrols in Killarney opposite School of Mines, when they tried to stop a red Toyota Raum that had no number plates.
The driver ran away turning into a bush and landed in a ditch before abandoning it. Police discovered the 103 chickens of which 17 have died. We are awaiting the chickens to be taken away by the relevant authorities.
</blockquote>
The car that did not have back seats had feeding troughs for chickens and chicken feed that was reportedly stolen from Ndebele’s place.
Ndebele was at the Police Traffic offices this morning to identify his chickens.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a video circulating on social media in which police officers were harassed by Kombi crew. In a statement, ZRP said:

The ZRP is investigating a video circulating on social media where police officers in uniform are seen being harassed by some touts beside a white Toyota Hiace Kombi with no registration plates whilst a crowd is watching.
Investigations are now being conducted with a view of finding out what actually transpired, the place, date and time when this incident took place.
</blockquote>
The conflict between police and law-flouting kombi crews has been in existence for a long period of time.
Police use batons, tear smoke and or spikes to “fight” kombi crews who sometimes retaliate.

Alex Tawanda Magaisa, a former Chief of Staff in the office of a former Prime Minister, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, believes the Zimbabwe Republic Police might be targeting specific individual(s) through the operation on vehicles with no number plates. He was commenting on a police update that observed that some prominent persons and political figures were not displaying plates on their cars. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said they will impound such vehicles and ensure that the law takes its course. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reminds the public that the operation targeting vehicles which are moving on the country’s roads without displaying registration plates or being registered in terms of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act Chapter 13:14 is continuing. Since 15th January 2022, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has accounted for 43 108 vehicles throughout the country. The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned by the conduct of some motorists or vehicle owners who are driving posh and lavish vehicles on the roads and parking them in public places whilst clearly not displaying number plates. This conduct is also being exhibited by some prominent persons and political figures.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police will impound such vehicles and ensure that the law takes its course. No excuses will be entertained by police officers on checkpoints, roadblocks and other law enforcement sites.

Magaisa Says Police Targeting Certain Car As Operation On Vehicles With No Plates Continues

Former Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) director for Information Communication Technology and voter delimitation, Pamela Mapondera has taken the electoral body to the Labour Court for unlawfully terminating her contract.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/2022/03/zec-taken-to-court-on-unfair-dismissal-over-leaked-voters-roll/">NewsDay Zimbabwe reports</a> that ZEC had terminated her contract accusing her of leaking the voters’ roll to political parties.
Mapondera who is represented by Ephraim Ndhlovu of Mabundu and Ndhlovu law chambers has cited ZEC, and its chairperson Priscilla Chigumba, in that order, as the first and second respondent.
This is happening as opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa has condemned the voters’ roll saying it has anomalies.
The party said <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/03/17/ccc-reject-zec-voters-roll-demands-the-2018-version/">ZEC should use the 2018 version</a> of the voters’ roll for the by-elections slated for 26 March.
CCC’s stance comes after Team Pachedu, an opposition political activism online group, had alleged that the voters’ roll released by ZEC had several irregularities including that:

1). people registered under the same house addresses are being registered under different wards.
2). there are registered voters who used addresses of central business district offices, some of which have not been in use for some time.
3). thousands of other voters were registered under incomplete addresses that do not meet the VR1 requirements for rural voters.
4). over 177 000 people have been moved constituencies and or wards.

ZEC responded to Team Pachedu’s allegations saying the roll had been tampered with. The electoral body also said the roll that had anomalies was not the final version.

ZEC Official Dismissed For Leaking Voters' Roll To Political Parties

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, who last week arrested and tortured by the police has challenged his placement on remand arguing that he was held beyond the lawful 48-hour detention period.
His lawyer Doug Coltart said Karembera was arrested on Thursday 08:30 am and only attended to on Saturday at 1400 hours.
Karembera also told Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko that he was unlawfully arrested.
The State alleged he tried to deface the popular Mbuya Nehanda statue but through his lawyer, Karembera denied the allegations stating that police spokesman Paul Nyathi lied. He allegedly said:

Mapurisa makamama, makajaira kushandiswa nana Chiwenga, muri imbwa dzevanhu, munoita semunotambiriswa goridhe sei.
Loosely translated, it means: “You police officers are useless, and you are being used by (Vice President Constantino) Chiwenga. You are dogs. Why do you behave like you earn your salaries in sacks of gold?

Those allegations were not included in the court papers. Coltart said:

Nyathi is quoted saying the accused person was arrested for attempting to deface Mbuya Nehanda statue. There was no allegations relating to that on the court papers and it is common cause that the accused was more than 300 meters away from the Mbuya Nehanda statue. Nyathi lied and we don’t know where he got that from. He wanted to create his own narrative after the abuse of the CCC activist.

Karembera is being accused of undermining the authority of the police by insulting them.
Coltart presented evidence from doctor Jonathan Fernandes who examined Karembera at the Harare Central Police Station and he said he found Karembera with fresh bruises and scratches of beatings.
Fernandes said Karembera was struggling to walk due to the wounds on his feet, had a swollen eye and was unable to sit.
Coltart identified the lead attacker as one Constable Manyeruke.
He also said Karembera was never asked to sign the warned and cautioned statement which was only given to the lawyer in court.
Magistrate Barbara Mateko postponed the matter to Tuesday.

CCC Activist Madzibaba Veshanduko Challenges "Unlawful Arrest And Remand"

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club">Dynamos Football Club</a> legend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Stanley_Chirambadare">Stanley ‘Samora’ Chirambadare</a> (56) has been acquitted of sodomy charges.
Chirambadare who was part of the glamour boys team to reach the African Champions League final in 1998, eventually losing to Côte d’Ivoire’s Asec Mimosas, was being accused of <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/29/police-pick-dynamos-legend-chirambadare-over-sodomy/">sodomising a 13-year-old boy.</a>
He was acquitted by Harare magistrate Themba Kuwanda on Monday.
Chirambadare was cleared of wrongdoing after a full trial in which the magistrate ruled the state lacked evidence linking him to the crime.
The court said there were too many inconsistencies and contradictions in testimony given by witnesses.
The boy had enrolled at his football academy based in Mufakose, Harare.
Allegations were that sometime in March this year, the complainant, went to Chirambadare’s house together with his friend to sweep as he would always do and they would be given sweets.
Chirambadare was alleged to have dragged the boy into his bedroom and sexually assaulted him.
It was alleged that Chirambadare allegedly threatened to kill the complainant if he revealed the abuse to anyone.
The state had alleged he went on to abuse the complainant on several occasions until the boy developed piles.
He then disclosed the abuse to his uncle.
The uncle led him to the police station to report the matter, leading to Chirambadare’s arrest

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested another serial rapist identified as Prosper Buhle who allegedly committed 17 cases of rape.
In a statement, seen by Pindula News, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Prosper Buhle was disguising as a messenger to deceive his victims. Nyathi said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Prosper Buhle (29), in connection with a spate of rape and robbery cases which occurred in Bulawayo and surrounding areas during the period extending from December 2018 to March 2022. 
The suspect would approach the victims and masquerade as a bonafide messenger who had been sent to deliver some goods by relatives of the victims before asking the victims to accompany him. The suspect would use foot-paths passing through bushes where he would rape the victims and thereafter steal their cellphones, money and any other valuables possessed by the complainants. 
The suspect was finally arrested on 17th March 2022 in Luveve, Bulawayo after Police received a tip from the public. An identification parade was conducted and the suspect was positively identified by 17 complainants. Police are urging the public to avoid being duped and tricked by strangers who approach them without prior communication from their relatives on the pretext that they may have parcels for collection through third parties.

The gang is also facing armed robbery charges which are still pending.
The two were also sentenced to five years for unlawful possession of ammunition. They will, however, serve four years effective after the magistrate ruled that the sentences will run concurrently. 
Abdul and his accomplices reportedly committed a series of robberies in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana and they were arrested in December 2020 in Beitbridge after years of evading arrest.

Armed Robber Musa Taj Abdul Jailed For 5 Years For Illegal Possession Of Firearms

A Tsholotsho man reportedly committed suicide while in a police cell after being arrested for allegedly stabbing his 12-year-old cousin.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of one Bright Zhantali for a series of murder and rape cases that he allegedly committed in Mashonaland East and Manicaland Provinces. <h2>ARREST OF BRIGHT ZHANTALI FOR NINE CASES OF MURDER AND RAPE</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a serial rapist and murder suspect Bright Zhantali (30) who caused panic and fear in Mashonaland East and Manicaland Provinces.
Police arrested Bright Zhantali (30) on 19th March 2022 in Goromonzi, for nine (9) counts of murder and rape cases which occurred during the period 14th January 2022 to 12th March 2022, in Hwedza, Goromonzi, Marondera and Macheke. All the victims were women.
On the 1st incident, the suspect attacked Mercy Simairi (28) on 14th January 2022 at Roughlands Farm, Marondera after raping her and strangled her to death. On 16th January 2022, the suspect pounced on Chipo Gwese (40) at Ndudzo Village, Chief Svosve, Hwedza after a being intimate and killed her. On 20th January 2022, Bright Zhantali callously attacked Betty Mlambo (43) at Dombotombo, Marondera after being intimate with her. On 31 January 2022, the suspect waylaid and attacked Stella Zuze (54) along Bronton Road, Goromonzi after demanding some cash from her. He stole USD$30 and a cellphone. On 7th February 2022, Bright Zhantali recklessly assaulted Nelia Maringe (44) to death at Grasslands Farm, Marondera after she had turned down his love proposal. On 23 February 2022, the suspect murdered Fadzai Muchadenyika (female adult) at Mutamba location, Macheke after a sexual intercourse. On 11th March 2022, the suspect attacked Meggie Kaomba (61) at Hunyani Golf Course, Marondera after raping her. On the same date, the suspect killed Petronella Tsoka (49) at Yellow City, Marondera after raping her. 
On an unknown date in February 2022, Bright Zhantali hooked up with an unidentified woman at a night club in Nyameni, Marondera before he raped and murdered her behind Cherutombo High School.
Bright Zhantali has led the Police to nine (9) scenes of crime and discovery of two bodies in advanced state of decomposition. The suspect has also indicated that he committed other murder cases in Rusape, Mutare and Nyanga.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has intensified patrols and investigations to ensure that all criminal elements targeting innocent women face the long arm of the law.

Copper theft is not a new phenomenon but state companies and market players in Zimbabwe say it has surged in recent years.
In a statement, seen by Pindula News, police say Tomu was apprehended by a motorist who brought the man to the police station. Said police in a statement:

On 19/03/22, Police in Madziwa arrested Simbarashe Tomu who was found in possession of 45 metres of Telone copper cables. The suspect was brought to the Police station after he was apprehended by an alert motorist who noticed him rolling the cables near Mupfurudzi Tollgate.

<h2>Why is this important:</h2>
<blockquote>
1). Cable theft has become a form of organised crime whose impact on businesses, communities, and the economy at large is alarming.
2). It affects the electricity, telecommunications and transport sectors, and each year Zimbabwe’s parastatals spend millions of dollars replacing stolen cables and restoring vandalised infrastructure due to cable theft. 
3). In a recent statement, it was revealed that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/ZESA">ZESA</a>, the local power utility, lost US$256 million in stolen materials, additional millions in replacement infrastructure and in security mitigation for the same period.
4). There is little doubt that copper cable theft has grown into a pandemic in Zimbabwe, particularly for the electricity, telecommunications, and railway parastatals.
5). Organisations such as Zesa, TelOne, Econet, Telecel, NetOne, and the National Railways of Zimbabwe tell tales of loss of business due to the effects of copper cable theft that has been spreading uncontrolled.
6). Households too are affected as they are left to spend days without power and sometimes asked to pull resources together for the purchase of copper cables.

Cable theft has multiple players involved from petty criminals on the ground, who dig up the copper cables and extract them to sell to dealers, to more sophisticated and organised structures, syndicates involving professionals (even workers of respective companies) and those who even take down the cables from power lines. 
</blockquote>
<h2>Where cables go:</h2>
<blockquote>
1). It is suspected most of the stolen cables are being smuggled to South Africa and they are then shipped further to countries that use the metal in the construction and manufacturing industries.
2). Some Zimbabwean scrap dealers buy stolen copper, melt it down, turn it into ingots and granules, which do not require scrap export permits or remove identifying markers.

Motorist Apprehend Man In Possession Of TelOne Copper Cables

Members of the public have been warned about individuals masquerading as nurse aide trainers who are fleecing desperate Zimbabweans in need of first aid certificates for use as a gateway to overseas markets.
Why Nurse Aide Certificates: 
The United Kingdom (UK) announced that its health system needs to fill about 110 192 vacant posts following the death of many frontline health workers who succumbed to COVID-19 related complications.
The shortages include 39 652 nurses and 8 158 medical doctors, according to the latest quarterly data for health service vacancies published by the National Health Service (NHS).
Nursing assistants in the UK earn an average of £20 000 per annum (US$26 000) which translates to about US$2 100 per month.
Some scammers are taking advantage of the rising demand for nursing aides to set up nurse aide training institutions to milk desperate individuals of their hard-earned cash. An official source from the Ministry of Health and Child Care said:
<blockquote>
 We have information that these individuals misrepresent to unsuspecting people that their operations are internationally recognised and they have connections with nurse aide recruiting agencies in the United Kingdom and Australia while in fact, they are bogus individuals.
It has been established that people falling prey to the conmen rarely carry out background checks to establish the authenticity of these institutions and this has worked against them.
</blockquote>
Research has shown that recognised institutions include Red Cross, St Johns Ambulance Association, Angel Care Home Health, Ocean Bird Nurse Aide Training Centre, and One Africa Trust, among others.
These are oversubscribed and those desperate for the qualification end up falling prey to fraudsters who are charged between US$100-US$200 for training which lasts between three and four weeks after which they get certificates. 
One victim, Thandekile Mpofu, who spoke to the Zimbabwe Independent, said:

I only discovered that I was duped when I was going through the application process.
I noticed that the institution was not among the list of recognised training bodies as I was made to believe. I then phoned the responsible people, but they were evasive.
I cannot locate them anymore. Their mobile numbers are no longer in use. There were about 10 people in my class.

In January, a Red Cross employee Debra Tembedza was arraigned before a Harare magistrate for allegedly issuing nurse aide certificates to untrained individuals for a US$50 fee per person.

Fake Nurse Aide Trainers Cash In On Desperate Zimbabweans

Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson, John Makamure, has warned people masquerading as ZACC officials in order to rob members of the public of their hard-earned cash that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
Makamure made the remarks following the arrest of a senior Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer, Superintendent Edgar Moyo, stationed at Gokwe District Police Headquarters and two others.
Superintendent Moyo and his two accomplices Cyprus Phiri and Crispen Manda allegedly impersonated ZACC commissioners to defraud a cross-boarder trader of US$2 000.
Moyo is in police custody awaiting to appear in court while Manda and Phiri were remanded in custody pending bail application. Said Makamure:

The commission notes with serious concern an increase in the number of ZACC officials going about fleecing people of their hard-earned money.
We wish to strongly warn perpetrators that the net is closing in on them and they will rot in jail.
Members of the public should know that ZACC officials do not need payment to carry out their constitutional mandate.
So, if anyone encounters a ZACC official and they are asked for money, they should report.

Top Cop Impersonates ZACC Official To Commit US$2 000 Fraud

A 30-year-old woman from Mpopoma suburb in Bulawayo was arrested after she allegedly forced her six-year-old son to have sex with her on several occasions.
The woman, who cannot be named so as to protect her son’s identity, recently appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja facing indecent assault charges.
The woman was not asked to plead. The magistrate remanded her in custody to 22 March for routine remand and advised her to apply for bail.
Prosecutors alleged that from January this year up to 13 March, the accused forced her six-year-old son to be intimate with her.
It is further alleged that initially, the victim refused but the mother threatened to beat him up with a cable.
Fear of being whipped induced the minor to give in to his mother’s demand and engaged in sex with her.
The matter only came to light after the boy told his friend about the abuse.
The victim’s friend told his mother who then reported the matter to the police leading to the accused’s arrest.

Woman (30) 'Rapes' Own Son Aged 6

A Bishop with Zion Church in Bikita, Masvingo Province was recently fined five beasts by a Community Court after being found guilty of impregnating a married woman.
Bishop Joel Musariri from Musariri Village was fined five cattle by Chief Mpakwa for bedding Admire Manganye’s wife, Tendai Muguraumwe.
The adulterous affair between the clergyman and Muguraumwe reportedly started in 2009 and went undetected for many years until some villagers, who knew what was happening between the two, revealed to Manganye that he was not the biological father to one of Tendai’s children.
Manganye then confronted his wife about the allegations and she confessed that she had been sleeping with the Bishop behind her husband’s back and that one of the children was sired by the churchman.
This prompted Manganye to approach Chief Mpakwa’s traditional court suing Musariri for bedding his wife.

Both Muguraumwe and Musariri confessed their illicit affair before Chief Mpakwa’s court.
</blockquote>
The traditional leader ruled that it was unfair for Musariri to make Manganye look after his own child for over 10 years without his knowledge.
Chief Mpakwa confirmed to B-Metro that he ordered Musariri to pay five beasts as compensation for impregnating Manganye’s wife. Said the chief:

Manganye was disappointed and felt upset and betrayed. This was after he discovered that for years he had been looking after another man’s flesh and blood.
As a Chief, I felt that it was unfair for Musariri to order Manganye to bear full responsibility for a child who was not his and that’s why I ordered him to pay five beasts as compensation.

The traditional leader also said he chided Musariri for his adultery as his actions were against social customs, values and ethos and also unbecoming for a purported man of God.

ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Saturday told The Standard the police is investigating the allegations but need “space”. Said Nyathi:

We made it clear from the onset that we are investigating allegations that Karembera was beaten by police officers and we will make sure that the law takes its course.
So we would like to appeal to the members of the public including the media to give us the space to conduct investigations.
We also want to try to avoid investigating the case while at the same time we are giving every bit of information to the media.
But I can assure you that everything is being done above board.

Karembera was arrested in central Harare last Thursday and charged for disorderly conduct and trying to deface Mbuya Nehanda’s statue.
He appeared before Harare magistrate Barbara Mateko at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Saturday.
Karembera is currently admitted at the hospital where he is receiving treatment following the torture and assault by police officers.
His lawyer, Doug Coltart said the magistrate refused to allow him to file an application challenging his placement on remand after the torture. Mateko said the application should be made on Monday.
