A teacher and a nurse and an accomplice have been arrested by the police for unlawful possession of two live pangolins.
Justice Faya (42), Pinias Chauke (31), and Lovemore Dheya (39), were arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chipinge Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said in a statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chipinge Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit, has arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of two live pangolins.
The three suspects are Lovemore Dheya, aged 39 years, not employed, Justice Faya, aged 42 years, employed as a teacher and Pinias Chauke, aged 31 years, a nurse, all of Checheche, Chipinge.
On 4 April 2022, police detectives in Chipinge got wind that the three accused persons were in possession of a live pangolin in Chibuwe which they intended to sell at a business centre in Chipinge.
Acting on the information, police quickly reacted to the call and mounted a roadblock together with the Chipinge Safari crew.
They searched all vehicles that passed through the roadblock and they recovered two live pangolins from one of the vehicles leading to the arrest of the three.
The pangolins were in a 20-litre container that was stashed in a sack in the boot of the motor vehicle. The three were taken to court and were remanded to 11 April 2022 for trial.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns the public against poaching wildlife. According to the Parks and Wildlife Act, it is an offence for one to hunt any animal on any land without a permit.
Please be warned that the illegal killing and trafficking of any endangered wildlife attracts a mandatory lengthy sentence of a nine-year jail term.

Teacher, Nurse Caught In Possession Of Two Pangolins

<h2>Full statement by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on murder cases in Kadoma, Jambezi, Chikuti and Nkayi.</h2>

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has recorded a number of murder cases around the country in the last seven days with some being perpetrated by friends and close family members during disputes over petty issues.
On 27th March 2022, a man (25) was fatally assaulted several times on the head with a wooden plank by his two friends after a misunderstanding while drinking beer at Sacred Heart Mission Business Centre, Jambezi.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was referred to Victoria Falls Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
However, his condition continued to deteriorate resulting in his death on 5th April 2022.
On 29th March 2022, ZRP Eiffel Flats recorded a murder case where three brothers, Collins Muvengi, Liberty Muvengi and Fatso Muvengi, allegedly teamed up and assaulted a cousin brother, Blessing Musariri (32) all over the body with logs, on allegations of switching off a torchlight at a family gathering at Gweshe, Eiffel Flats, Kadoma.
The victim was initially referred to Kadoma Hospital and later to Sally Mugabe Hospital, Harare, where he succumbed to the injuries while admitted at the institution on 3rd April 2022.
In another case, Police have arrested nine (09) suspects in connection with a case of murder that occurred at Serious Mine in Chikuti on 5th April 2022, where the victim (20) had a fight with one of the suspects over a girlfriend.
The suspect later sought assistance from his workmates who teamed up and went to the victim’s residence, while armed with a pistol.
They attacked the victim before dragging him into their Nissan Caravan vehicle and took him to Serious Mine where they fatally assaulted him with fan belts alleging that he had robbed one of the suspects.
Meanwhile, Police are investigating circumstances surrounding a murder case in which the body of a woman (20) was found half-naked, lying in a bush at Mujaji area, Siganda, Nkayi on 4th April 2022.
The body had a small stick embedded on the neck and struggle marks were noted at the crime scene.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to exercise self-restraint when they face disputes or disagreements with friends, relatives or any member of the society.

Police Concerned Over Murders Committed By Friends And Family Members | Full Statement

Zimbabwe will send some prisoners officers for training in Mozambique, in an exchange programme, that will see the country borrow best practices from its eastern neighbour.
This was said by Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on Thursday during a courtesy call by a delegation from the National Penitentiary Services of Mozambique.
Ziyambi said Zimbabwe and Mozambique will jointly work on ways to improve the welfare of prisoners in line with international standards. Said Ziyambi:

We are going to send our officers to be trained in Mozambique and Mozambique will send their officers to be trained here in Zimbabwe.
We are having this programme with Mozambique so that they can exchange notes and see if they can borrow best practices, and implementations, within our system and vice versa.
We believe that this is a good thing, they have already started hitting the ground to familiarise themselves with our system.

Ziyambi also revealed that the Government is in the process of amending the Prisons Act so that it is in sync with the Constitution.
The director of National Penitentiary Services of Mozambique, General Antonio Augusto, said he was impressed by projects being undertaken by Zimbabwe’s prisoners.

A foreign national was stabbed and robbed by three unknown suspects at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Friday morning.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the traveller was looking for a place to buy a local sim card when the suspects pounced on her.
Posting on its Twitter page, the ZRP said the suspects stabbed the woman with a knife in her right hand and grabbed her two bags before jumping into their white Toyota Corolla getaway vehicle. Read the post:

Robbers Attack Foreign National At Robert Mugabe Airport

The Kumalo Primary School headmistress who was facing charges of posting pornographic material on WhatsApp has been acquitted.
Stella Mhlanga was charged for contravening Section 26 of the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act Chapter 10:04 (Possession of prohibited articles).
Allegations were that she accidentally shared a revealing picture of her private parts on her WhatsApp status.
In her defence outline, Mhlanga through her lawyer Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice argued that she was never in possession of the alleged pornographic content.
She said she received the phone from her sister Sibusisiwe Moyo who is based in South Africa.
Mhlanga further stated that before her sister handed over the phone to her, she cleared the phone memory and when she received the phone there was absolutely nothing in it.
In acquitting her, Bulawayo magistrate Marygold Ndlovu ruled that the State failed to establish essential elements of the charges levelled against Mhlanga. The magistrate ruled:

In the court’s view, the fact that the images were only recovered through forensic software makes the accused person’s defence that everything was cleared at the time she received the cellphone reasonably possibly true.
It is equally possible that these images had been deleted prior and were not visible in the gallery with a naked eye.
Further, the evidence led on behalf of the State did not prove whether these are the same images posted to the accused person’s WhatsApp status.
Had the State led evidence to prove that these were the same images posted on the accused person’s WhatsApp status the court could have been persuaded that the accused had been in possession of the images at that time and had deleted them to conceal evidence.
In case the court finds no reason to dismiss the accused’s defence as not reasonably possibly true.
In the premises, the State has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and the accused person is accordingly found not guilty and acquitted.

Prosecutors had alleged that on 2 August 2021, the Provincial Victim Friendly Unit received a tip-off to the effect that Mhlanga had posted pornographic material on her WhatsApp status.
On realising her error, Mhlanga allegedly immediately removed the picture but some of her contacts including teachers and parents with children at her school had saved it and forwarded it to their friends.
Mhlanga was eventually arrested following investigations by the police.
Investigators also seized her cell phone Samsung N910F Galaxy Note taken to the police station.
The cellphone was then referred to CID National Cyber Forensics Laboratory, Bulawayo for examination.
During the forensic examinations, four pornographic images were allegedly retrieved from Mhlanga’s phone.

Headmistress Who Allegedly Shared Nude Picture On WhatsApp Acquitted

A mother is suing Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for alleged negligence by nurses which resulted in the amputation of her child’s leg.
The mother, Tiny Masvaure, gave birth to a baby girl on 23 December 2020 at Mbuya Nehanda maternity hospital which is under the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
Masvaure, an asthmatic patient, suffered complications in her breathing and gave birth to a pre-term baby girl, at 34 weeks and a day.
She alleged that nurses ignored her baby’s crying for 11 days, only to realise her leg had rotten resulting in the amputation.
Masvaure’s lawyer, Paida Saurombe of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), has written to the hospital demanding hospital records of the baby. Wrote Saurombe:

We have instructions to demand as we hereby do that you provide us within seven days of receipt of this letter, all hospital records regarding the victim, all minutes of the investigations conducted on how she came to be amputated, a prosthetic leg for her and a comprehensive compensation plan for past and future medical expense.
</blockquote>
When the baby was born, Masvaure asked the nurses if there were any complications with the baby and she was advised that her baby was healthy.
She said she was told that her baby would be placed on antibiotics as a precautionary measure considering she was a preterm baby.
A cannula was then put on the child’s hand and after two days the hand started swelling.
The nurses then removed the cannula and put it on her leg on 8 January, but it started to swell after some hours.
When Masvaure informed the nurses about the development, she was labelled a “troublesome parent”. Her lawyer Saurombe wrote:

Our client did not relent in alerting the hospital staff who ignored her. This was despite the baby crying continuously and appearing very uncomfortable.
This unfortunate neglect and abuse of the baby despite the protestations of the mother led to the child’s leg being amputated on January 19, 2021, because according to hospital sources the leg had rotten.
The mother and the baby ended up staying three months in an isolated ward.
</blockquote>
The child is now over a year and learning to stand and walk but there are fears she risks falling down and sustaining more serious injuries.
According to Saurombe, they were advised that the procedure was wrongfully done such that the girl will need constant corrective surgeries as she grows up.

Nurses’ Negligence Results In Newborn Baby Losing Leg

A Harare magistrate has sentenced a 48-year-old Harare man to an effective 10 years in prison for stealing a telecommunication pole valued at $24 650.
Karakadzai Mwashairei, a Mbare resident, pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrate Ignition Mhene.
Prosecuting, Shepherd Makonde said on 5 September 2021, at around 3 AM, a security guard, Rachiel Chikomba, spotted Mwashairei cutting a pole carrying telecommunication wires.
Chikomba was on duty at the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA)’s transport premises along Lytton Road when she witnessed the incident.
The court heard that Chikomba alerted members of the public, who assisted her to apprehend the accused person and recovered a hacksaw and two pieces of the pole.
Mwashairei was taken to CID Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit Harare.

Man (48) Sentenced To 10 Years In Jail For Stealing TelOne Pole

The wife of a Zimbabwean national brutally murdered in South Africa on Wednesday night said the gang that took her husband away and later stoned and set him on fire demanded R300 cash.
Speaking to SABC News, Nyathi’s widow said the gang accused her husband of criminality and of owning a gun and demanded cash.
She said she had only R50 which they grabbed before taking away Nyathi who they stoned and set alight on fire in the street.
Nyathi had earlier fled from the mob because he did not have a passport. Watch the video below:

WATCH: Widow Of Zimbabwean Man Murdered In SA Says Mob Demanded Cash

A West Nicholson businessman took on three armed robbers who had stormed his shop, demanding cash, and wrestled one of the robbers who was holding a firearm before eventually getting assistance from neighbours.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the armed robber was disarmed by members of the public but the other two fled when they noticed that the businessman’s neighbours were coming.
The suspect, Doubt Munsaka (23) is now in police custody. ZRP’s posted on its Twitter page:

Police in West Nicholson arrested Doubt Munsaka (23) for attempted robbery and recovered a revolver gun.
The suspect together with two others, who are still at large, pounced at a local businessman’s house at Rodgers Compound before pointing the firearm at the complainant while demanding cash.
The victim wrestled one of the suspects, who was holding a revolver gun while calling for assistance from neighbours.
On noticing that the neighbours were coming to rescue the complainant, the two other suspects escaped.
The suspect was apprehended and disarmed by the public.

Businessman Wrestles, Disarms Three Armed Robbers

The late Retired General Solomon Mujuru’s son, Tendai Mujuru, has been summoned to court to answer to allegations of using force and violence to enter a local resort in Borrowdale owned by Sekai Nyandoro.
Nyandoro is applying for a protection order against Tendai at the Harare Civil Court.
According to an affidavit deposed by Nyandoro, Tendai has been coming to the resort intending to take over the property which he claims is part of his inheritance.
Nyandoro said the late Solomon Mujuru acquired a stake in the business but the issue was still being contested in court. She said:

The respondent violated my peace, more specifically, in that he verbally abused me with threats of physical harm, if I refused to allow him access.
He indicated that he was taking over the place so that he could enjoy his father’s inheritance and we could never experience any peace if we denied him all his demands.
</blockquote>
The matter has been set down for hearing on 20 April.

Late General Mujuru's Son Embroiled In Property Wrangle

The neighbours and friends of the late cricket coach, Procter Saurombe, believe he was murdered and left hanging on a gate to stage an accidental death.
Saurombe’s body was found hanging from the main gate of his house, in Glen Norah on Monday and it was initially thought that he lost his balance trying to scale the gate and got impaled by spikes on the gate.
The body was facing downwards, with his pair of shorts still hanging to the sharp-edged hooks, on the iron gate.
Saurombe had spent the day socialising with friends, many of them are involved in cricket either as players or coaches.
Police officers, who attended the scene, searched Saurombe’ss body and found the keys to the gate and the house in his pockets but his mobile phones were missing.
Family members have queried how someone, who had the gate keys in his pocket, could have attempted to climb the gate.
Speaking to H-Metro, Saurombe’s sister, Pamela Chidemo, said there was no doubt his brother was murdered. She said:

I am certain that this was murder considering that he had his keys in his pocket, but his phones are missing.
Some are saying he was drunk and got hurt while jumping over the gate, but haasati ambodhakwa zvekutadza kuziva zvaari kuita.
When we found him hanging, we noticed froth coming out of his mouth, so we suspect that he was, somehow, suffocated.
We will just wait for post-mortem results to tell us what transpired because I can’t accept that he died because of loss of blood from a wound on the leg.
</blockquote>
Pamela also revealed that his brother was once threatened by some people from his neighbourhood. The threatening message, which she showed to H-Metro, read:

The publication also reported sources as saying Saurombe recently had a misunderstanding with his lover over money.
The lover, it was claimed, was arrested and thrown into police cells.
At the time of his death, Saurombe was a cricket coach at his former school, Prince Edward School in Harare.
He was also doing part-time coaching for individuals.
He was 43.

Family Believes Ex-Cricket Player, Procter Saurombe, Was Murdered

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is urging members of the public to desist from taking the law into their hands when they are aggrieved and report to the police instead. This comes amid a rise in the number of kidnappings, murder, torture and malicious damage to property but people who would be seeking to execute “instant” or “mob justice”. In a statement, seen by Pindula News, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi also issued an update on some robbery cases. We present the statement below.

<h2>CASES OF MURDER, KIDNAPPING, MALICIOUS DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, ASSAULT, STOCK THEFT AND UNLAWFUL ENTRY INTO PREMISES AND THEFT-GUYU</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to report all criminal cases to the Police and avoid taking the law into their own hands if wronged by another person.
Police are investigating cases of Murder, Kidnapping, Malicious damage to property, Assault, Stocktheft and Unlawful Entry into Premises and Theft which occurred in Guyu and Tuli areas on 1st April 2022, after 34 villagers from Guyu, including 11 Botswana nationals who were tracking their stolen donkeys teamed up and undertook a door to door operation on stock theft suspects.
The gang, who were using two unidentified vehicles, went to John West Village, Tuli, where they effected a citizen arrest on Godwill Ndlovu and Justice Ncube on allegations of stock theft, after they had recovered 11 donkeys penned at the complainants’ homestead. They handcuffed the two and took them to five other complainants’ residences where they broke window panes and doors on several homesteads, before demolishing ZAR 25 400 worth of property which include refrigerators, sofas, cupboards, beds and a kitchen unit. In the process cash amounting to ZAR9 900 and a Mobicell cellphone were reportedly stolen from the complainants.
A clash with John West Villagers, who repossessed the recovered donkeys, ensued and the team retreated. However, they took with them Godwill Ndlovu and Justice Ncube, whom they assaulted with sjamboks and wooden sticks at Mashaba Business Centre, Guyu which resulted in the death of Justice Ncube.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is now conducting comprehensive investigations into the incident.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued an update on the shootout that transpired between police and armed robbers at a service station near Harare Exhibition Centre on the 30th of March. <h2>ZRP UPDATE ON THE SHOOTING INCIDENT AT A SERVICE STATION NEAR HARARE EXHIBITION CENTRE </h2>
Reference is made to the recent shootout incident between the Zimbabwe Republic Police members and armed robbery suspects on 30th March 2022 at a service station near Harare Exhibition Centre. This led to the subsequent arrest of Thulani Maphosa (30), Dalubuhle Ndlovu (36), Michael Khauyiso (47), Precious Dube (40) and death of one suspect Meluleki Makhalima. A navy blue Toyota Corolla (AEC 7253) which was being used as a second get-away car by the suspects was recovered.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police informs the public that the South African registered WV Polo (FJO3FMGP) used as first getaway car was dumped at a certain house in Norton by yet to be identified male and female suspects on 3e March 2022. The two requested to leave the car for safekeeping on the pretext that it had developed a mechanical fault and were going to look for a mechanic.
The police has since recovered a number of items from the vehicle which include towels, sandals, satchel, clothes, bank cards, cellphones reflective triangles, tackies, sports jerseys, HIV testing kits, South African working permits and a passport. 
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intensified investigations with a view of arresting suspects only identified as Sean, Fundisani and the two who left the VW Polo vehicle in Norton.

ZRP Issues Update On Shootout At A Service Station Near Harare Exhibition Centre

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the recovery of a vehicle that had been stolen on the 3rd of this month in Mbare.
Police say the victim parked his silver Corolla Crystallite vehicle AEP 9435 while going into a barbershop in Mbare and left the keys in the ignition. The incident happened at about 1540 hours. In a statement, seen by Pindula News, police said:

Police later recovered the vehicle at George Stark High School with some missing car accessories which include a car radio, speakers, battery and a Samsung cellphone.

In a related case, ZRP Hwange recorded a case of theft of a white Toyota Hilux Revo vehicle (AFF 8145) at Sino Hydro, Hwange the 1st of April 2022. The vehicle was allegedly stolen by an unidentified suspect who impersonated a company employee.
In another case, on the 2nd of this month, at about 2300 hours, a 35-year-old motorist lost his Toyota Runx Vehicle ACN 6920 to an unknown suspect near Pamuzinda, Harare, after he parked the vehicle along the road to relieve himself while the engine was running.
Similarly, on the same day at about 2300 hrs, a Harare man (37) lost a white Nissan Tiida vehicle AFB 1746 after parking along the road for recess along Tynwald Drive. The unidentified passenger whom he had picked along Harare-Bulawayo Road jumped onto the steering and drove away.

Police Recover Stolen Vehicle

A man from Mbembesi has been arrested for assaulting a 70-year-old guard with a pellet gun for flashing lights at him and his friends while he was investigating suspicious movements at a business centre.
David Mguni (28) appeared before Bulawayo Tredgold magistrate Mrs Nomagugu Maphosa last week charged with assault as defined in section 39(1)(a)(b) of the criminal law codification reform act 9:23. 
Appearing for the State, Mr Owen Mugari told the court that on 23 March and around 11 pm, Japhet Zulu was on duty at Fingo Shopping Centre Mbembesi where he was guarding and was in possession of an empty pellet gun.
Zulu heard some suspicious movements and lit a hit torch to check.
The court heard that Mguni who was in the company of his friends in the dark was angry about Zulu’s actions and angrily charged at him before taking away his pellet gun and assaulting him several times all over the body.
He also broke the pellet gun. Zulu sustained serious injuries from the assault and a medical report will be produced as an exhibit.
 Mguni was also charged with malicious damage to property for damaging the pellet gun that belonged to Isaac Mhlanga. 
He was remanded in custody to the 12th of April for trial.

Man Disarms 70-Year-Old Guard, Assaults Him, Breaks His Gun

A 39-year-old man from Mpopoma in Bulawayo has appeared in court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl who was working for him as a maid several times on different occasions.
The man appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze last week charged with raping and impregnating a minor. 
The court heard that the accused forced himself on the teenager from an unknown date in January 2021 to November 2021.
Prosecutor Samantha Gubede told the court that on the first occasion, the accused sent his younger daughter to call the maid who was washing plates outside the house while his wife was not around. 
He then went with the teen to her bedroom and forced her to lie down on the bed and she refused. He then pushed her onto the bed and closed her mouth before raping her. From that day, he would rape the teenager on many other occasions, the court heard.
The matter came to light when his wife suspected that the minor was pregnant and that is when she revealed the truth that she was raped by the suspect. The teenager was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination and a medical report can be provided in court as an exhibit. 
He was granted bail of $ 300 000 and the matter was postponed to 25 April for trial.

Man In Court For Raping And Impregnating "Under Age" Maid

A 93-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb who was found guilty of attempted murder after he used a knobkerrie to attack and break his tenant’s arm, escaped jail by a whisker after the court exercised leniency due to his advanced age and sentenced him to just two minutes imprisonment.
Thomas Ndiweni who was angered by his tenant Mr Steven Nyathi (57)’s failure to pay rentals, hit him with a knobkerrie twice on the head and once on the left arm.
Ndiweni was convicted on his own plea by Tredgold magistrate, Mrs Jesse Kufa last week.
He, however, through his lawyer Mr Simbarashe Innocent Madzivire from Tanaka Law Chambers pleaded with the court to be lenient given that he was a first-time offender and that he was old.
Mr Madzivire said Ndiweni was of Nguni origin and did not carry the knobkerrie to beat Nyathi but it was part of his culture.
Mrs Kufa said throwing Ndiweni in jail was like sentencing him to death due to his advanced age. She said:

The accused pleaded guilty and looks an elderly person beyond the mark of 90 years. He is, however, facing a serious offence, which warrants a custodial sentence but given his advanced age the court submits that such a sentence will not meet the justice of the case.
One needs to pass a sentence that suits the accused and the offence he is facing.

Mrs Kufa said the accused was not just old but also frail.
She ruled that Ndiweni would serve his sentence from the moment she finished announcing the sentence and the time the court rises which is a sentence whereby the Judge/Magistrate deems that attendance at court is sufficient punishment.
Mr Nyathi who was as of Monday still nursing his injury said as a result of the beating, he could not fend for himself as he is a pushcart operator.

A 93-year-old Man Breaks Tenant's Arm Over Rent Arrears

High Court judge Justice Gladys Mhuri Monday dismissed an application by activist Namatai Kwekweza, who sought to challenge the legality of the extension of Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s term of office by five years.
On May 16 last year, President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended Malaba’s term of office saying he was medically fit to continue as the country’s top judge despite being 70, the retirement age for judges.
Several human rights organisations, including Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum executive director Musa Kika, contested the decision without success.
On May 20 last year, Kwekweza wrote to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) through her lawyers Scanlen and Holderness requesting information relating to how the JSC had arrived at the decision to recommend the extension of Malaba’s term of office beyond retirement age. Kwekweza submitted in her letter:

How did the JSC come to a decision on the appropriate recommendation to make to the President under section 186(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe relating to … Malaba’s bid to continue as CJ for another five years? In particular, was a meeting held by the commissioners for this purpose? Was a resolution passed to make the appropriate recommendation? If so, may we have a copy of the resolution? If a resolution was passed … which commissioners of JSC voted in favour of recommending that … Malaba’s tenure be extended for another five years and which commissioners voted against?
</blockquote>
The JSC responded through its legal practitioners Kantor and Immerman dismissing Kwekwedza’s request saying that it infringed on the individual’s rights. The JSC lawyers wrote back:

Kindly note that our client avers that the information request you have made is not in accordance with the applicable law. Any such request is subject to the rights of the individuals and institutions concerned. There’s no automatic right to the information.
</blockquote>
Kwekweza was, however, not satisfied with the response and she filed a High Court application.
Justice Mhuri said the case confirmed the CJ’s position to remain in office for the next five years as accepted by the President. Mhuri added that the case sealed and brought to finality any challenge to the CJ’s extension of tenure and all the processes that led to it.

High Court Dismiss Application To Challenge Extension Of CJ Malaba's Term Of Office

The Labour Court has ordered the municipality of Marondera to reinstate seven employees who were dismissed last year after being accused of being Nelson Chamisa’s sympathisers.
The workers approached the courts saying they were illegally dismissed after refusing to pledge allegiance to the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC T.
According to a judgement issued on March 2, the local government authority has been ordered to reinstate the workers to their positions and pay them their defaulted salaries. Reds the judgment in part:

The claim for unlawful termination of the contracts of employment is upheld. The 1st to the 6th respondent be and is hereby reinstated into their original positions without loss of salary and benefits.
If reinstatement is no longer tenable, the council shall pay the workers’ damages for the premature loss of their jobs. The damages are to be agreed between the parties failure of which either party can refer the matter to the court for quantification. 
</blockquote>
Several people who were loyal to Chamisa lost their jobs last year following the takeover by the MDC T.
The 26 March by-elections were meant to replace the individuals who were recalled by the MDC-T.

Council Ordered To Reinstate Chamisa's Loyalists

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for two Mberengwa men who allegedly killed a 26-year-old man after he drank their beer without their consent.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the murder incident occurred on Thursday at Chemubhobho business centre near Mnene Mission Hospital in Mberengwa. He said:

I can confirm that police are investigating a matter in which a Mberengwa man was stabbed to death over beer.
It is alleged that on March 31 around 12 pm at Chemubhobho business centre near Mnene Mission Hospital in Mberengwa the now deceased Definite Munyayi Moyo was drinking beer in the company of two suspects Shepherd Hove and Ephraim Chengeta.
</blockquote>
Insp Mahoko said Moyo allegedly consumed Hove’s beer without his consent resulting in a misunderstanding. He added:

Hove and Chengeta started assaulting Moyo with clenched fists before Hove withdrew an okapi knife which he used to stab the now deceased on the thighs several times.
… Moyo later died from the injuries he sustained and his body was ferried to Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
</blockquote>
By the time Moyo passed away, Hove and Chengeta and already fled from the scene, leaving their victim in a pool of blood.

Man Fatally Stabbed For Drinking Beer

A 31-year-old woman from Mabelreign suburb, in Harare, was arrested after she was allegedly found in possession of 52 crocodile skins at her home.
Vimbai Dzingirai appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, over the weekend and was not asked to plead.
Dzingirai is employed by a Masvingo white man Wadley Duncan Andrew.
Prosecutors alleged that detectives from the CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna received information that Dzingirai was in possession of crocodile skins, without a permit.
The detectives went to Dzingirai’s house in Mabelreign and advised her of the reason for their visit.
The officers searched the house and found 52 crocodile skins in her kitchen.
Dzingirai failed to produce a permit, authorising her to possess the crocodile skins and said the permit was in Masvingo.
The detectives took the skins, pending the availing of the permit, but Dzingirai failed to produce the permit and became evasive.

Woman (31) Arrested Over 52 Crocodile Skins

A machete-wielding man from Lupane allegedly force-marched his lover and her two children to his homestead at night and raped her in the presence of one of her minor children.
Brighton Ndlovu (27) of Madonjwa Village in Chief Mabhikwa was arrested for rape following the attack which happened on 25 March this year.
Ndlovu had met the complainant, who is 25-years-old, on 18 March and proposed love to her and she agreed.
It is alleged that the two did not meet again until the day of the alleged rape.
Ndlovu appeared for initial remand before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku who remanded him in custody to Thursday, this week.
He was advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor Clive Gumbo told the court that Ndlovu, who was drunk, threatened to attack the complainant with a machete if she refused to go with him. Gumbo said:

On the 18th day of March, the accused proposed love to the complainant who accepted.
On the 25th of March at 10 PM, the accused who was drunk proceeded to the complainant’s place of residence.
He was armed with a machete.

The State further alleged that upon his arrival, Ndlovu knocked on the door while calling the complainant to open it for him.
The complainant opened the door and Ndlovu ordered her to wake her two children up and go with him to his homestead.
She complied in fear of being killed as the suspect was reportedly violent and armed.
Ndlovu, the complainant and her children passed by a neighbour’s place where they left one of the children before proceeding.
When they arrived at Ndlovu’s place of residence, he allegedly led the complainant to a kitchen hut where he ordered her to place her child on the floor and remove her clothes.
Ndlovu allegedly raped the woman once before ordering her to go back to her homestead.
She immediately informed her brother about the attack and a report was made to the police leading to Ndlovu’s arrest.

Drunk Machete-wielding Man Rapes Woman In Front Of Her Child

Ten (10) Zimbabwean nationals have been sentenced to two years in prison by a South African court for illegal mining activities in the Giyani area under Limpopo province.
The gang was arrested in South Africa by the Hawks on 14 May last year after the elite police unit received information about people who were en route from Phalaborwa to Giyani to sell gold.
The Hawks intercepted the vehicle near the Giyani shopping complex and upon searching the vehicle, the police found unwrought gold, pastel, scale, and mine detectors worth over R900 000 as well as R3800 cash.
The jailed are Mpathise Tshuma (29), Decent Ngwenya (22), Lamulani Sibanda (31), Skhumbuzo Mkandla (21), Ocean Mpofu (28), Prince Ndlovu (27), Brandon Nyoni (22), Clive Moyo (29), Tawanda Ndebele (33) and Philani Ndlovu (33).
Hawks’ spokesperson for Limpopo, Captain Matimba Maluleke said the Zimbabwean nationals were also found guilty of violating that country’s immigration laws. Said Maluleke:

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation would like to welcome the sentencing of ten (10) unlawful gold dealers by the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday (1 April 2022.
The accused persons who are all Zimbabwean nationals were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation members assisted by Giyani Police and Local Criminal Record Centre members on 14 May 2021.
… The accused appeared several times in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court and subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges.
The court sentenced them to two (2) years imprisonment for contravention of the Precious Metal Act of which one year is suspended and six months imprisonment for contravening the Immigration Act.
The sentences are to run concurrently.

10 Zimbabwean Border Jumpers Jailed For Illegal Mining In SA

A Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Councillor in Chipinge has been arrested for allegedly fondling a ZANU PF female member’s breast at a polling station.
Chrispen Rambu, who was elected councillor for Chipinge Town Council’s Ward Eight in the 26 March by-elections, is accused of fondling Jenipher Mpofu’s breast. Mpofu is a member of ZANU PF in Chipinge District.
Rambu (40) is facing indecent assault charges as defined in Section 67(1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Alfred Chinembiri early last week.
He was remanded out of custody to 5 April on $10 000 bail.
Prosecutor Isaac Tangwena told the court that the incident took place on 26 March at around 8 PM.
It is alleged that Mpofu was walking along the road which leads to Makocheredze Polling Station where she wanted to cast her vote when she met Rimbu. Said Tangwena:

The complainant met Rambu who was coming from the opposite direction. Rambu blocked her way and accused the complainant of disturbing some of his party members from voting. The complainant denied the allegations.
Ms Mpofu placed the book she was holding in her jacket and Rambu grabbed her by the collar. Rambu tried to get the book from Ms Mpofu, but she resisted.
Rambu fondled the complainant’s breasts during the scuffle. He later grabbed the book and shoved Ms Mpofu to the ground.

Mpofu allegedly reported the matter to a police officer who was manning the polling station and was referred to the charge office for assistance.

CCC Councillor Fondles Female ZANU PF Member's Breast

Another motorist was attacked and robbed of his vehicle and cash by men he had offered a lift from Harare on Saturday.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the motorist, who has not been named, was travelling to Marondera.
He offered a lift to Tafadzwa Goremusandu (36) and Olatious Mayemba (44) at Simon Muzenda bus terminus in Harare.
Along the way, the two suspects attacked the complainant and took control of the vehicle and diverted the route towards Ten Miles where they dumped the complainant.
However, the suspected hijackers were seized by members of the public after the vehicle broke down a short distance from where they had dumped their victim. Police said in a statement:

Police in Marondera arrested Tafadzwa Goremusandu (36) and Olatious Mayemba (44) for a robbery case where they robbed a complainant of US$180 cash and a Toyota Hiace baby Quantum vehicle after they were offered a lift to Marondera, at Simon Muzenda bus termini, Harare.
The suspects attacked the complainant and stabbed him thrice in the chest, right thigh and right limp.
One of the suspects took charge of the vehicle and diverted the route towards Ten Miles where they dumped the complainant by the roadside.
The suspects were apprehended by members of the public, a short distance from where they had dumped the complainant after the stolen vehicle broke down.

'Passengers' Rob Motorist Of A Toyota Hiace & US$180

Two men appeared in court on Thursday on allegations of stealing a vehicle from the Office of the President and Cabinet.
The suspects, Lameck Phiri and Last Chinamasa appeared before Harare magistrate, Shane Kubonera who remanded them in custody.
The complainant in the matter is Obey Mbofana, who is employed by the OPC.
Allegations are that on 17 March 2022, Mbofana parked a silver Toyota Quantum along Nelson Mandela Avenue in the Harare CBD.
Mbofana left the engine running, with car keys on the ignition, while he bargained on the price of a pair of shoes, which were being sold on the pavement.
The duo took advantage, jumped into the vehicle and took off at high speed.
Mbofana attempted to give chase but the suspects turned into Leopold Takawira Street and disappeared.
Detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad eventually caught up with the suspects following investigations.
On 29 March detectives questioned Crynonce Kasenga who was in possession of one of Mbofana’s stolen cellphones.
He told the detectives he bought the cellphone from Phiri who in turn implicated Chinamasa.
The police also recovered the stolen vehicle key attached to a Honda Fit key, and a battery and a starter that had been removed from the stolen Toyota Quantum.
The Toyota Quantum was found in Zinanga Village, Chief Seke in Ziko where Chinamasa’s father Simon stays.
Detectives identified the stolen vehicle by its Chassis number. However, the engine, gearbox, battery, starter and number plates had been removed.
The number plates had been stashed in a maize field in Sunningdale 2. The gearbox was also recovered.

Harare Duo Steal And Dismantle OPC Vehicle

Suspected ZANU PF activists who allegedly murdered a Citizens for Coalition for Change (CCC) Kwekwe activist in February are reportedly threatening witnesses against testifying.
Mboneni Ncube was stabbed twice with a spear at a CCC rally held at Mbizo shopping centre and died on admission to Kwekwe Central Hospital.
The deceased’s sister, Judith Ncube, said she was kidnapped on Thursday evening by suspected ZANU PF activists who threatened to kill her if she continued demanding answers into Mboneni’s murder.
Speaking to The Standard, Judith said she now feared for her life following the abduction incident. She said:

It was around 4 pm when the incident happened. They grabbed and bundled me into their vehicle.
They took me to a ZANU PF base in Kwekwe where they threatened to make me disappear if I kept on pressing for answers to the killing of my brother.
His killers are known and all I want is closure and justice.

The incident was reported to the police and the case number is CRO/04/22.
Also speaking to The Standard, Judith’s lawyer Darlington Marange of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum said:

She identified some of the culprits that were implicated in the murder, including some known ruling party bigwigs.
She has been saying that police are refusing to take the names of the perpetrators.
We are now considering visiting the police to iron this out because it falls under their duties to take the report as is and to investigate.
It appears there is some resistance but this is something that we have to iron out.
We are also considering getting a peace order against the people who have been harassing her.
She now lives in fear and we have to now take that route of a peace order to ensure her safety.
The issue of her safety is now of paramount importance outside other legal routes that we want to take.

Other people willing to testify against Ncube’s killers were being harassed constantly, Mbizo MP-elect Settlement Chikwinya claimed.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) arrested 16 ZANU PF youths for Ncube’s murder but later released 11 of them.
The late Ncube had recently remarried following the death of his first wife, with whom he had an eight-year-old daughter.

Murdered CCC Activist's Sister Abducted By Suspected ZANU PF Activists

A 47-old motorist was robbed of his vehicle by people he offered a lift at Whitehouse on his way to Norton on April 1.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), which is seized with the matter, said the three unknown assailants also stole valuables including a laptop. Said police in a statement:

On 01/04/22, ZRP Norton recorded a robbery case where a 47 year old man was robbed of a Toyota Corolla vehicle, HP core i7 laptop, a wallet with personal documents and US$23 cash, after he offered a lift to three unknown men who purported to be going to Norton, at Whitehouse bus stop, Harare. Along the way and at Cassabanana area the suspects attacked the complainant with an electric shocker and stole his valuables.

Motorist Robbed Of His Vehicle By People He Offered A Lift

A robber who has been on the police’s most-wanted list was shot and killed last Thursday in Glen View 1, Harare where he was hiding at his girlfriend’s house.
Decide Rice (52) had been operating from South Africa and committing a spate of armed robberies across borders.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that after committing a spate of robberies, he would flee to South Africa.
He said detectives recently received information that Rice was hiding at his girlfriend’s house in Glen View 1 and they reacted. Nyathi said:

The detectives cordoned off the house and after being confronted, he attacked them resulting in warning shots being fired.
He was shot on both legs and right upper arm.

Rice was pronounced dead on admission to a city hospital.
Police searched his girlfriend’s house and discovered detonators that are believed to have been used to blast safes.
According to the police, Rice:

a). had over 12 cases of armed robbery committed since 2017.
b). had escaped several shoot-outs with the police.
</blockquote>
Recently, police declared war on armed robbers following an increase in violent crimes countrywide.

The Security Services of Zimbabwe are concerned with reports of rampant smuggling at the country’s borders, coupled with accusations of corruption by some deployed members of the services at Beitbridge Border Post.
The Security Services therefore categorically state that any member who engages in corruption will be arrested without fear or favour as shown in a recent incident where seventeen (17) members of the Security Services were arrested and arraigned before the courts.
We warn bus operators, truck drivers, omalayitsha, clearing agents or any other person who initiates acts of corruption that they are equally liable and will be arrested.
Transporters and clearing agents are expected to lead by example and shun acts of corruption and enticing members of the Security Services through corrupt tendencies.
