Full Text: Zimta Gives Update On Civil Servants’ “Fruitless” Meeting With Govt, Way Forward

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) said civil servants’ talks with Government were fruitless.

This comes after Government offered a 10% salary increase which Zimta said was rejected by civil servants. Zimta said a strike was imminent. We publish the full feedback below:

RE: FEEDBACK ON THE NJNC MEETING OF 10 JANUARY 2019 1. INTRODUCTION

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 This circular gives an update on the above meeting and further serves as a consultative vehicle for membership views and guidance.

2. NJNC MEETING

2.1 The NJNC meeting held today, 10 January 2019, was a fruitless activity whose outcomes were detached from reality and absurdly futuristic.

2.2. After pleading poverty and bankruptcy. a common introductory trend on all engagement with government. Government tabled a ten percent (10%) salary rise for all public servants effective April 2019. The offer they said would approximately sum up to one hundred and sixty million (160 million) dollars.

2.3. The offer was rejected by workers as irrelevant and inadequate for purposes of addressing the presently incapacitated educators and public servants.

3. DECISION AND WAY FORWARD

3.1. Given the circumstances and hardline stance taken by the employer a full blown labour strife is unavoidable.

3.2. The variances between our demands and the employers’ offer is too wide and unlikely to be reconciled.

3.3. We call upon all educators to support the union in advancing the teachers’ cause. The struggle now enters another level. It now needs you and me, back to back, shoulder to shoulder.

3.4. There is no immediate solution in sight to ameliorate teacher incapacitation. Let us continue with the struggle.

3.5. In the meantime. unions are convening tomorrow to solidify their collective response.

3.6. Government called for adjournment of the NJNC meeting with another NJNC meeting set for next week.

4. CONCLUSION

As we enter this phase of negotiations let us keep our advice and guidance flowing so that the leadership takes every idea on board. Let us strengthen each other to carry on and fight for our rights for they can never be given on a silver platter.  Let us not allow fear to push and drive our minds but the experiences of our minds’ hearts must do.
