Guthry Chirodzero (40), who posed as a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative and twice got close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa while armed with a gun has been jailed for 16 years. He will serve an effective 12-and-a-half years following his sentencing by Harare magistrate Yeukai Chigodora on Tuesday.
Chirodzero sneaked into State House on December 4 during the swearing-in of Cabinet ministers after posing as a state security agent. He was seen near the podium where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was speaking. On December 6, Chirodzero again posed as state security and was seen controlling crowds at the renaming of King George (KGVI) Barracks to Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks in Harare.
Military Intelligence agents, suspicious of Chirodzero, confronted him and discovered he had a 38mm special Amando Rossi South African revolver with three live rounds. He was also found in possession of a fake driver’s licence.
