The Harare City Council has promised residents that within the next two weeks, the supply of water will have improved. This is part of the city’s efforts to fight the cholera outbreak which has killed at least 45 people so far. At the moment, the city council is supplying 520 megalitres per day against a demand of 800 megalitres. The local authorities have promised to improve the water supply by 75 megalitres a day.
Speaking to the Daily News, city of Harare spokesperson Michael Chideme said,
The increase in water supply is part of the on-going refurbishment of Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Works, that is not targeting any specific suburbs but the whole of Harare.
