High Court judge Justice Joseph Mafusire has ordered the Masvingo city council to supply water to its residents. This comes after residents have gone without water following the breakdown of pumps two weeks ago. The judge ordered the council to provide tanks instead, until the pumps are fixed, following an urgent chamber application filed by Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers’ Alliance (Murra). Some of the worst affected arrears include Runyararo West, KMP phases 1 and 2, Hillside, Mucheke F, Hillside Extension, Mucheke D, Clovelli and Rhodene.
Murra lawyer Martin Mureri told NewsDay,
By agreeing to a deed of settlement, the city fathers admitted that there were water shortages and they promised to correct the situation as instructed by the judge while awaiting to return water supply to normalcy. We happily accept the outcome of our application. The council has agreed to correct the situation and is running around availing provisional water supply to residents.
