Moyo given 24 hours to surrender himself for prosecution

Acting Prosecutor-General Advocate Ray Goba has said that Higher Education Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo, should surrender himself to the investigators within 24 hours and appear before a magistrate to answer to charges of of abusing nearly $500 000 belonging to Zimdef.

Moyo had applied to the Constitutional Court challenging the constitutionality of his arrest but however, Goba has said that the court should dismiss with costs the constitutional challenge. Moyo stands accused with his deputy Dr Godfrey Gandawa together with Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund finance director Nicholas Mapute. Goba said:

The application should be dismissed with the contempt it richly deserves with costs on the higher scale and order that the applicant surrenders to the investigating officer for purposes of appearance before a magistrate within 24 hours of the order of this Honourable Court in accordance with due process.

Goba denied ever directing the police to arrest Minister Moyo, but said he only directed the Police Commissioner-General to follow due process of the law and assist in the finalisation of investigations by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
