Soldier Sentenced To 7-Years For Setting Pregnant Lover On Fire

Harare magistrate Lucy Mungwari sentenced Trust Mugari (29) a member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) to 7-years in prison for setting his pregnant girlfriend on fire. The girlfriend, Pamela Dhliwayo, suffered a miscarriage as a direct result of the attack. Two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour leaving Mugari with an effective 5 years in prison.

Mugari was convicted despite claiming that Dhliwayo had burnt herself trying to commit suicide. However, the magistrate noted that Mugari had tried to eliminate Dhliwayo and the unborn baby in order to save his marriage.
