Tobva Tadii Paya Gang Fails To Raise Bail Money Money, Seeks Assistance

Three youthful artisan miners known as the “Tobva Tadii Paya” Gang are still languishing in Remand Prison despite being granted $100 bail each by High Court judge Justice Clement Phiri in February. The gang got the name after a video of them confessing to sexually assaulting women went viral. Prince Chirombo (18), Rombo Chirara (18) and Admire Chirongoma (18) have failed to raise the bail money and are appealing for funds. The fourth member of the gang Thabani Gazi (20) is yet to apply for bail.

Their lawyer Tawanda Takaendesa said

My clients were granted bail by the High Court sometime last month and I am informed they have been failing to raise funds. So, I am looking around on how I might help them. There are some legal aid organisations that are willing to help and around Thursday they will be out

The gang has denied all rape charges. Instead, the four alleged rapists have claimed that they made the confessions under duress after they were severely assaulted by members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).
