David Tekeshe was arrested on Tuesday by a soldier following an altercation at the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement offices. He was handed over to police officers at Mutare Central Police Station by junior soldiers who had arrested him and was charged with disorderly conduct.
Tekeshe had questioned why the soldier who was dressed in civilian clothes, had chosen to skip the queue and seek to be served ahead of others who were waiting in line. He is being represented by Memory Mandingwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights. Tekeshe was released on summons and ordered to appear at Mutare Magistrates Court on Wednesday 20 December 2017 at 8:AM.
