Police National Spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba told The Sunday Mail that a report was made against Zanu-PF Manicaland chairperson Mubuso Chinguno in Chisumbanje and the docket has been transferred to Chipinge for further investigations. Sunday Mail reports that 21 people filed official complaints with the police.
Zanu-PF Youth League has also set up its own team made up of Tungamirai Mutonhodza (national youth secretary for security), Blessed Ziome, Nqobile Ndlovu, Letwin Dombodzvuku and Vidah Garakashato, investigate the issue. The team expects to be done by November 15. Allegations are that Chinguno swindled US$160 000 in a residential land scam. Sources to The Sunday Mail that Chinguno used his political office to acquire 300 hectares of land meant for a Government housing programme for youths. He allegedly subdivided the land and told people to pay monthly installments to secure ownership of developed stands.
People made a police report after realising that no development was taking place on the land. Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association representative Mrs Prisca Matanga said the organisation wanted to get 400 stands and members had paid US$50 each per month to this end. When contacted for comment Chinguno said the allegations were political, and that he used some of the money to pay for surveying, grading of roads and pegging of stands.
