Onias Nkuzuwalela (36) an attendant at Engen Service Station in Bulawayo allegedly cloned a Steward Bank ATM card and defrauded Mr Vunganayi Muvungani, who is a director at Receptive Investments of nearly $10 000.
Nkuzuwalela pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove facing theft and fraud charges. He was remanded out of custody to October 27 pending trial. It is the States case that Muvungani gave Nkuzuwalela his Steward Bank ATM card so that he could swipe for fuel for clients who had cash and give the money to him.
Nkuzuwalela used the ATM card, but never gave Muvungani any money. The court heard that on July 27, Nkuzuwalela transferred $1 275 to a Mr Dumisani Mhlanga who is a manager at a local shop. After two weeks, he went to an electrical shop in Gweru where he purchased a home theatre system worth $1 490 using the director’s bank card. Two days later, Nkuzuwalela returned the card and told him there were insufficient funds in his account. On August 14, Muvungani gave Prince Chavuraya, who is Nkuzuwalela’s workmate an FBC Bank ATM card which Nkuzuwalela took and replicated before using it to buy groceries and other items valued at $6 094.
