Dorcas Moyo Readies 10th Album, “Mugeri Tsvatu”

Gospel songstress Dorcas Moyo is stepping into new creative territory with her upcoming 10th album, blending her signature message of hope with fresh sounds and some unexpected collaborations.

In a move to diversify her music and connect with a broader audience, Moyo has teamed up with secular artists, including the soulful Afro-jazz star Mbeu, known for his husky voice and work with the Mhodzi Tribe.

The forthcoming album, titled Mugeri Tsvatu, continues Moyo’s unique thematic journey, revisiting her long-standing fascination with hair — a motif she explored in previous projects like Bvudzi Rangu Ramera, Mhanza Haisekwi, and Mvere Dzabvepi.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the album’s title, Moyo pointed to 2 Samuel 10:4–5, a passage in which King Hanun of the Ammonites humiliates David’s messengers by shaving half their beards and cutting their garments, sending them back in disgrace.

The title track reflects on this act of betrayal and ungratefulness, drawing a powerful parallel with how, even today, kindness is often met with cruelty and humiliation. Said Moyo:

So Hanun seized David’s envoys, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the back, and sent them away. When David was told about this, he sent messengers to meet the men, for they were greatly humiliated.

There is no issue with the album’s title. You will notice that several of my past albums have hair-themed titles — we have deliberately continued this trajectory.

As has been our mission to raise the bar with each new release, our 2025 album will be no exception.

Before sharing it with the world, we must be convinced that it surpasses our previous works. People should prepare themselves for a blockbuster album.

This is something all Dorcas Moyo Music fans should eagerly anticipate, as I am certain your gospel diva will not disappoint.

Traditionally, our albums feature 10 tracks, and we are maintaining that format.

Some of the tracks set to feature on the forthcoming album include Kazevezeve, Adalitsika (in Chewa), and Jerusalem.

Moyo revealed that the project will feature approximately four collaborations, with Mbeu being one of the confirmed guest artists. She said:

We have around four collaborations on the album, and we are finalising which ones will make the cut. I can confirm that Mbeu will be among the featured artistes.

We are also in talks with other notable artistes, including Leonard Zhakata, Alick Macheso, Mathias Mhere and Africa Praise, among others.

Moyo shared that a stellar line-up of local talent is set to grace the stage at her album launch, including gospel favourites Mai Mukanganwa, Carol Chidzikwe, Blessing Shumba, the ever-outspoken Hosiah Chipanga, and rising star Cloris Machuwaire.

The much-anticipated launch is scheduled to take place on 6 September 2025 at the Manicaland Showgrounds.
